Rare FlyerTalker Posted August 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Given that you don't say when your scheduled arrival (dock) time is, nor any other information, it becomes REALLY difficult to give any kind of answer other than:

cherylandtk Posted August 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Normally, yes. But do take note that there will be two ships in port and its a tiny facility. They do not allow self-disembarkation in that situation, and if there is a delay in releasing the ship, you will want to have back-up plans. JJPNYC Posted August 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Also at SAN, what airline & terminal are you flying from? I've seen in the commuter terminal that you be from curb to the gate in 5 minutes at just about any hour. Go to terminals 1 & 2 and it can be upwards of an hour depending on how many flights are leaving at the same time and which airline you are flying. SAN is very close to the pier, so travel time is minimal. But you do have to worry about disembarkation as you can have the one family who doesn't show up to pay their room tab after 100 pagings which can delay things. wasup254 Posted August 27, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted August 27, 2007 We are not flying commuter...san diego to fort lauderdale We are a legit first off passengers and we are not ones to have 2 pages of charges on a 5 night cruise and we are pro active as to the need to get going The issue for us will be the clearance off the ship by port authorities Marlene
JJPNYC Posted August 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Not questioning you & settling your charges. It's that one family/group that decides not to pay it and then then ship's purser holding everyone on board until that last group settles their account. Unfornuately it's something that's out of your control. As for the authorities, how long they take is a toss-up. When I disembarked in San Diego from a Mexican Riviera cruise the disembarkment went smoothly and we were on the dock by 10:30ish (we were the last group off as we were staying in San Diego for a few more days). But once again, it's best to plan for worst-case scenarios. For that flight, is there a back-up flight that's avaialble in-case for some odd reason you miss the 11:45 flight? Bruton Branch Posted August 28, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2007 It is doable, but some suggestions: Be in the first group off of the ship if possible, know what your bags look like-put a piece of brite survey tape on them to make them standout, after getting bags walk straight out to the taxi line and load up go to the airport, less than 15 minutes away with stop lights,go inside to the airline counter, beating the crowd from the ship, get checked in early, get processed by TSA, and get a seat(few) at your gate before the crowd arrives. Have a great trip, you do have a back up plan and can you check in via the computer your last day of the cruise? Bruton Branch:)
