euro cruiser Posted March 21, 2015 #51 Share Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) We are taking an overnight trip from Rome to Florence and return. When looking at the train schedules, I see both Trenitalia and Italo trains. Can you comment on the difference or preferences? If you're seeing both in one place you are looking at a third party/reseller page, which is often dangerous. There's no way to know if the keep the information up to date so it's always better to go to the source. Trenitalia is the state run railroad. They run the majority of trains throughout the country. Italotreno is a new private competitor that runs trains on a few of the main routes. For the important lines, such as Rome - Florence, they both use new, fast trains. There's very little difference between the two, so find the one with the best price/time for what you want and go for it. Do note that many Italo trains depart from Tiburtina, not Termini (the main train station for Rome), which entails a little more effort to get there.
