  1. Hey all, a couple quick questions. I am a long-time Disney cruiser, looking to try RC for the first time. A big attraction for me is the pool deck, so if someone has time I'd love to get some feedback on it. One of the things I really enjoy about the Disney pool decks are the running movies, so when I am sunning and tired of reading I can watch a movie and veg. I see that AotS has a poolside screen as well- can someone tell me how often it shows movies, what kind, is the audio audible, etc? Also, is there enough poolside seating or will I have to stalk a seat for an hour waiting for someone to get up? Finally just curious what the overall pooldeck vibe is? Crazy drunks? Kids running around? Clean? Cluttered? etc.

    Thanks!

Bob is right about the movies. They tend to show them mainly in the afternoon and night. We were on a few weeks ago and during the day, there was a constant feed of funny and cool videos being shown but no sound. It was entertaining to watch.

There weren't really that many crazy drunks around the pool that I remember. There aren't too many kids on the cruises we take on Adventure because usually it's in January right after they all go back to school. There are always seats available unless like Bob said, it is a sunny sea day. The chairs are a premium!

Here is a cool pic that my husband took one night as we were leaving port. The movie screen is on the side that you can't see.

  2. anyone out there know when the muster drill is going to be...I am assuming it would be the same for all AOS sailings that depart at 8pm...if first seating for dinner is at 6pm. is it safe to say it will happen prior to that ?????...some of our group of 21 is planning to get on board around 1130am...have lunch and then get off to roam around Old San Juan for a couple of hrs...we don't eat dinner til the 830 group so they want to know when they have to be back on board...told them at least 1 hr. prior to sailing...but then I remembered the muster drill...thanks in advance...

Muster drill is at 5:45. Are you aware that Adventure of the Seas docks at the Pan American Pier? It is a 15 minute drive to Old San Juan from the ship. It is not the same pier where Carnival docks, which is right by Old San Juan.

Also, you may want to confirm that you CAN get off the ship after you've gotten on. I haven't heard of people doing this but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

  3. I appreciate your help more than you know! You are a huge help[emoji106] We love pics lol. I will spend more on pics that drinking and souvenirs together. It's hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time for sure. I keep waiting for a photo deal to pop up on my cruise planner. Do you remember seeing any photo deals prior to sailing?

If you can't see the photo, let me know and I'll type it out for ya!

Hoping you can see this picture I took in my cruise compass about buying the whole CD! And it says they do have facial recognition so maybe I was wrong? We didn't even go down there so things could have changed!

  5. Do you know if the Adventure has facial recognition software? I am wondering if I will have to find our photos on the dreaded wall lol

No unfortunately you will have to search the dreaded wall!! We decided to skip photos all together this time. It was nice to not have to worry about them but I know some people use this opportunity get family photos. In the past, we bought them and then they sit in the envelope for years. Haha. Enjoy your cruise!!

  6. Thanks for such a great review. I was wondering what time was the earliest time people got off?

If you self disembark and take your own luggage, you can get off earlier. I believe it was between 7 and 8. We always stay on as late as possible because our flights always are later. We cling to the ship as long as possible like a toddler being taken away from their parent [emoji1]

  7. Following along! We just visited the ABC islands for the first time a couple of weeks ago and fell in love! We were on the Adventure of the Seas which is a sister ship to Navigator so I can't wait to see the pics of the ship too. Excited to hear about your observations of the islands and also Royal Caribbean. We love RC but have also sailed on Celebrity and were very impressed with them as well! We are now loyal to Royal though because we are almost Diamond on C&A and want to build up those points!

  8. Hi Laura,

Just got off yesterday, and thought the Adventure is a great ship. For some reason your pictures are not showing up on either of my 2 computers. ???

    Love the Adventure

Hmm that's weird. Others said they could see them so I'm not sure why they aren't working for you :(

  9. To finish up....

We had a wonderful cruise and were very happy with both the ship itself and the service. I thought the Windjammer staff was especially attentive this time where I didn't remember that in the past.

I do agree that some things need updating and replaced on the ship. The couch in our room was pretty dirty and the carpet could use a cleaning or replaced. We're crossing our fingers that it will all be done for our Jan 2018 cruise! If not, we always have our Jan 2019 cruise :D

One last picture which is the saddest pic of the cruise! The waiters singing goodbye to us!

Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you about the ship or the islands!

  10. Mickey thanks so much for the information. We will probably take your advice and head to Carambola!

YES!! Go to Carambola!! Shipwreck is still really run down. We walked down there about a month ago from Carambola and there was only 1 group of 3 girls there. I felt bad for them. We got dropped off there once too and it's a pretty horrible place. You will love Carambola! Here are a few pics!

  11. Thank you for answering everyone's posts. DH isnt a sun worshipper like I am, was shade avaiable at Eagle beach?

where did you find the parasailing guys?

The shade was mostly from our umbrella we rented. There isn't much shade in the way of palm trees. There are actually several places to talk to them about parasailing all over Eagle Beach. They were everywhere!

  12. Since we were in port until 11pm, we wanted to eat dinner on the island. It is something that we had never done before. There was a couple on board who had recently been to a restaurant that they recommended to us called Perla Del Mar.

This was in an area called Waterfront Arches. When you cross the floating bridge coming from the ship, it will be on the right. Just passed The Plaza Hotel. This is the COOLEST area!!! I feel like I say that a lot about places in Curacao but it's true! There are 4 or 5 restaurants all on the water right next to each other.

    Inside of the restaurant

Our food was SO good. I got shrimp and my husband got beef and shrimp skewers. It was all delicious. On our way back to the ship, the bridge was all lit up.

On the way back to the ship, we stopped in the Rif Fort area where they had a live band. It is surrounded with bars, restaurants and shops. We decided to get some ice cream and watch the band for a bit. I think I could stay on this island, in this area, for a week or 10!

We've never seen the ship like this at night because we had never been in port so late. She's a beauty!

  13. We made it to Mambo Beach and were pleasantly surprised! I read that chairs were $30 and the beach fee was $3/person. When we arrived, chairs were only $7 for 2 and $7 for the beach fee. That also included a free water or soda!

When we got dropped off by the bus, we didn't stop for chairs at the first beach. We walked to the left a little ways. I think it might all be the same but I'm not 100% sure. We sat in front of the water park/blow up toys (which hardly anyone used). There were a lot of people snorkeling out by the rocks.

We ate hot wings and fries at Aloha Beach Bar and it was really good! It was only $21 for 2 orders of wings and fries to share. Not bad! We could have stayed allllllll day but we left at 3:30 to head to our next adventure! When you want to leave, just go back to the place you were dropped off and look for a van with the BUS license plate. There will be tons of taxis but look for the BUS.

  14. We saved the best for last!!! 20170202_094844_zps44kxoui7.jpg

We'd never been here before so just like the other ABC islands, we didn't know what to expect. I had read a few things about taking the city bus to beaches here but I didn't write that much down about it. When we saw the price of taxis, we decided to start walking in attempt to find the city bus! We wanted to get to Mambo Beach and taxis were showing to be $40. I'm not sure if that's round trip or one way but either way, it's too much!!

    20170202_100455_zps5rbuwsgu.jpg

I'm going to do my best to explain the area of where we got the city bus, but it was quite confusing. When you get off the ship, walk passed the taxi pick up area and along the boardwalk. It runs along the water. Go through Rif Fort and towards the floating bridge (Queen Emma Bridge). --> Seen below

    20170202_100719_zpsu02pmwam.jpg

This is such a cool bridge!! When boats are coming into the bay, they literally move the bridge over. So you could get stuck on it! But it's a great experience! After you cross the floating bridge, you are going to want to veer left. From here, we had to ask about 5 people along the way for the bus stop. Basically you want to go left until you can't anymore (due to water) and then you need to turn right. Walk past the floating market and past "New Market" and you will be there. From the ship, it was about 25-30 min walk. BUT it was only $2/person to get to Mambo! WAYYYY better than $40! They were small buses/vans and they don't wait to fill up before they leave. Look at the license plate for the first 3 letters of BUS - not TX (taxi). Most likely you will be riding with locals but it was a cool experience! Let me know if you need any clarification!!

  15. Did you snorkel at Eagle beach? if so how was it. I'm trying to find a good beach for my wife and decent snorkeling for me. Enjoying your review, we head out in a few weeks.

    Thanks Dave

We did not snorkel there and didn't see many people snorkeling around us. But there were fish swimming around us while we were standing in the water so you might have good luck. It's a beautiful place! Hope you find a good place to go!
