Going on Venice Adriatic 12 day "Serenade of the Seas" open to any tips,suggestions

My wife and I are leaving on Sept 4, it will be our first cruise over 4-5 days ever.Would love any tips or advice on upgrades,excursions or just in general.

You have left it very late to start planning. Get a copy of Rick Steves' Mediterranean Cruise Ports and start reading. EM

Lots of info on the Ports section of this CC site. Also, don't worry, many of these ports are very do-able on your own. Rick Steeves' guide and a map will be all you need. You'll have a great time!
