Ncl and comps

Just got back from a cruise on NCL breakaway March 23. I had received a certificate from the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. I called yesterday for the heck of it to see what I might be entitled to for a future cruise. I was pleasantly surprised that I would be able to receive a free Oceanview cabin for any future cruise. This is even better than The certificate which was for an inside cabin so I don't need to wait for any more certificates from the land casinos for my next cruise.

I realize you are asking the other person, but we are starting over in the casino on board since we have not cruised since 2011. :(

I have never sailed on NCL before so started from he bottom. I actually called CAS again and now they tell me I am able to get a comp balcony. Booking breakaway again for next year.

Did they tell you what level card you are or how many points you earned?

That's great with the comped balcony, Geri! I was wondering this, too, if you don't mind sharing. We didn't check with CAS after our cruise last summer. We just waited for another TR voucher from AC. I am wondering at what point it makes sense to contact CAS directly.

I was on the Breakaway last week and called this past week. The quote I got was for a 4 day on the sun I'm calling tomorrow for pricing for 7 night on BA again for next year. Will let u know what they say. I had 1900 pts and my sister in law had 900 and my nice had 1200. Not sure if we were all linked we all have the same last name and were in the same cabin. We went on my voucher from the Taj. Crossing my fingers for a good price tomorrow.

Thanks for the info! That is obviously a good amount of play, but it is not as much as I thought you needed to get any good offers from CAS. I guess it will definitely pay to give them a call after our cruise this summer instead of just waiting for more vouchers from TR. I hope you get a good offer for BA! Let us know how it goes :)

We'll I called. This is what I got for the BA for April 26, 2015. For the penthouse aft balcony H6 suite for 4 of us would be $5,310 which is a $2,000 savings or I could get a balcony for two for $1,600 but my SIL and BIL would only get the 20% discount and pay $2,500 for both of them for a balcony. Not bad for me not so great for her

Thanks for sharing this info! That is a nice deal on the suite. It's only $1200 more for the suite, then, when you add up the balconies. I guess that is worth it for the suite perks and Haven access, if you take advantage of those things. It's good to know that it's worth calling CAS directly, though, rather than just waiting for the land casino vouchers!

As long time NCL CAS cruisers, we feel the CAS program is the best cruising program for gamblers, and that seems to be supported by comments from others on these boards.

Once you have cruised once with CAS, you can - and should - go directly to them for future bookings. Be aware, though, that in addition to your previous levels of play on the ships, CAS offers depend on the popularity of the ship, the itinerary, and the time of year.

If you get a decent NCL cruise offer from your casino, and you're a rated CAS player, take their offer and go to CAS and ask about the cost of an upgrade. Typically you'll just pay the rate card difference between the offered cabin and the cabin you want. This is what we always do, and we've been very happy with the results.

As for what to play on the ship, of course you're free to play whatever you enjoy. However, as in land casinos, your points on slot machines are calculated by a computer which knows exactly how much money you've put at risk. Your points on a table game are calculated by the pit boss, who may or may not be paying attention.

Finally, if you have more than 2,500 points by the end of the cruise, don't forget to go to the casino desk and have your points applied as a credit to your on-board account. You can see a substantial reduction in your final bill this way.

I have a question regarding applying your points to your cruise bill. When I was on the Sun, I got to 5,000 points, but I converted to cash. Is there more value for applying to the bill? I assumed that the conversion ratio was the same whether you took the cash back or applied to the bill. Did I make a mistake here by taking the cash? I mean, I did just gamble it right back into the machines, but no big winner to speak of, so technically, I left it as well. Thanks for the input!

What is the rate card difference?

I was on the same cruise as the OP and I also called CAS and they offered me an Oceanview cabin on the Breakaway in October, but the only OV cabins they have available are on deck 5, so I asked about upgrading to a balcony and they quoted $200 per person. Last year, I received 2 offers for free cruises from Foxwoods, but haven't seen anything yet this year but I'm hoping to see something soon. Do you think the upcharge will be lower than $200 if I have an offer from Foxwoods?

By "rate card" difference I meant the difference in the published prices of the cabin you were comped and the cabin you want.

Just called CAS again and asked about a quick getaway on the Pearl for October 17, 2014. Was told I qualified for a balcony cabin on this cruise. I upgraded to an SF penthouse suite aft cabin 9670 for a really great price. I'm so excited to experience suite life on NCL. I'm making my DH come so I wanted to spoil him a little bit.

If you are OK with disclosingit can you tel us generally what games you were playinga nd how much you played?

My favorite game is 4 card keno and video poker. Mostly played those but also played penny slots and a bit of blackjack. I was in the casino a lot. Not sure if total hours played comes into play. Like when I play at the taj in Atlantic city my host tells me how many hours I get in each visit and it's a ridiculous amount of time lol

I would love the answer to this also. I am going on 5/23 to pick up a foxwoods comp. They are normally for mid inside. I have now been on 2 ncl cruises and wondering if they check your play on the ships against the foxwoods comp.

Land based play has nothing to do with CAS. Your rooms on NCL that are comped or discounted through CAS are only based on your play on the ship and CAS can calculate that for you. Just as your land based comps/points are not calculated on your ship play.

I do understand that they're not connected. I was wondering, if I call with my comped certificate and give my name, would they tell me if I had a better deal sitting there through CAS from past playing on board, or do I have to ask them to check this also.

I was wondering about this also. The last time I received an offer from Foxwoods for a free cruise, I was scheduled to pick it up on a Saturday. We stayed at the hotel Friday and Saturday nights and on Friday night, I saw that some people were picking up their certificates and theirs was in a nice folder; the one I received was just a certificate and brochure. I assumed that theirs was a better offer based on the presentation, so either Foxwoods or NCL is determining what offer you get based on play or potential play.

1smudslide - when you book your cruises with NCL, do you give them your latitudes number? After my cruise in March, I called to see what the rate would be on the Breakaway in October and they offered me a comped oceanview cabin but I didn't book it. I called back a few days later and they offered me a comped balcony room on the same cruise, so I booked it that day.

I also received a new offer from Foxwoods, picking it up on May 24th. We usually get mid inside also. We'll probably save that one for next March.
