  1. The children's menu is current but what you call the "typical" menu is out of date. They no longer have tri tip or medallions on the Always Available menu.

That menu was from our TA cruise last year.

My point to the OP was that in addition to dinner menu choices which you can check out one day prior if you ask to see the menu, you can also put in a special request. No need to bring food from Horizon Court to the MDR

The children's menu spaghetti and meatballs is pretty good

I ordered it as an appetizer.

Ask to see the following day menu prior to leaving the dining room.

If there is nothing on the menu that you like you can make a special request

We don't care for the rolls that they put on the table so for every dinner we request a freshly baked challah

  3. I am traveling with my husband and another couple. Most of the dinner meals will be in the MDR.

I have looked at different MDR menus and I don't see a lot of foods that I would eat or really do not think I would like.

Do they serve hamburgers in the MDR? I have seen chicken which I like but not every night.

Question I have is Could I bring food from other places like Horizon buffet, pizza, BBQ etc. into the MDR so that I can eat and enjoy with others we are dining with?

Here is a typical dinner menu

  4. We've not done the Heathrow to Southampton transfer because we always arrive several days early but we've done it from Southampton to Heathrow and, in my opinion, it's the best option when flying home the same day. I believe the last time we did it, it was about $59 USD and we had to have our TA book it for us.

If you're flying to Heathrow the day the cruise departs, the Princess transfer is probably your best option. They will meet you at baggage claim and you'll put your suitcases on their bus. They next time you see your luggage will be in your cabin.

The buses will run all day, picking up at various terminals. Depending on your flight arrival time, there may be limitations on the availability of the option. You should contact your travel agent.

    ^^^^

    What they said

We used Princess transfer. The lines can be long getting thru customs but Princess will not leave you stranded.

  5. Not trying to be a food snob, but----

If you are comparing the steak to NYC steak houses, like Peter Lugers, Palm, etc there is no comparison. The Steak on the ship is not nearly as good-therefore, I no longer go

I've never found another steak house that compares to Peter Luger.

The only apple strudel that I found better than Peter Luger was in Vienna Austria.

  6. Hi

I have never been on a cruise before and I am looking at a 10-14 night cruise next September/October 2017. I only have one 'must' and that is NO CHILDREN. Can anyone suggest some crusie's to consider please. I don't mind Europe or Caribbean cruise.

    Thanks everyone

    Steve :)

If you ever had the opportunity to meet my three grandchildren you would love them as they are the best. :) (4 1/2, 3 1/12 and 19 months)

They will be on their first cruise next year but I won't tell you which cruise.

  7. I suggest you search the Regal and Royal reviews for "Marina Deck". Perhaps there will be a review on a close by room. I for one would not stay on Marina deck again even if you paid me! Cheers, Jaynak

    Can you please explain why?

We just booked that deck yesterday

  8. Hi all,

Slowly gathering items for a cruise from Fremantle to Singapore aboard the Dawn. Putting together a shopping last at present and would appreciate any essential items you bring?

Also can I bring along a power strip it says to check first as some lines prohibit such items. Could do with one as between us there will be 2 phones, 1 tablet and 2 cameras that will need charging.

Booked in an interior cabin is a night light needed, surely there would be light switches within reach of the bed?

    Thanks

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

Here is the power strip that I use that has four sockets and a LED that gives off just enough dim light in the cabin

  9. Howard,

what was the airline you used? We are looking to fly from JFK to Heathrow . We did a Viking cruise last year and bought airfare through them, got stuck on an older American Airlines plane, very little available as far as entertainment.

    We flew on Delta.

The flight was on time, the food was good but getting thru customs at Heathrow was a bit of a hassle.

  10. If anything, I would say that Heathrow would be worse at that time of day.

We arrived at Heathrow at 6:45 AM on an overnight flight from Newark (EWR). It took us over two hours to get thru customs as the airport was mobbed. Took about another hour to get on the bus to Southampton. We had EZ Air and Princess Transfers. We reached the Caribbean Princess in time to make the MDR for lunch. Overall not so bad but very tiring.

  11. Does anyone know what the TV connections are on onboard the Emerald Princess? I'm considering playing some movies through the TV in the room using whatever connections are available, if any. Thanks.

I don't know about the Emerald Princess, but on the Caribbean Princess the TV in our cabin had HDMI inputs on the left side of the TV so I was able to view my camera photos on the TV.

I bring my own power strip to charge my camera batteries, phone, and IPad. The power strip LED provides just enough dim light in the cabin at night to find my way to the bathroom

  12. Could someone who has been on the Caribbean Princess recently tell me how cool or warm the public areas (especially the dining room and theater) are in the evenings? Thanks!!

We were on the Caribbean Princess in September in the UK,Norway, Iceland, and Canada. The temperature in the public areas was neither too hot or too cold. It was just right. There were some days with no one in the outdoor pools.

Carry light sweater with you. You can always remove it.

  13. Hello...A small group of us will be doing the partial transit of Panama Canal next Feb 2017. Can anyone tell me if it is worth doing any of the excursions instead of staying onboard through the canal? Do I understand correctly that the ONLY way to do an excursion at Panama Canal/Gatun Lake is through Princess excursions...no private ones allowed?

    Thanks for the help!!

On our Dec 2013 cruise to the Panama Canal we took a Princess Tour to Panama City.

We wondered why the ship did not sail at the appointed time that evening.

We later found out that a group on another Princess Tour had a bus breakdown and did not return to the ship until 9PM. Not only did the ship wait for them but kept a dining room open for them.

We would never chance a private tour. Just not worth the savings if something goes wrong and the ship sails without you.

    We had a great time.

  14. You can do far better than the cruise line credit cards.

My Sam's Master Card gives 5% on gas, 3% on travel (restaurants, hotels, rental cars, airlines, cruises), and 1% cashback on everything else.

The cashback is combinable with all promotions. Can be used on all cruise lines. You're not locked into Princess. You can still get the military and stockholders credits too.

Thanks for the info but personally i do not care much for Sams Club or

Walmart and very rarely shop there. I see what they have done to many small businesses throughout the US and I do not much care for their wage and anti union business practices of their employees.

I'll stick with my Princess Visa card

    Howard

  15. It would be better to use a credit card (if you have one). Debit cards aren't as secure as credit cards. Also, if you do use your debit card, make sure you have a large enough limit for ALL of your charges that might occur on the ship plus any additional charges that might hit your account while on the cruise.

I'm having a hard time trying to understand why one would want to prepay anything?

Apply for a Princess Visa card and use that to obtain additional OBC along with the Military and stockholder credit.

At the end of the cruise you'll see your charges if any on your Princess Visa credit card statement.

As others have mentioned do not use a debit card

  16. thank you.we are not techy.platinum now and taking 14 nights cruise.where do we go with ipad to get free minutes.i think we get 250 minutes each for length of cruise.

    thank you

The internet manager will set you up

They put a logon and logoff shortcut on my ipad which made its use very easy. I have no sim card and was able to use facetime to reach our daughter a couple of times using the WiFi.

Early morning is the best time before everyone else is up

We got 250 minutes each on our 23 day T/A cruise
