azevedan Posted December 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) We are doing the 7-day Society Islands cruise on PG soon. My DH, who loves to run on the beach, asked me whether the beaches on the islands are suitable for running. Any thoughts? Where we go to the beach, in New England, there are miles and miles of beaches connected, so one can go for a good long run (though I've often said, if a run is 'good', you're not doing it right!) In general, any thoughts about running on the islands - whether on the beaches, or the roads? How about the motus? I'm assuming those are pretty small. But can you walk/jog around the whole thing? Thanks! Edited December 20, 2014 by azevedan
Emdee Posted December 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2014 Motu Mahana very small you can walk around it. BB Motu you will have to run up and down as again quite small as part of it is cordoned off. If you want a larger beach in BB you can go to Matira Beach The best beach for running or jogging is Temae beach in Moorea. It's the lagoons and not the beaches that are special. azevedan Posted December 20, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Thank you for the information! Can I trouble you for a little more? We will be at the Intercontinental for a few days on Moorea....Is Temea Beach nearby? thanks! Edited December 20, 2014 by azevedan
Emdee Posted December 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2014 Thank you for the information! Can I trouble you for a little more?We will be at the Intercontinental for a few days on Moorea....Is Temea Beach nearby? thanks! No it's on the other side. The intercontinental has a small beach I don't think suitable for running. I believe transfers to their Motu are included. I don't think there was sand to run on there either...haven't been to the IC for many years my favourite is the Sofitel which is on Temae beach. If you have a car it's an easy drive to temae The turnoff is by the airport. Ask your hotel for directions. Maybe you can arrange to have lunch at the Sofitel and then use their beach. Enjoy! Wendy The Wanderer Posted January 4, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Also remember that it's pretty hot and humid. Most of the locals do their serious canoeing, for instance, early in the morning, or just before sunset, when it's cooler.
