Pompeii Tour Operators for half day tour.

Are you only interested in a tour? It's quite easy to get to Pompei and join a small group (approximately 10 people) tour with a licensed guide on site, if you are up for DIY.

Thanks for your reply. We are interested in transportation and a tour of the site. Just want a half day/Pompeii only for now since we want to spend time in Naples as well.

To be honest, there's not a lot of discussion of half day "set" tours on this board. The majority of folks doing private tours want a full day with some combination of the Amalfi Cost + Pompeii or Herculaneum. Quite a few recommendations for that sort of tour on here.

For Pompeii only, many people choose to get there on their own (train, bus, taxi) and either get one of the group tours offered by guides at the gate, as mentioned above, or go on their own with a guidebook or audioguide.

Maybe you would have better luck looking on Tripadvisor.

Another option would be to engage a taxi at the port. Naples has a robust fixed fare system and the set price for a round trip from Naples to Pompei with a two hour stop at the ruins is 90 Euro. The downsides of this option are (1) you cannot count on the driver speaking much English at all and (2) you are limited to just two hours at the ruins.

However, if you want to spend the rest of the day in Naples two hours may be sufficient for you. The tour groups that start at the Porta Marina entrance generally run just under two hours, which would be perfect for you.

At any rate, you can use the fixed fare for perspective as you research private tour operators for a similar trip. They will certainly want more money but their driver will speak English, so you can use this base fee as a way of deciding how much more you are willing to pay for an English speaking driver. The cost of a tour guide at Pompei will be quoted separately by the agencies as these are two different professions and two different fees in Italy.
