I just remember that from when I was kid, looking down and seeing all these little crescents - just another side benefit of being in the right place a the right time.
Vic - Did you try any tests shots to see if you're getting flares or other issues?

No, for me it's more about a cool sunset picture than a telescopic sun picture. I have "scouted" a couple of locations to set up, one over the mountains and one with a field of horses in the forefront.

I wasn't thinking straight! I was doing some test shots of the sun with the unfiltered point n shoots and got massive flares, well no duh Sherlock! Then realized I would actually be taking pics at full eclipse, essentially at sunset levels, so it should turn out better.
I probably think this all through way to much, but it seems if I don't, then inevitably I arrive at the crucial moment and have forgotten something. Eh, as long as I see with it my own eyes, it'll still be cool. Good luck everybody.

The mountains may be a better spot with the sun fairly high in the sky. Good idea to scout locations today at the same time as the eclipse tomorrow.

I was wondering about that.
The official sunset here is about 7:15 but it will be earlier because of the mountains. So the sun will actually be fairly low in the sky while in eclipse.Vic

In Seattle the sun does not set until around 9 pm and the eclipse is at 6:43 pm when the sun is quite high. Looks like a very cloudy day here!

In Arizona we don't do daylight savings - so our time is Pacific time in the summer.
Hope the sky clears up for you! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's photos. Vic

Change in plans. DD is flying into Sky Harbor tonight from Germany. Think I'm going to set up at the airport parking garage instead, get the downtown area instead.

![]() I guess I needed a filter, but it is interesting nonetheless. I'll see what I can do with photo software tomorrow. Vic

The best of the bunch, so far...
![]() My try at a composite. No way to get the foreground and the sun both properly exposed in the same shot, so this is a rough try at bringing it all together. ![]() Maximum eclipse at our location

Shootr. That second shot is absolutely fantastic and then some. WOW!!! Great job. I like the airport as a fore ground. That is a wall hanger.

Awesome Shootr! Great job. I guess I now know the answer, you must have a solar filter. I guess there was a lot of dust in our area yesterday too.
Well done. Vic

I broke the rules on filters. I wound up stacking a 2, 4, and 8 ND filter onto polarizer and still shot at f/32 at 1/4000 for the sun shots. Quick peeks to keep alignment before burning out my corneas and I was all set.
Today I'm heading back out to the desert where I did my practice run last week. Somehow, I think I dropped my timer out there, because 3 hours before the start I tore the house and truck apart and couldn't find it anywhere. So no time lapse. Thanks for all the comments. For an astronomy geek like me, this was a holy grail type event. When I saw the plane pic I darn near had kittens-I was shooting like crazy and switching all kinds of settings with fingers crossed.
