  1. Hey folks!

I used to be a frequent cruiser' date=' and then ... life happened. ;) I'm now preparing to introduce my new hubby to the joys of cruising, which is a BIG deal since he has a bit of an ocean phobia. Just to be safe, we're sticking to a 4-day Bahamas in case he really doesn't enjoy.

But here's the thing: I haven't sailed with RCI since 2007. :o I know that a LOT has changed since then. I know room service is no longer complimentary and tips are now automatic, but I suspect that's just the tip of the iceberg. Any other info I should know?

We're sailing on the Mariner, which I've been on twice before but I know she just had a massive refurbishment.

Also, I'm Diamond C&A but new hubby has never cruised before. Does anybody know if he will be automatically be assigned my status? Or can we request it? It would be a bummer to have to leave him at the lounge door. ;)

    Thanks in advance![/font']

    Welcome back,

  2. Ok Bob, you are the pro, on this subject, it seems. I'm a planner and need some help on the Deluxe drink pkg for D+ members. I believe I read on a thread that once onboard if we purchased the pkg it's 30 % off for D+ members. Is there a $$ amount for this? Help and thank you:)

  3. Our April 2019 cruise on Mariner is listing it as 20% off "onboard" price. That is really not a sale that is the regular price you can always buy it at on the cruise planner. It is likely to go down at some point in the future. Everything in our cruise planner, except spa services, has at some point gone down in price quite substantially for our Oct 28th cruise on Liberty. We got the Deluxe drink package for me for $42 a day and Refreshment package for DW for $18 a day. Our April cruise shows Deluxe at $60 and Refreshment at $26. I'm holding out, I'm expecting that to come down at some point. Hang tough, I'm sure it will come down

We can get one Deluxe drink package for hubby and I don't have to get one as well? I thought it says we both have to purchase the Deluxe pkg??:o

  4. With your vast experience as D+, you should already know you can get evening drinks at any bar that is open!!!!

If you are asking about your free drinks, I would think you would know that you need to go to the Diamond lounge. You could find that info once you get on the ship, and read your welcome letter explaining this. Works every time for me. As far as the 3 drinks, you will find the info in your welcome letter also. It will tell you where you can't go.....example MDR, raising tide bar etc....

The only exemption to the Diamond lounge is on the Empress and the Spectrum. Now, 99.5% of the people reading this will never go on the Spectrum. (I'm one of the 0.5% that will be visiting Shanghai next year on the ship).

No, :rolleyes:I didn't know with my vast experience,as I haven't been on this ship and venue seems to have changed since we were last on RCCL. Have wandered over to Celebrity and tried MSC.

  5. We were on Silhouette last Thanksgiving. We loved it.

We will be on Silhouette again in 22 days and a wake up. I bet we love it again. :)

Just disembarking this morning. Just need to say all was great. We loved the way Capt Peppas on his farewell announcement thanked us and also praised his crew. Have never heard that. Love this ship and plan to return. Room steward was Clifton and gotta say, all was spotless. Was seated for table for 2, without a wait,at various times at anytime dining. Just our experience 👍

  6. I had a unique experience on a recent cruise with my sister. We went to the Viking Crown Lounge as we were leaving port in St. Thomas at sunset. We got to see everything as we left and sailed away, right at sunset, as the lights then began to come on back across the island. That experience was amazingly beautiful enough, but then we had an unexpected bonus. The captian came on the PA to tell us all that we were about to pause and do a 360 degree turn in place to set our compasses. We sailed far enough from port to get an amazing view, but were still close to shore with the lights twinkling on land. We stopped in place and the ship turned to the four points of the compass and paused at each of the four points for a couple of minutes. We got a 360 view with pauses and it was awesome. Then, we cranked up and sailed onward. The captain said they just have to do this function rarely. I wish I knew how to know what dates a cruise ship was carrying this function!!!! I would book for that experience again. It seems like a "rare in a lifetime" unexpected event on a large cruise ship. :) Anyone else ever experience such? Stories? I know they try to spin in the Alaska bays when visiting glaciers - I have experienced that, but never a complete circle with pauses like the St. Thomas night. In the glacier bays my memory was they went in, spun 180, and then went out.

We're doing it right now on the Silhouette 2/14/2018. , leaving St Thomas with Capt Peppas. At first we thought there is something wrong, as engines seemed to stop and start, we'd drift a bit, then restart. The Captain came over the PA system to explain what he was doing. Funny guy said " no I'm not crazy." Neat experience 👍🏻

  7. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! We set sail on the Silhouette when you return on the 18th and like others I was getting nervous reading so many negative comments. I too am a glass half full person but I was really starting to worry. This is our first cruise without our children, our first Celebrity Cruise and our first 7 night cruise. Thank you, you've relieved my fears that I just wasted a ton of money. Have a great time.

Fear not, she’s beautiful and so are the crew.
