Well, I did read that sales are not going well in the Med on Edge.

One TA site that I saw this morning were also adding $200 OBC.

I was later sent an e mail from Princess, they are also doing a 4 night, 2 port cruise from Southampton on Crown. The price is half that of Apex, but no perks, so you are paying for the included perks on Apex. I was comparing balcony catageory.

Ooooh, what date is the Princess cruise - we are looking for a short one to do with friends but the X one is rather expensive - I know it's got the perks but still.....

Just double checked on the Celebrity site and unfortunately I am not wrong!!  This is of course for 2 people, but so was our fare on the Silhouette.

Wowzers!! I suppose they are banking on it being popular with it being it's maiden season. I really want to sail on Edge or Apex so I'm sure thousands of others do too.....trying to persuade my husband to book one of those first cruises....😀

Had a look, but I think it is a bit risky to book this far in advance.

However, whilst looking I was shocked at the prices of the first few cruises on The Apex.  A one week Norwegian Fjords early May is £14,498 for a Celebrity Suite.  We are doing a one week Norwegian Fjords cruise on the Silhouette on 1st Sept in a Celebrity Suite for £5900.  I can't believe that many UK cruisers would pay that much to sail on the Apex, even if she is a brand new ship.  Can't compare the other cabin categories.  Hopefully there will be a few last minute bargains next year!

Hmmmm, I've just looked on our TA's website and they are quoting £6,899 for a CS for an 7 night Norwegian Fjords cruise on 4th May next year...…£13,673 for an Edge Villa. Might you have been looking at the wrong category?

It is totally irrelevant what other lines do. Mentioning other lines may confuse those who are not familiar with Celebrity policies.

Don't worry, it won't confuse me. Instructions are very easy to follow once on board and I find it interesting to know what other lines do. I don't find it at all irrelevant. 🙂

They tend to release from the front. You will be directed to a seat when you enter your Muster Station. A few people balk, but the vast majority follow directions. As said one purpose of a Muster drill is to train crew who are part of the drill. They're evaluated on their performance.

And, actually, one muster might be conducted differently from another. Oh well, we shall see. It's not a problem really is it? 😂

Clearly you have heard that you are required to do the drill. I would point out that you do have the opportunity to improve your experience. When we have done back to back, we pay close attention to the area of our Muster station that goes out of deck last (if you have to do that) so that you are the closest to the rail and not pressed against the back wall, stand outside the least amount of time and get released first. If you do not go outside, again you can determine which area of the station is closest to the exit and gets out ahead of the crowd.  I would note that sometimes these coveted seats are obtained by coming early or sometimes by coming late. Armed with this information we time our arrival to the second (or third) Muster drill to get these prime locations. Something many of you have never experienced, is that on cruises longer than 14 days (something we usually do on Regent) you actually have to have a refresher drill during the cruise. This usually happens in late morning of a sea day. So just remember, the cruise line has to do it, the drill is as much a benefit to the crew (we absolutely want them to know their jobs) and the less resistance they get from the passengers, the faster we all get back to vacation.

Regardless of X not holding the musters outside, the advice is nonetheless excellent. We always arrive early and have to wait for ages while the stragglers are rounded up, I shall be paying eagle-eyed attention during the first one for the best location to be "released" first! Thank you. 🙂

  7. Thank you all for your responses and for clarifying the Celebrity situation. As I said, we did not have to on P&O (although there was a time limit, the length of which I cannot recall) which is owned by the same company as Princess so makes sense that Esprit had the same experience as us.

I will brace myself for a double dose of "James Bond" muster! 😩

  8. We are doing a B2B cruise in September, a 7 night followed by a 14 night, will we have to attend the muster for the second cruise?

We have done a B2B before but it was on P&O and was a 3 nighter followed by a 11 night. We did not have to attend for the second leg on that occasion. It was something to do with the length of the cruises, but I can't remember the details. Can anyone shed any light? 🙂

  9. We are thinking of booking an aft Sky Suite on Celebrity Apex. I would like to be on deck 12, however, I know there is a public deck above and I wondered if anyone who has been in one of these aft suites or cabins can tell me if they are noisy as a result of the deck above?

Similarly with the deck 7 cabins which I think are above Eden, are these noisy?

    Any info gratefully received.....

  10. Hello everyone, my husband and I are sailing to Bergen, Alesund, Flam and Stavanger in September with Celebrity. When we go on cruises I like to get off the ship early in the morning and go for a run. I am particularly looking forward to doing this in Norway as I am hoping the scenery will be great. My question to anyone who may have been before is, is this going to be possible in all the ports I mentioned? I am not a great distance runner, 2 to 4 miles will be plenty for me...…

Thank you in advance for any help. 😊

  11. Thank you. Great info. If it were me looking for the early morning coffee I would definitely ask the butler, however, my husband doesn't like to put the butler out, he thinks he will be busy looking after other people and doesn't want to add to his burden. Overly considerate in my opinion, but what can you do. He is happy to seek out his own coffee, I just wanted to be able to direct him where he can get it while I continue to snooze away! 😁

Buffet is 24 hours.  Cafe al Bacio hours vary.

Great. Is the coffee (is it called Secondo al Bacio?) bar in the buffet staffed all night too or would it be the instant stuff from the drinks station? 😊

  13. We are on Silhouette in September. My husband loves an early morning coffee so I was wondering what time Café Al Bacio opens? If it is not terribly early can he get coffee from the coffee bar in the buffet? If so does this open about 6am? Can he make himself a coffee in Michael's Club? Does The Hideaway have a coffee machine?

Basically what are his options for very early morning coffee if he wants it? Lol

  14. Aurora is our favourite of the P&O ships we have sailed on too. We are 46 and 48. Great atmosphere, love Anderson's and The Glasshouse. Lovely fellow passengers (including Selbourne, Britboys and Mercury1234 (I know I've got those numbers wrong[emoji23]).

With regards to the children, we will welcome adults only too, not because we have encountered any badly behaved children (I can't actually remember seeing any....) but because the space previously taken by the kids club will hopefully be something interesting for all passengers. Looking forward to booking another cruise on her before too long. [emoji4]

  15. Well at least someone agrees with me.;) I have been looking at the Celebrity ships since I saw your comments. I do like the sound of a hot tub.:DWho knows maybe in the future. The Aurora is our favourite ship too.

The hot tub on the balcony is more of a large jacuzzi bath really and on our first cruise I found it more an annoying waste of space than a luxury. However, on the cruise we did this summer the weather was gloriously hot and I filled the bath with tepid water - then it was fantastic - my very own "plunge pool" to dip in and out of while sunbathing on our own balcony. 16. Although Celebrity may be a little more expensive from what you've said they certainly give quite a few perks to suite passengers. The only problem I have with Celebrity is that I prefer a smaller ship. I'm not saying P&O should give the same amount of perks just something extra. I like P&O for the itineraries but they should realise that not everyone is simply looking for a cheap deal.

P&O offer nothing to suite passengers regardless of how much they pay. We have done world cruises in the Penthouse suite on the Aurora paying £17000 more that the other suites. The last one it was £20,000 more. Can people really say that the fact we had more space was worth £20,000 more. I think other cruise lines seem to deliver better value for the money paid.

You make a great point. The 2 Penthouses on Aurora are the best suites in the fleet and we love them (Aurora is our favourite P&O ship so far) and your post has reminded me that I have seen prices advertised for one of these suites at the same (or even more) than a Royal Suite on Celebrity. So whilst it is true that P&O is predominantly much cheaper than lines offering more perks this is not always the case.

The RS is as impressive as the Piano Suite (in different ways) but the big balcony with hot tub probably means it slightly tops it, and the perks......

I highly recommend Celebrity, Pisces14. The Silhouette, which sails from Southampton is about the size of Ventura/Azura and as the higher end suites are midships everything feels close at hand....not sure why? So it doesn’t feel like a huge ship.

I agree that P&O should give more perks.

  17. I agree sounds far better than anything P&O can offer at the moment. But at £650 pppn as opposed to £250 pppn I would hope it was.

Found a cheaper cruise, Sep 19 Canaries 11 nights. Royal Suite. £604 pppn.

    Not comparing like for like.

    Agreed.

Anyway, I think we digress. The OP asked if there were any extra perks which might be expected, if not openly advertised, when booking a suite with a P&O. The answer is, sadly no.

There used to be more - more champagne, more parties, more freebies, I think you just get what is advertised these days. Which is fine, as Dai says, fewer bucks, less bang!

We will still sail with P&O and enjoy ourselves - of that I am sure. [emoji4]
