Just debarked the QM2 yesterday following 12 days to Panama and the Caribbean, already counting the days till our return on 7/3/06.

Looking forward to meeting everyone, looks like a fun bunch of folks will be aboard for this Independence Weekend Cruise. Six of us in our group.

Carol,

Looks like we'll finally have a chance to meet aboard the old QM2. Enjoyed chatting with you from the QM2 via the boards, now I will looking forward to meeting you onboard.

Jonathan,

I'm so pleased to be on the same sailing as you. It seems I've been on the sold out and packed sailings and meet up with few cc'ers while you take the relaxed trip a week before or after me and actually meet many of whom you've been communicating with. After reading the posts I won't be going anywhere near trivia--too intimidating; I'll stick to horse racing (which they did not feature on our Yuletide sailing).

My husband and I are also booked on this cruise. This will be his first cruise and my third time on QM2.

Cruiserking - we'll be sure to see you in the pub for some trivia action! Sounds like you all had a great CC group on the Panama sailing.

Look forward to meeting up with you all in July.

Carol,

Did you have the winning horse at some point along the way in your QM2 travels?

We were quite looking forward to the horse racing evening, after our photo finish on the March 9 trip. However, the great race never materialized during this most recent voyage.

Atticus,

We will definitely see you at Pub Trivia. I can still feel the jubilation of our Team 147 (a tribute to our colorful Britannia tablemates) as we seized victory in the final trivia bout. It seemed as if every trivia fan came out of the woodwork for this brain teasing showdown. In fact over the last leg of our journey there were as many of three trivia contests a day, I'm still resting my little grey cells.

See you in July for the great quest of the yellow prize voucher.

Well We Booked Our Flight So That Makes It Seem Closer To Time To Cruise . We Booked To Fly Into Newark Airport Same Day As The Cruise . It's A Non-stop Flight So At Least We Should Not Lost The Luggage .

It's A Long Time To Wait Until July But It Helps To Read The Posts . We Are Going On A Cruise Feb 4th On Voyager Of The Seas To The Eastern Caribbean So That Will Help Make The Time Go By Faster . That Shlould Get Us Warmed Up For The Queen Mary2.

This Is Our First Year Of Retirement So We Are Anxious To Do Things . My Parents Are Cruising With Us And Are Also Very Excited About Going .

Jonathan,

I had the winning horse in my dreams on our March/05 trip. I was bidding against a lovely older woman for our NYC horse and it bothered me to keep pushing, so I caved and guess what---she bought the winning horse. It was great fun; she dressed him up beautifully and I kept running into her with that darn horse! On our Yuletide sailing I waited and watched for the event to appear (with a wad of cash this time) to no avail---so I warn you, I am saving my scheckels (?spell) watch out!!

If you're referring to the mechanical horse races, I was told by someone on the 12/8 cruise that Carnival will no longer allow them. Evidently they were a traditional part of the Ascot Balls, and are sorely missed by many!

If there any any past passengers of this cruise maybe they would weigh in here.....

Any idea what night they will have as formal night? Our only sea day is the day before we disembark and that night is usually casual dress for dinner on the QM2.

How do they work viewing the fireworks in Boston Harbor? I assume that we wll have to be back on the ship by a certain time so that we sail out to see them?

Arrgghh, the wait is killing me! I would gladly settle for being on board right now even with all the mutinous talk going on.

As best I can remember, it was the last night of the cruise 2 years ago. Odd, but that it was, as we ate elsewhere than Britannia, although dressed formally as did all other passengers I saw that evening. It was a shorter cruise and we had fireworks in Newport, RI where we did not either dock (I do not think you can) or tender in. We arrived there in the late afternoon and anchored out.It was such a fun cruise we booked again this year and will enjoy the longer stay on the lovely Queen. We must all get together someplace and enjoy meeting .

I was also on the maiden July 4th QM2 Cruise. Haven't heard any specifics regarding dress, but, I believe it will be as follows:

July 3, Casual

July 4, Red, White and Blue Ball

July 5, Formal (Captain's Cocktail Party)

July 6, Casual or semi-formal

July 7, Casual

I've also been wondering where the ship will be situated for fireworks viewing. I have a feeling we'll cruise out to some vantage point in the harbor.

Ok. It's Our First Time On The Queen . So , What's The Red , White And Blue Ball ? Is That A Party For The 4th ? Is That A Formal Night Too ? Special Dress ? Really Appreciate The Info . Too Late To Find These Things Out After We Are On The Ship .

Thanks

Don't let him kid you folks!

I have watched this team in action, and I think their grey cells barely lifted their resting heads! This team has more knowledge in their pinkies, without even taking time to think, than I have in my whole body! I don't know how they have learned so much about so many totally diverse topics!

I stand truly awed!

Don't stay away, Atticus, Go and give them a run for their little yellow tickets! It's all about having fun! I kept wishing they'd have a booby prize! I would have had handsful of those little yellow vouchers!

Karie,

who knows talent when she sees it!

Thanks for the props Carrie. The key to pub triva is an international team. Find some Canadians and Brits they know their geography. We had so much fun with all our triva patners and won a cool QM2 photo album. Zach is the best triva host.

I don't understand why Carnival would discontinue the horse racing event during the Ascot Ball. It can't be because of the gambling aspect of it what with the casino and daily bouts of bingo, doesn't make sense.

Does anyone have further information on this. Half the fun was buying your horse and carting him or her around with you throughout the ship and decorating it for the big event.

That's why I had to save him during the immigration line near-mutiny! Poor kid was being engulfed ina a sea of inpatient humanity!

We did have to overrule our Canadian team-mate on the Triva question on the country where the most people speak French outside of France! <LOL>! She tried Algeria, Switzerland, VietNam, Polynesia, and a few other very small countries!

Can't wait! It was so much fun, win or lose!

The staff person told me that many of the staff and previous passsengers are quite upset, since this was a fun tradition. I too said that it couldn't be the gambling on the horses since there's a casino onboard. Hopefully, someone on board will ask this little question for us. The "Ascot" part of the "Ascot Ball" does lose the heart of the event, eh?

We also enjoyed the horse race held the night of the Ascot Ball. I am proud to say that our horse (The Galloping Wine-O) came in first!

I do hope they bring it back - I even enjoyed it when it was done on a smaller scale out by the pool on Deck 7.

But in the event it doesn't return...I'll just have to settle on pub trivia. Hope they have lots of questions on lost generation writers, MASH and Little House on the Prairie; as useless info on those three subjects seems to fill all the space that is saved for trivial facts.;) I'll have to rely on my husband for the real trivia questions.

Cruiserking,

Thanks For The Information . Us Cruisers That Have Not Sailed On The Queen Mary Will Now Be Able To Prepare For The Red,White And Blue Ball And Look Forward To It . Sounds Like Fun To Me .

Can Anyone Tell Me If They Have Taken The Super Shuttle From The Newark Airport To The Cruise Terminal Or If There Is An Easier Way To Get There ? There Are Four Of Us With A Lot Of Luggage So We Will Not Be Able To Take A Cab . We Are Staying 8 Extra Days After The Cruise So We Need Extra Luggage . Just Wondering About The Best Way To Get To The Ship .

Thanks For Any Help .
