Newest ship?

I hereby declare that the newest passenger ship using the Panama Canal is the Queen Elizabeth... may I have the envelope please:D! OK, kidding aside it probably is one of the newest (built 2010) that has transited the Canal, but as CB pointed out that title could change every year depending on where the ships are deployed. In a practical sense a large number of the cruise ships that are regularly using the Canal have been built in the 2000-2008 time frame, so there is very little difference in the age of these ships. The reason is most of the cruise lines new builds have been in the post Panamax class which by design are too large to use the current locks. A Panamax ship is any ship constructed fairly close to the dimensions, 965'Lx106'W. Most of the new builds that have come into service in the last 10 years or so are the mega ships whose dimensions far exceed the Canal's size.

After the Canal expansion is complete, there will be a number of newer ships that will be able to use the Canal.
