Hello, we will be flying in around 6:00 pm the night before our cruise on Carnival Valor. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel for 1 night pre cruise in San Juan. I tried to do a hotel search and it wont let me put in the pier so I have no idea what is closeby. I would greatly appreciate any help with this. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I would like something in an area where we could safely go walking around in the evening to grab some dinner.

Thanks everyone!@!!!!

El Convento - Middle of old town - close to pier - book a sea view (popular, go first). Cheese and wine in the evening on the terrace.:D

Try Googling "Hotels Old San Juan" and you should get a bunch of options. We stayed at the Hotel Casablanca. It was okay. There is no elevator but we were on the 2nd floor. We tried to get into El Convento but they wouldn't let us book for only one night. It was a bit expensive too. It looks lovely though. Anyway, Old San Juan is where you want to be so look around that area.

We did this cruise in February. There are several posts I made or commented on recently that should interest you. On one I have posted the taxi rate chart for getting to and from the airport and hotels to the Pier.

We stayed away from Old San Juan the night before. We tried the Hotel Miramar and it was wonderful. We also have a thread about that stay. There are 7 restaurants one block from the Hotel and a grocery store.

Cabs were plentiful the next day. Search Hotel Miramar, Taxi Rates, etc.

You have all afternoon once you get on board to go back out and tour OSJ. Might be a nice change of pace to stay in another section of town.

We are going on the valor in October and I had been looking into this as well. We ended up in the Condado area for the night before using Priceline since we were trying to save some money. The Sheraton Old San Juan is probably the closest to the Pier. Also the Caleta 64 apartments are right near El Convento (beautiful but pricey). I would stay in Condado then head to old San Juan that Sunday, drop your bags at the ship and explore since the ship doesn't leave until late evening. The Marriott Stelaris and La Concha seem to be very popular. Have fun!

I'd guess at least 1/3 of the threads on this board are about where to stay pre or post cruise. Lots of useful info already posted here. Just need to do some reading.

I've stayed in OSJ and Condado and nearer the airport and will be back in Condado next time. I like all the areas.

Just depends on how much you want to spend, what you want to do that evening, and all your other personal preferences.

You can also read tons of reviews on Trip Advisor. You can print maps with hotels, restaurants, walking tours, shopping, etc., etc, too.

There's something for everyone. Not a cheap place to visit, but I absolutely LOVE San Juan!

Sorry, missed your Dinner recommendation - MARMALADE

Great food and ambience

Book early as it is popular with Cruises and Locals.

Sheraton Old San Juan, I don't think there's anything closer than that! We stayed there pre-cruise years ago and we're staying there again in September. It's right across from the ship. Post cruise we're staying at the Marriott Resort & Stelaris Casino.

We stayed at SJ Suites a few weeks ago. Only a few blocks from the pier, in the heart of OSJ. Near a lot of stores, of any kind. Prices are very fair, and we found the place clean and fine for a single night. Its not the hilton caribe, but for a one night stay it made a lot of sense. We had 3 couples and they were all happy with the room. It will remind you of hotels in Paris or London. Not like mainstream hotels on the mainland. Elevator was working fine, ac was good, rooms were clean, nice bathrooms, security gates on every floor.

Take a cab and go to la casita blanca for dinner. It is worth the trip. Great local food.
