  1. Thank you for a wonderful review I'm now even more excited for our trip ... :)

We are doing the Southbound cruise in Sept 2018 as part of a 6 week tour of Canada for our 25th Wedding Anniversary & I am so excited already I will be completely hyper by next August :)

We are staying in Vancouver for a couple of days prior to flying up to Alaska to pick up the ship, has anyone done this through Princess EZ fly (not available yet) or have you organised your own flights the itinerary princess sent me for the cruise had us out of Seattle ??

Once again thank you so much for your review and pics, I love CC :)

  2. Wow ! Would love an upsell offer but we live in the UK and they don't seem to come as far as us :(

We are booked on an Alaska Southbound for Sept 2018 in an OV obstructed (carefully chosen cabin for minimum obstruction) but would love a balcony :) live in hope the upsell fairy will fly further :)

    Happy sailing

  3. We had a similar situation on Crown Princess and to be honest it was a shambles, we had booked second sitting Traditional dining and were put in the Anytime dining MDR, every evening we had to walk past the queue of passengers waiting to be seated to get to the restaurant which was embarrassing and very uncomfortable! we seemed to constantly be apologising and explaining why were by passing the queue and were challenged several times by the crew for 'queue jumping' ! despite complaining to the restaurant manager this continued and we ended up eating most of our meals in the buffet !

We cancelled our next cruise on Crown......

  4. It's only referring to dinner, which does finish at 9pm.

In the 'Horizon' on board paper that I have from Aurora last Christmas it says that late night snacks are available between 10:30pm and 2am. It opens for again for continental breakfast at 6:30am.

Watch this space I will post a comment after our cruise ! :) have also discovered 'Late night snacks' may be available in the Glass House !?

  5. I personally welcome the change. We hardly ever use room service as we find the current choice to be unappealing. The new menu looks significantly better. I would prefer to see a full cooked breakfast option (even if it was chargeable) but a warm breakfast panini is at least something (and it's free). Yes, the main meals are all chargeable, but most of the choices were not available before. I see it as a little bit like Select Dining restaurants, where I would rather pay a modest fee for something far better than getting something mediocre for nothing. But I completely understand the frustration of those who regularly enjoy the (albeit limited) selection that is currently available free of charge and now feel a bit cheated. I have been following blogs elsewhere of people who have done the latest World cruises on Aurora and Arcadia and they seemed to use room service for balcony dining almost every day, so that will now add up to a tidy sum of additional spend. For us, we will probably now go from never using it to using it very occasionally if we fancy something on our balcony. The cream tea at £3 a head is very tempting! As luck would have it, we are going on the very first cruise that will have the new Room Service menu (Aurora to the Baltic, leaving a week today), so if we use the service I shall be sure to provide feedback in my cruise review.

    Good morning :)

We are also on the Aurora Baltic trip next Saturday, we haven't been on Aurora in a long while and rarely use room service but we were planning on using it for munchies after the ballet in St Petersburg, out of interest do you know if there is a late night buffet on Aurora ? can't seem to find anywhere that tells me.

Hope the weather is as glorious next Saturday as it is today ! :)

    Happy packing!

  6. I too have cruised with P&O for 30 years and am sailing on Aurora next week, my husband & I have booked the ballet in St Petersburg and had planned to eat something from room service on our late return to the ship as we will miss our evening meal. Whilst I appreciate the item cost is not outrageous on the new menu, I do feel it is yet another sad reflection of how times have changed with regard to cruising, where now 'everything' has a price tag.

Incidentally P&O need to get a wiggle on and alter their glossy FAQ info including video which is still giving incorrect info re room service !

I haven't been on Aurora for quite some time, preferring Oriana and Ventura so can anyone tell me is there still a late night buffet on Aurora for the post ballet munchies ! ?

    Happy sailing everyone :)

  7. The P&O fairy must have been looking out for me because although my cruise isn't until the 23rd June they've allocated my cabin already P236 just what I wanted PF grade :) I am so relieved and can now look forward to my trip rather than dreading it :)

Thank you for all your comments

    Happy sailing

  8. Canberra forever, I think that is because when you book a Saver fare, you cannot choose a cabin to be upgraded from. When you book a Saver, you are booking a grade where they guarantee that they will allocate you a cabin of that grade or higher. That is not technically classified as an upgrade even though a lot of folk call it that if they are allocated a grade higher than that which they have booked. If you want a cabin in the lowest grade and to stay in the lowest grade because of its location, the only way to secure this, I have found, is to book really early with a Select booking and slap a 'No Upgrade' on it.

    I so wish I had :(

  9. Well I have learned something new, I was looking for the "do not upgrade" and could not find it and now I know why.

I had selected a grade I was happy with, which was half way up the choices - I would have been as well taking the very bottom one and paying less.

Hey ho we are not too picky about location anyway and as we seldom if ever get an upgrade chances are it will be in the area we selected anyway.

I do however think that P&O should make this clearer to those booking. It is very clear that you don't get perks and that you don't get to select a cabin number there is however nothing to indicate that they can change the grade level you picked. Why would anyone select anything other than the very cheapest one otherwise (by cabin type)

I totally agree what is the point ! and I've scoured the terms and conditions and cannot find anything that says you cannot opt out of upgrades

When I booked there were several grades listed all at the same price as the PF I booked but I specifically chose PF for the location of that range of cabins, guess I'm just going to have to keep my fingers crossed for the next few weeks. Normally I wouldn't care where we were but I'm travelling with my cousin and daughter & they have their opinions too !!.... feel like it could be a long few weeks ..... never again

  10. I have recently booked, through a TA, a Ventura cruise on an Early Saver fare (despite 20 + cruises with P&O this is my first Early saver booking)

I chose an Inside PF grade as for me this was the best potential cabin location for our trip but now find 2 days later that I am not allowed to say 'do not upgrade'

Have others experienced this issue and why bother to offer a grade choice if you may not get it anyway?

By the way the lady I spoke to in P&O to ask why this was, was quite rude ! really disappointing.....

  11. Good morning,

Has anyone ever used a P&O shuttle bus from Gdynia to Gdansk and if so what was the cost ?

The P&O shuttle bus info page indicates there is one but the alternative seems to be a 'do it yourself' tour at £26 each or 'google' suggests the local train.

Any info or suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks

  12. I am taking my mother to celebrate her 90th birthday...a few months early but November is cold.

She has mobility issues and we’re bringing her wheel chair/walker for added convenience and safety.

Anyone with similar issues and, or just cruising with us, I would like to hear from you.

Hi we're on with you :) can't wait :) have a look at the roll call, there are lots of us chatting, see you soon

  13. Please keep posting we are sailing on the 8th April on Sapphire and the more information the better :)

    Have a wonderful cruise :)

    Hi

Hope you're having a wonderful time, I'd be really interested to know if there are any shuttle buses available at the ports on your cruise ?

    Happy sailing :)

  14. Did anyone do the 22 day CruiseTour - Beijing, Terra Cotta Warriors, etc.?

Doing a tour on the 1st April but booked through a company called Iglu Cruise which also does Beijing and the Terra cotta warriors before the cruise, will post how that went afterwards but would also be interested to hear from anyone who's already done it.

  15. Having a wonderful cruise, however, does anyone else think it is absurd to close the Calypso Pool, the only indoor pool, for cleaning, on a sea day, when everyone is onboard and it is pissing down with rain?

Yep that sounds typical !! I was on P&O last year and they decided to close the roof on the pool and varnish the woodwork also on a rainy day, you couldn't breathe for the varnish fumes !! they stick to their schedule no matter what !

  16. Have just had a strange conversation with RCI  I phoned to ask to pay the balance of my cruise (sailing November ) the man I spoke to was very bemused and kept asking if I was sure I wanted to pay and did I really want to pay the full amount ??

My payment is due on the 11th Sept and I'm only paying today because I'm away on the 11th but he really sounded as though he didn't want my money !! Have I caused a stir ?, will I win a prize for asking to pay 3 days early ? Is that so unusual ?

    Watch this space :)

  17. We had Freedom dining on Oriana last year and it worked like a dream, very efficient service, we couldn't fault it :)

The previous year we had been on Crown Princess and booked second sitting, that was a disaster as freedom and traditional shared a dining room and we had to walk past a queue (they were not happy !!) every night and were challenged (every night !!) at the door by an over zealous assistant head waiter.Dinner was stressful and not pleasurable :( - we used the buffet a lot !

Off on Island Princess soon watch this space .... ;)

  18. Some Elite benefits can be shared with people staying in the same cabin - but not with friends or family in other cabins. For example, you can check in together at the Elite boarding area.

Others cannot. For example, if she wants to go to the wine tasting with you, she will have to pay.

Others are hit and miss. I understand that you would like to share some things but you do not want to abuse the system. I recommend you ask the Captain's Circle representative onboard what benefits you can share and what you can't. He or she should be happy to talk with you and answer your questions, and those answers will be definitive for that specific ship and cruise. Any answer you receive here - and definitely any answer you receive from Princess in advance - may not apply to your specific ship and cruise.

Thank you for that advice I will go and check onboard I would be mortified if she was challenged !

  19. I'm travelling on Island in September with my cousin, I am Elite level but this is her first cruise with Princess can she come with me to the Elite/Plat nightly event? Usually I'm with my 'elite' hubby so the issue has never arisen, don't want to cause an issue !!
