GORDONCHICK Posted April 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2007 We won't have that much time in Seattle (little afternoon and the evening), but will have to be at the station very early for the train to Vancouver BC. We don't need upscale, just clean and comfy for the overnight.
momthecruisedirector Posted April 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2007 The amtrak station is just at the south end of the downtown area. There isn't anything that I'd walk to but a short cab will take you to the Hilton, Sheraton, Red Lion, Roosevelt.....all in the heart of downtown. mollyeilis Posted April 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Since the station is right next to the Seahawks stadium, I checked their website to see if they had any ideas. Lo and behold... "The brand new Silver Cloud Hotel - Stadium located right across from Qwest Field is now OPEN!! The hotel features 211 tastefully decorated guestrooms with 42" High Definition Plasma TV 's, valet parking, complimentary shuttle to downtown, 3,300 sq.ft. of banquet and meeting facilities, and a rooftop pool and spa. For more information, please visit our website at Silver Cloud Hotel - Stadium or call 206-204-9800." OK, well, it's at the very FAR end away from the station, but that still might be the closest you can get to a hotel from the station. Just in case you didn't find the station's address, if that might help in finding close-by hotels, here it is: 303 South Jackson Street King St. Station Seattle, WA 98104
momthecruisedirector Posted April 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2007 You are right! We just saw that hotel last weekend when we were looking for Mario Batali's parents deli - it's within a block or so. I think the hotel is in an old office bldg. mollyeilis Posted April 11, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2007 You are welcome! I'm really excited to have found out about the Silver Cloud while looking it up for you, b/c we LOVE taking Amtrak, but hate having to take Metro up with the commuters or bum a far-too-early ride off of our friends (and then they have to pick us up at midnight when we get back, poor souls), OR pay the $75 for a cab home. We're thrilled that there's a closeby hotel now. :D
Jenbo57 Posted April 11, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Just beware...the Silver Cloud books very early during baseball season. Closest hotel to Safeco Field; lots of out of town baseball fans stay there!
mollyeilis Posted April 11, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2007 One would imagine during football season as well. :p
love2cruiseseattle Posted April 11, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Another nice hotel that is a short taxi ride is the Alexis Hotel, it can be on the $$$$ side.
Jenbo57 Posted April 13, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 13, 2007 One would imagine during football season as well. :p Good point...but not many cruise ships departing from Seattle after mid-September!
GORDONCHICK Posted April 13, 2007 Author #12 Share Posted April 13, 2007 I just checked Silver Cloud's website, and they want $300 for one night (tax incl)!!!!! That's insane since we basically want a place to sleep.
momthecruisedirector Posted April 13, 2007 #13 Share Posted April 13, 2007 I was wondering when you'd check out the price! Seattle is an expensive city but I would try something further downtown like Hilton, Roosevelt, Red Lion, Sheraton.... All still a quick taxi away. mollyeilis Posted April 14, 2007 #14 Share Posted April 14, 2007 Good point...but not many cruise ships departing from Seattle after mid-September! True. You can tell I'm not really a sports fan. :p
TravlGrl Posted April 17, 2007 #15 Share Posted April 17, 2007 You are right! We just saw that hotel last weekend when we were looking for Mario Batali's parents deli - it's within a block or so. I think the hotel is in an old office bldg. Where the Silver Cloud is now was once the location of a gas station with a mini/mart and deli inside. They tore all of that down and built the Silver Cloud from the ground up. It's brand new, nice, and clean. A few doors down is also a new sushi place that is REALLY good -- great service AND food (if you like sushi, of course!). September will be tough because you have BOTH baseball and football fans staying there being that the Silver Cloud is right in between Qwest Field and Safeco Field.
