  1. In that case, with catering involved, totally understandable that there is a 24 hour cancellation requirement. Only you can decide if the risk is worth it to you or not. Tricky one!
  2. No worries. i have also made similar errors. I don't think many folks can say they "never" have a senior moment.😁
  3. Referencing the above post, note that Amalfi also has ferry connections.😀
  4. Nitemare, these were different questions asked by two different members after pch "piggybacked" the original question by jack300s, who doesn't appear to have returned to the thread with a clarification..
  5. I mistakenly "quoted" Nitemare instead of tashaaa, so apologies to both of you.
  6. Some of this railway line runs alongside part of the Seward Highway, one of the most scenic driving routes in N. America. cruisefanatic 71, should you want to consider renting a car and driving, if only as far as Anchorage r/t to Portage Glacier, there have been a number of past threads describing what can be seen along the route and you could search for them and read about it.
  7. ibiza is beaches and clubbing Should you want a beach day followed by a day at sea, of the two this should be your choice. Split is VERY different, and has become a favourite with cruise pax, and for those not interested in a beach day, this would be the preferred port of call.
  8. This is a copy/paste of a post I made yesterday in response to a similar type of question. It refers to ISP. Keep a close eye on the water even when onboard or if walking along the shoreline and you might well be lucky. We and four others took a private whale watching boat tour with a local vendor who is no longer in business. ISP is probably even better than Juneau for whale watching and we saw many more than we had expected to. On the walk along the shoreline when returning to the dock/tender area, we saw two quite close to shore Once onboard, other pax told us they had seen several from the ship.
  9. Mea culpa A senior moment! I accidentally copied the quote from your copy of the quote instead of the original one by macdanes.☹️
  10. Will you actually need to take a tour? Some places along that coast can be reached using ferries from Positano. Examples would include Amalfi, Capri, Sorrento and Naples. The roads can be extremely busy causing delays, also public buses, and using ferries would avoid that.
  11. Ships can miss a port for many different reasons, and they can be very last minute, sometimes on the day itself. And you say you need a 24 hour cancellation notification for any refund, which makes me think you have booked through Viator, which is not a tour operator, only a middleman which books you on to tours run by local operators, so you do not yet know which operator you are booked with. That aside, for peace of mind, would you consider not touring at all from Alesund? It is a favourite port of call by many as ships dock in the centre of town, there are a number of sights/attractions and it is very easy to DIY. Should you want to consider doing your own thing in Alesund, this thread has much info and some images to help you decide. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2826391-alesund-norway/#comment-62526938
  12. for each port, go to the correct geographical forum ,( although CC isn't always accurate with these). Stay on the main general page, not an individual thread. There will be any empty SEARCH box directly under your user name. In turn, enter the name of each port, or town or city or whatever, and hit the little magnifying glass. Within a few seconds, all past threads which include that word should appear ready for you to choose which to read.
  13. You could do an easy search for past threads for all your ports using the CC SEARCH tool and read some for info and ideas. To get you started, I think this is a good one for Akureyri.Ignore the first few posts on it, as it quickly morphs into recommenations for tours and tour operators. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=akureyri&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=2705 And have you joined any Roll Call for your ship and sail date? Your RC is where you will find fellow pax on your sailing and with whom you can exchange info and ideas for port suggestions. And some of those fellow passengers may have arranged private tours and are looking for others like yourself to join them. You mentioned Silhouette. Now you only need to search for any RC which matches your sail date. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/506-celebrity-silhouette-roll-calls/ Note that you must be logged in to access any RCs, even to read.
  14. A few random thoughts. To help you decide, look at the deck plans for whichever ship you will be sailing, in particular the locations of balcony cabins. Remember that those in the best locations are likely to have been chosen by pax who had a choice rather than a guarantee, but that may not be so. Look at the ones which to you would be in the least preferred locations and decide if one of these would be acceptable to you or not. As for midnight sun, on the itineraries we sailed in those regions we deliberately chose inside cabins to ensure a good sleep as we prefer darkness. For any accommodation which is not an inside, a few clothes pins are good to pack as any gaps in curtains can be pinned together to decrease light coming in. It also depends if you are "indoor" or "outdoor" viewing folks. If you think you will spend more time outdoor viewing, or viewing from an observation lounge or similar, you may find that a balcony cabin offers views limited to one side only, and that you would rather opt for forward viewing where there is also the bonus of some side viewing too, or from an indoor or outdoor spot on one side of the ship, but close to any"walk through" area where you could easily move from one side to the other. Not so easy from a balcony where you would be restricted to only your own view..
  15. Use the link on post #2 to access past threads re Cagliari ideas. Also the link on post #4 for DIYing there.😀
  16. The "pinned thread" referred to in post #2 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2756652-hotels-in-rome/page/37/#comment-66088923
  17. And one assumes with only a partial view. Will confess I have zero interest in F1. To me it sounds like angry bees for the entire race duration.
  18. Tthought I was only pointing out the obvious, not being stereotypical. And BTW, in Scotland, WHISKY is drunk, in Ireland, WHISKEY is drunk. Tastes good irrespective of the spelling!😁
  19. Hank, not everyone has pockets as deep as your own appear to be, and a quality meal (even excluding any alcohol) in MC/Monaco is likely to come at high (very high )cost. I cannot even begin to imagine what the cost of a "terrific" meal might be. Even a fairly standard or mediocre meal will likely cost a lot too, so hardly the experience anyone would be hoping for. I think that a quality picnic-type meal in a pretty garden and/ or with a fabulous view would be a good compromise in this luxury location.
  20. If your plan includes going inside the casino, do check before you go as there may be 1)a dress code 2) an entrance fee 3) a minimum bet. 4) anything else you need to be aware of And have your passports with you to show at entry. This because Monegasques are themselves barred from entering the casino. (The ruling family didn't want them to lose their money) and your passports will be checked to ensure you do not have Monegasque nationality.
  21. you could always useWiFi ashore, either for free (often at the port terminal) or for the price of a beer or a coffee or some other small purchase in a bar or cafe. And do ask crew where to find free or inexpensive WiFi ashore as they use it too and ALWAYS know where to find it.😀
  22. Ships usually dock next to the train station. Walk through the (quite small) train station, cross the bridge and you are there. A very pleasant seaside town, actually a suburb of Rostock, also worth a visit. Lots of previous threads as W is often combined with Rostock or elsewhere. Choose which to read from these; https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=warnemunde&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=116
  23. rogerb keeps a close eye on this "pinned" thread at the top of the Spain Ports forum. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2697012-palma-de-mallorca-diy-new/page/23/#comment-66772295 You could always first search that very long thread in case your question has already been asked and answered.
  24. I think this is the cliff side walking route we followed on our "peaceful" third visit. I think it is called something like Roche or le Rocher. We left it for a short time at the Cathedral to visit the interior then rejoined it and walked further to the Port of Fontvieille where we finished. This route gives nice views and isn't an overly demanding hike, more of a pleasant walk with some nice views including .a view of the Monaco Prison, perched above with views out to sea (not usually mentioned on Tourist Info websites!!!) Small world indeed. Although more famous for being the birthplace of chef Auguste Escoffier, when living closer to Valbonne, friends kept two horses at the Equestrian Centre at Villeneuve-Loubet.
  25. hilarious. Well of course that is the norm!! Cruise pax also arrive by sea, but instead of sharing their luxury vessel with a handful of close friends or family, they share with between 1000 and 3000 of their closest friends.😀 and instead of getting into a waiting Ferrari, they go in search of the closest bus stop.😀
