Just back from the Star Princess

Welcome Back!

I have a couple of questions

How was the food? Could you relate your dining experience on board? Did you do traditional or PC dining, etc.

Did they play the Love Boat song at any time on your cruise?

Thanks so much

Happy Cruising

Chris

How about food? Overall food was good. We had PC dinning and found that in some occasions - we have slow service - 2 hours+. We had to wait no more than 10 minutes. And, we found that dinning in the Horizon Court buffet style was very good - better veriety than in the dinning room. So we did both, depends on what we did that day. As of Love Boat song they played once.
Feel free to ask more questions.

Hello Isabella. Glad you had a wonderful time on the Star Princess. We're going on the Star in March 2005. How was the entertainment? Did they have a big sailaway party on the pool deck with the cruise director's crew dancing and getting the crowd involved? We were on the Grand and they had a great sailaway party like that..I was wondering if that was only on the Grand or on all the grand class ships???

Hi Isabella!

Hi Gang!

We went to the first dancing show called "Dance" and were really impressed with it. Most other shows we didn't go to. We would go to dinner after our nap. Then after dinner the shows were kind of late, and we couldn't stay awake that late. It had been a long day in port. I'm sure they were great though, we just can't personally vouch for them.

The commedian Billy Vader was SO funny. We went to both of his shows. It was our impression that most of the shows were aimed at passengers a bit older than we were. But of course, most of the passengers were a bit older than us. Not that they weren't nice, but there weren't many 20 and 30 year olds. A youth counselor said that there were 35 children under 17 on board. That's why she was able to be an "escort" on the shore tour with us, and she was at the end of the tour, where I always was. She was very friendly. She said that the tours were harder than playing with kids all day.

There was an illusionist Jody Reynolds. He juggled and entertained. His show had a slow start. Many people left, but the last act was very impressive. He gave a woman a piggy back ride, and then while she was on his back ... got onto a unicycle and rode around the stage. It WAS very impressive. But that was the most exciting thing in his show.

There was one piano guy "Chris Hamilton". He was very good, but we were so exhausted his soothing piano music was putting us to sleep. I felt so bad, so we snuck out and went to sleep ... immediately!

I enjoyed the food, but I have to agree with Isabella, in the PC dining room some of the staff was a little slow. We had a great team Bradley and Frederick, both from South Africa. They were great, fast, friendly and a great wait staff team!

I enjoyed the crab legs (and I don't care for crab, but it was either that or lamb chops, which I don't care for either). But one lady said she didn't like them. Naren Inhaled his crab legs. He said they were fantastic. The lobster was good too. They gave you two tails on one plate and the waiters de-shelled them for the passengers.

There seemed to be a souffle every night. The Gelatto was GREAT!

If you had PC dining, and found a wait team you liked I'd say try to stick with them if possible. Meaning, make a set time reservation to dine with them every night. We did this with Bradley and Frederick. However one night even though we confirmed our dining schedule that night TWICE with the dine line (x3463), our table was given away. We weren't happy with that! What's the use of making a reservation?

We weren't impressed with the Horizon court for lunch, so we had pizza, burgers and hot dogs. They were all pretty good. The pizza slices I had to have him cut it in half. They were HUGE! There was the standard pepperoni and the standard cheese everyday, but there was a specialty every day. All were pretty good.

There was a big sail away party, but we went to the bow of the ship to watch us sail away from that perspective. We did see some pics in the photo gallery of the "sail away", so I'm guessing it was a party of that nature.

I never heard the Love Boat song. I guess I was asleep.

Any more questions? Yes, the VERY LONG review is in the works!

Happy Sails,
Mrs. Tulpule

Hi gang,
My humble opinion on entertaiment:
Billy Vader - DO NOT miss both shows.
Production shows are all very good.
The pianist in the Champaine Bar was good, so is the band in the Explorer lounge. Theme nights are not so defined like they are during Carribean cruises.
