  1. Our favorite "hang out" on Princess is the International Cafe (it is on Deck 5) which is open 24/7. but they do charge for the coffee/tea drinks. it is only the International Cafe that has fresh brewed real coffeee :).

    Hank

    Not exactly!

If either regular or Decaf coffee meets your needs you don't need to order any special coffee and there is no charge.

I was there every morning at 4:30 AM for three weeks for coffee, delicious apple and Blueberry turnovers and was never charged a cent.

    The HC opened at 6AM

The early morning hours are great for checking EMail with our free minutes.

  2. I really don't think so-- they are talking about having twice as many shares. I suspect princess would be ok with that.

    You are correct!

If mom has 100 shares of CCL and dad has another 100 shares of CCL then you can book one cabin for the parents and another cabin for the kids and receive OBC for both cabins. On a 14 day cruise that is an OBC of $500.00

  3. I am no expert but CCL closed down $1.00 today at $50.39 probably due to the turmoil going on in the world.

Stock repurchase programs reduce the number of outstanding shares and have the effect of boosting EPS (earnings per share) which will generally cause an increase in the price of a stock over time.

  4. Sorry I'm sure this question has been asked but I've searched and can't find specifics. If we have the 5:45 dinner time on a Southbound Alaskan cruise will we be done in time for the 7pm shows? (assuming that is what time the shows usually are - have never sailed on Princess before).

If you choose ATD and show up when the line begins to form around 4:50 PM for the opening of the dining room at around 5:15PM and choose a table of no more than six it is not only easy to make the first show but to get good seats by an early arrival.

I took the UST on the Caribbean Princess on our 23 day TA tour

Well worth the money for those that are interested. The wife wasn't!

We were told no cameras or picture taking was allowed while on the tour. They give you photos of your group in some of the various locations while on the tour.

During the tour of the medical center we were shown the cold storage space where they are able to store a dead body which does happen occasionally.

It happened to a friend of ours a year ago who passed away in her sleep on board ship while in Aruba. We attended her wake in NY and her husband had only praise for how the ship handled the death of his spouse. She got her moneys worth since it was the last port of the cruise.

The amount of fuel the ship uses is incredible.

Make a list of questions prior to the tour.

We took a mostly empty extra suitcase and paid the extra airline baggage charge so we had room for the heavy robe, picture frame and all the stuff we purchased for the grand-kids.

I would sign up again as it is an interesting 3 to 4 hours.

  6. Buying my CCL stock in Oct. 2008, during the recession, was a great decision. I paid $25/share for my 100 shares and now it's worth over $51.

So far my stock value has increased by $3,429 (and I now have 115 shares), I've received $1,200 in OBC, and $800 in dividends. That's a $5,429 profit in the past 7 yrs.

I purchased it inside my IRA so I didn't have to plunk down any cash and the increased value and dividends go toward making my future retirement even better!! Win-win. :D

The only problem with buying stock in an IRA is instead of the gain being a capitol gain and taxed at the capitol gains rate you are going to be taxed at a higher ordinary income tax rate when you remove them from an IRA. Unless of course it eventually goes to heirs.

  7. CRAP!!! I have been watching the price of the CCL shares for the past 2 days and was going to buy them when I got home from running my errands. Unfortunately, I was delayed and now I can't purchase and have proof of ownership until monday, the 16th. Our cruise leaves on the 25th. Have I "missed the boat" timewise to get OBC credit for my cruise???

Watching the price of a stock like CCL that you are going to keep to receive the dividends and OBC is a mistake that many make to try an save a few $$$. You can place limit orders so you don't have to watch a fluctuating stock price.

You might be able to place an order on a Fidelity or other brokerage web site and it will take place when the market opens on Monday. CCL closed today at $51.56 down $.61. It may take a few days for the transaction to post in your account

Call Princess and ask them if they will accept a Monday purchase.

    Good luck

  8. Would you please give me your opinion on the comfort level of the mattress/pillows? We're sailing on Caribbean Princess in May 2016 and I need to know whether to give up precious packing space for my pillow. I just got back from cruising on a different cruise line and for the first time ever had a mattress and pillows that were horribly flat and uncomfortable. I don't want a sore back to ruin what I'm sure is going to be a fabulous cruise, so I appreciate your input!

We recently spent 23 days on the Caribbean Princess on Plaza deck. Our pillows were fine and only had a little trouble sleeping a couple of nights when huge 30 ft waves were slapping against the side of the ship with 65 knot winds.

    Loved the cruise

  9. We will have quite a bit of OBC on an upcoming cruise and I was thinking of purchasing a camera. Is there any way to know what brands/types that might be available so I can do a bit of research before hand? I realize different ships might/will have different camera. It will be on the Crown. Also realize limited inventory and what they have one day might not be available the next week. But looking for general brands and types and is the pricing reasonable?

I purchase all my camera gear here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

  10. 1) No "first to the fun" - your cabin will be ready when you board.

    2) You can't make reservations for specialty dining, the sanctuary, etc until you are on the ship.

    3) The Future Cruise Deposits cost $100pp and are good for 2 years and can request a 2 year extension. They are fully refundable, if you don't use. OBC ranges from $15-$150 depending on cabin & length of cruise.

    4) Coffee card costs $33 for 15 specialty coffees and unlimited brewed coffee, tea, hot chocolate. If you don't use all 15 specialty coffees, you can use on your next cruise (no more brewed:().

    5) OBC is stackable, very few restrictions for that.

    6) Veterans get OBC ($50-$250) by sending a copy of the DD214 - only need to send it once, it goes on your record.

    7) One MDR is usually open for lunch on embarkation day. Don't ask a crew member for directions, they will send you to the buffet. Check the Patter (in your cabin when you board) or just go to the MDRs on 5 & 6 and see which one is open.

There is more!! Others will chime in with the stuff I left out.

Buy 100 shares of Carnival CCL and receive an additional OBC. Also pays a decent dividend.

On our recent Caribbean Princess 23 day cruise the HC did not open until 6 AM

The International Cafe starts putting out fresh delicious apple and blueberry turnovers around 4:30 AM and if you take their regular brewed coffee there is no extra charge or a coffee card is not needed.

The line for dinner for ATD starts forming at the Coral Dining Room on deck 5 around 4:45PM. We liked eating early to make the first show and obtain a decent seat in the theater.

  11. I just completed a Panama Canal cruise on the Coral Princess. I have to say embarkation went as well as it could have for me (But, I have preferred boarding) I arrived around 11:10 am and there was a short "Preferred" line, but went fast. We were then shown to the elite area. We were advised by a representative of the outsource port company we would be delayed due to a Coast Guard inspection requirement. We watched them go out and they returned fairly quickly. He kept coming back with updates too. I was impressed with him. Initially we were told boarding would likely begin at 1:00 pm, but actually we boarded at 12:30 pm.

Upon return, I could not believe how well disembarkation went. My group had just been called when I arrived 10 minutes prior to my assigned time, so I went straight to the gangway and off the ship. Customs and border patrol moved at a great pace and I was all the way outside the terminal in less than 20 minutes. I believe we were at terminal 19. Quite a difference for me since my previous time was nearly 4 hours to get out of the building, UGH!!!!!

We've cruised a few times out of Ft. Lauderdale and usually arrive around 10 AM to get a good spot near the elevator and stairway in the parking deck. On our last 5 day cruise to Mexico on the Caribbean Princess we were in the dining room having lunch by 12:30 PM. No problems whatsoever.

  12. Just wondering: has any one used Princess transfer from JFK to Red Hook in Brooklyn? (and reverse)

We will be returning a car rental to JFK and could just as easily get a taxi (I'm at this airport often) to the pier- but wondering if we should use Princess transfer. Also after the cruise we will be renting a car again at JFK- no hurry to get off ship- we'd like to leave around 10:00 after the heaviest am traffic.

The only other times we used Princess transfers was once in FLL big mistake

(2 hour wait sitting in a hot bus!)

Great experience off Alaska cruise ending in Whittier- Princess transfer made a lot of sense for that port.

On our recent 23 day cruise on the Caribbean Princess we used their transfer from Red Hook to Newark Airport and we had no problems or issues. Our daughter picked us up at EWR rather than have her drive into Brooklyn

  13. Howard, Had you already eaten the cherry off the volcano when the picture was taken? ;)

Sometimes it came with a cherry

And sometimes it came with strawberrys

And if you don't care for the rolls that they bring to the table you can order a fresh delicious Challah that they will bring to the table at no extra charge but you have to order it one day ahead of time.

    Happy Dining

  14. We've always been happy and found it very convenient to park at the cruise terminal parking. :)

Same here. The Cruise Terminal Parking is covered so my vehicle is not out in the hot sun, very convenient, and I prefer to lock my vehicle and not leave anyone the key. Also a very short walk to board the ship. We also tip to have our luggage brought right to our vehicle at the end of the cruise. I hate hassles just to save a few dollars. If you arrive early when others are leaving the ship you can usually grab a good spot right near the elevator or stairway.

  15. I bought at $38.11 so I've got an unrealized gain of $1504. I bought for the dividends and the OBC. The stock may or may not go up or down from here. The dividend and OBC make it a good value.

    Agreed Rocketman!

Thus far CCL has been a great investment. Paid $33.91 a few years ago with Fidelity for a $7.95 charge. My unrealized gain thus far is $1945.35

For those that are thinking of treating children or grandchildren than both need to have shares in their own name to receive OBC for both cabins.

I really don't care how the stock moves as long as I continue to receive OBC and the dividends. We currently have two future cruise deposits with Princess and are still trying to decide where to cruise next.

  16. We are trying to decide if we should bring a laptop on our upcoming cruise or just go to the internet cafe to use the internet. Is it usually crowded and are you limited on your time there?

A couple of weeks prior to our recent cruise I decided to purchase an IPad mini.

    Very glad I did.

My email was already set up for outlook when we boarded the Caribbean Princess. I did need a little assistance from the Internet Manager in configuring the incoming and outgoing mail servers for the ship but she added icons for logging in and logging out which was most helpful.

It also took very little time to download the daily edition of The New York Times which I was able to read on my IPad after logging off.

If you don't logoff properly you continue to rack up minutes.

  17. I can't answer the question about cover charges for children in the specialty restaurants, sorry.

There is a kid's menu in the main dining rooms and it does feature chicken fingers and dogs and other stuff. Wait, let me google . . . Okay, this is a few years old, but I don't think it's changed much if at all:

    P1050573.jpg

The best item on the childrens menu is The Love Boat Volcano

    Delicious!

The Spaghetti Snakes with meatballs as an appetizer is pretty good also.

  18. The Caribbean Princess uses the Island dining room on deck 5 for Anytime Dining starting at 5:30 p.m., and the Coral dining room on deck 6 beginning around 7:30 p.m. after the early Traditional diners have finished. On a recent Canadian fall foliage cruise, however, the lines for the Island dining room began forming at 4:45 p.m., and by 5:00 p.m., they stretched all the back past the IC to Vines, so Princess opened the Island at 5:15 p.m. Even then, those who arrived by a little after 5:30 p.m. received buzzers.

We pretty much had the same experience on our recent three week TA cruise on the Caribbean Princess.

Our cabin was on the Plaza deck and the lines for anytime dining started forming at 4:45PM and on many evenings the line was so long it was reaching the paintings in the gallery. On some days they opened the Coral Dining room at 5:10 PM

Most eating that early were able to make the first show in the Princess Theater.

We did not mind eating an early dinner.

  19. Early in the morning (6AM or earlier) and late at night (10PM or later) are usually the best times to go on the internet.

Middle of the day is painfully SSSLLLOOOOWWW.

    You are correct!

    To the OP OURSBRAUN

Having just spent three weeks on the Caribbean Princess with a new IPAD Mini3 I found getting assistance at the internet cafe most helpful.

They put a login and logoff shortcut on my IPAD.

The reason the on board WiFi is so slow is they have limited bandwidth and the signal has to travel over 22k miles up to a satellite and another 22k miles down to connect to an earth server.

Compose your emails prior to connecting and do not attempt to send photos using the ship's WiFi

In many ports there is free WiFi which in some cases is excellent. I had excellent WiFi in a Bergen Norway shopping mall while the wife was shopping and was able to make free telephone calls.

You can also send free E cards while on board from the Princess web site.

I was also able to download the entire daily New York Times on the ships WiFi that only took a minute or two to be read later after disconnecting.

Also downloading the yahoo weather app with 19 cities including home and future ports only took a few seconds.

    Good luck and happy sailing.
