driftychick Posted May 31, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Our party of 4 just returned from a SUPER 7 day Mexican Riviera Cruise on Legend of the Seas. This ship is VERY CLEAN and in Great shape for a ship of her age. Beds were a bit HARD, we asked for a foam pad and that did help quite a bit! Ship is actually in VERY GOOD shape for its age. Food was very good and yes the Ranch Steak is GONE! Menus are the same for lunch and breakfast in the Dining Room each day, always open seating for these 2 meals but Dinner remains early or late seating with menus that change each day. John Blair is the Cruise Director and he is the BEST! Our Cabin Stewards were great, room was always neat and clean, they do have more cabins now but work in groups of 2 or 3 and each one does a certain part of the cleaning. It worked well for us. Luggage was in the cabins a bit late, after 6:00 PM and we sailed at 5:00PM. First night no turn down service or chocolate on the pillow but it was no big deal for us. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. "The only GOOD reason to work is to PAY FOR THE NEXT CRUISE!" Then we sail on the Legend!
PhoenixCruiser Posted May 31, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Thanks and welcome back What type of cabin did you have? And, what did you do in the ports? ### Navigator of the Seas 6/26/04

driftychick Posted May 31, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Catagory "G" on Deck 3, Cabin # 3546. Had a LARGE Window, near the front of the ship, Port Side on the way to Mexico, great views. We just shopped and had a drink and lunch on our own in Cabo, been there many times. Did the City and Folkloric Show in Mazatlan to see the Flyers. And in Puerto Viarta we did the City and Tequila Ranch Tour ( free samples, make sure you try the flavored Tequila, Almond, Berry and Hazelnut, yummy and different. The Almond tastes like Amaretto!) bigwhistle Posted May 31, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2004 We will be on the Legend next week! I hope our trip is as good too, with 11 and 15 yr old girls (in their own cabin). We have booked canopy tour in PV, and are still pondering the other ports.
altalee Posted May 31, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2004 My main consern is do they have maps so you can avoid wandering around like a chicken with its head chopped off? There are lots of places on board I want to see but how will we ever find thenm all. I am SOOOOO excited to be at 27 days untill sailing. Was the booze smuggling an issue? and can you give hints about the entertainment and night life? I had been hoping to find others sailing the same week as me but no such luck, ever time i go to roll call my post is in never never land and the search NEVER works. justcruzin85374 Posted May 31, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Welcome back Driftychic! It sounds like the Legend was a winner...so glad to hear everything was great. I've still got my eye on a few of the sailings for the Legend, your review confirms a big YES for wanting to book one of them. Thanks for your review. *** Soveriegn 92 E. Caribbean Majesty 95 W. driftychick Posted May 31, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 31, 2004 OK, let's answer some of the questions: No, we did not hear any noise from the deck above, however, heard from some of the others more midships on deck 3 that they could hear the casino SOMETIMES, like when they hit a Jackpot and it rings for a long time. Yes, they do have some maps, typical cruiseship maps that show the port area only. I would suggest that you do some homework on line if possible before you cruise as some of the ports are far from the actual city centers. Nightlife, well, they have a great disco and DJ, Shawn is his name. Depends on the people on your sailing. Be aware that there are a lot of older folks on the cruise, yes they do have motorized carts and oxygen and yes they can be rude, however it was not enough to ruin the cruise. Also, as far as kids are concerned, we only had about 50 total on the ship, all ages. Adventure Ocean Program seemed to keep them all happy and busy. We were not bothered at dinner or the shows with kids however they were around the Solarium Pool with their parents at times. You will love the Canopy tour, I do here it involves a hike as well as the ZIP, it will be VERY HOT so dress accordingly and wear sunblock and take water. Hope this helps, I know you will enjoy your cruise on the Legend! Great ship and Great crew. "The only GOOD reason to work is to PAY FOR THE NEXT CRUISE!" Then we sail on the Legend! Jevey Posted May 31, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2004 What is the CD like please? Also; the entertainment. Our experience has been that RCCL outshines X in that area. Any info would be helpful Many thanks
dgund Posted May 31, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Were the seas really rough? I have heard it is much rougher than the caribbean.
driftychick Posted May 31, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Cruise Director is John Blair, he is great, Franco is the assistant with Katrina who is a hoot! Entertainment was ok, a trio in the Centrum, a Duo at night, the usual stage shows and we had Steve Smith comedian as well as 2 comedians that juggled while doing the routine. I was not real impressed but would say it was ok. "The only GOOD reason to work is to PAY FOR THE NEXT CRUISE!" Then we sail on the Legend! driftychick Posted May 31, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Not rough at all on the way down, hardley felt any movement. On the way back it was a little rough on the last night at sea, not bad but hard to walk up and out of the showroom without mving from side to side. That is in the front of the ship where you do feel the most movement. I did NOT notice people getting sick. "The only GOOD reason to work is to PAY FOR THE NEXT CRUISE!" Then we sail on the Legend! suziehmkr Posted May 31, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Thanks for the review driftychick. We are sailing on the 13th and can hardly wait. We are also on Deck 3, but inside and a little father up. But I don't care WHERE we are as long as we are on that ship!! So, hot & humid is all ports or just PV... good pool weather on your sea days? Also, did you stay in PV until 11pm... did you venture out at night? Seems like a late port and we were wondering about things to do at night. Oh! I am dying to know if Eggs Benedict is on the breakfast menu????? Thanks! 123CruiseFever Posted June 1, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Hi driftychick. My daughter and I are leaving on the 4th of July. Do you remember how long it takes to get out of the harbor in San Diego? We have an aft cabin for the first time and were hoping to sit on our balconey and watch the fireworks after dinner. We both are getting so excited and this will probably be the last cruise we take together for a while since she will be off to college in the fall. driftychick Posted June 1, 2004 Author #18 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Yes, Eggs Benedict is on the Breakfast menu EVERY DAY and it was delicious! Hot and humid in all three ports for our cruise. Yes, we did go out after dark in PV but just close to the ship, there is a nice flea market and a great Mexican Restaurant just as you get off the ship! "The only GOOD reason to work is to PAY FOR THE NEXT CRUISE!" Then we sail on the Serenade to HAWAII! ALOHA!
suziehmkr Posted June 1, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Oh Brother! Eggs Benedict everyday! Woo Hoo!! Thanks for answering all of the questions. As we get closer, more quesions come up with the anticipation. I was glad when they changed the port time in PV to 11pm. Did you eat dinner on the ship and then go back out, or did you eat at the little restaurant that you mention? Do you remember the name? We are doing the zip lines in the late morning and have PLENTY of time for other stuff after. Thanks again! cruisldy Posted June 1, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 1, 2004 123CruiseFever, Sorry to say that the fireworks displays here in San Diego don't usually start until at the earlierst 8PM and usually 9PM. The cruise ships depart at 5-6PM and you will be out of the bay and into the open ocean in less than 1 hour and probably more like a 1/2 hour from backing away from the pier. This I know because, I live here and I have cruised from here a lot of times. So unless your sailing is delayed, which isn't very likely, as they are most generally on time, you will miss any fireworks. In fact, I believe, having sailed at this time of the year, it won't be dark yet, by the time you reach the open ocean. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for you as I know you were so looking forward to watching from your aft balcony. Sheila Likes to cruise twice as much for half the price. driftychick Posted June 1, 2004 Author #21 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Actually we had Lunch and Dinner at the little restaurant! I do not remember the name, but as you walk across the street right in front of the boat before you get to the flea market it is the only place you can eat. Small with french type doors at the entry. The burritos are 3 small ones rolled like a soft taco, tacos are regular soft tacos and I had the fajitas, delicious! Yes, the other poster is correct about the fireworks in San Diego! It takes about 2 to 2 and a half hours to get to the OPEN OCEAN, the ship makes a full 360 degree turn leaving the pier and then sails leisurely out to sea. Not dark untill about 9 and we left on time at 5 PM, Muster Drill was at 4:15 before sailing and is mandatory. You will set your watches ahead 1 hour on Sunday night, you get the time back on the last night. Have fun on the ZIP lines, we did them in Costa Rica and it was a blast! driftychick Posted June 1, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted June 1, 2004 We did it as part of the ship's tours and it was great. A new bus, great air conditioning and a great Guide named Jose! I can hardly stand the wait!! OK -so they told you to change your watch when you boarded... so this puts you on Puerta Vallarta time, right?
