clingandclatter Posted July 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2006 anyone heard about this? I'm sure it would've hit the news if it is true. So I read this one guy's blog fairly regularly and he was going on Voyager leaving from Barcelona and he posted this entry in it, although I don't know if he's being facetitious (sp?) given the state of cruise accidents and the hype or not and this is for real. from the blog (again, not from any news site): "The cruise (Royal Carribean) announced to us a missing 22 year old girl the other night. She went missing sometime between 12:30 am when she was last seen and 7:00 am, when her sister reported her gone. We got held up in Naples for an extra 3.5 hours while police/FBI/etc searched all rooms/areas on the boat, reviewed video tapes, interviewed people, etc. That put us into Malta an hour late (but we left an hour later). Haven't heard any updates since then, except for some lunchmates saying the room in question was across the hall from them, was a large suite (big group w/ 4 big rooms), and there was a lot of partying going on that night. Who knows. I guess she went overboard, for one reason or another. Sad." Anyone?

WECoyote Posted July 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2006 The FBI has jurisdiction in Naples now???? No, but they do have a liaison office that would get involved with the permission of local authorities due to corporate headquaters being in the US. WECoyote Posted July 28, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2006 A fairly thorough search of the internet shows the last person reported overboard in Europe was on May 26, 2006. "A 52-year old woman traveling with her former husband went missing while the ship was between Sicily and Naples. She went to get a cup of tea at about 1AM and never returned to the cabin -- a search proved unsuccessful, however her body washed ashore in Calabia in southwest Italy on May 27." This was off the Island Escape (formerly the RCI ship Viking Serenade)

'A number of search boats and aircraft have been used by the authorities in the past couple of days', Michael Sheehan, director of corporate communications Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd told Seatrade Insider. There have been no sightings reported. clingandclatter Posted July 28, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Definitely surprised that it hadn't been picked up by the media which is why I was curious. Nothing in the blog made it seem like he was being sarcastic and he did start out with the statement that he was posting it only so if it did break in the US, no one would worry that it was his wife that was missing. That part made me think maybe it was a joke as they are on their honeymoon and stuff and we all know about what happened with those other honeymooners. But all the comments about it seemed serious. If the FBI was involved, it would lead me to believe that it probably involved an American citizen. So again, where's the news media outcry?! Schplinky Posted July 28, 2006 #14 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Probably wise to take a wait and see approach to this one. She may have left intentionally or may be in the crew area. I wonder if the cruise is still in progress?

Liv4cruzin Posted July 29, 2006 #21 Share Posted July 29, 2006 As I'm sure you all were, I was so shocked that this could have happened yet again. And again on RCI. But the real shock came when we learned on the local evening news that the young woman was from my hometown of Naples, FL. As PML stated, she is from a prominent local family. According to friends that were intereviewed for the news cast, she is (what we would consider) normal to the point that no one would suspect that she would choose to disappear. And the irony of her disappearing while the ship was sailing to Naples, Italy. I pray that this story does not have a tragic ending.
