  1. Again thanks to everyone for their interest in this post. Especially thanks to the person who gave me Andy Stuart's email address. NCL and I have worked something out that we are both very comfortable with. I don't think it would have been done without CC helping me get to the right person. I had googled trying to get email or phone numbers and had had no luck other than generic information. Should have tried CC a week ago.

I was pretty confident you would. Good for you. Have fun.

  2. Of course OP can ask.

"I am not feeling the love from NCL right now," he wrote.

My issue is that the OP is expecting to get what he wants because of his spend.

Anything NCL gives him because of his status should be appreciated as NCL doing something to bend over backwards. Instead, the OP is looking to shame and complain about NCL for not giving him what he wants.

And I want to highlight again that he is spending for someone else. He is booking 10 cabins. There very easily could be someone on their first NCL cruise who, if NCL complies with the OP, may benefit getting a Haven at a discounted price when a passenger who is actually loyal but on a separate booking, who bid fairly, may get shut out. So now we are basing loyalty on whose credit card was swiped, rather than who sails. But hey, it worked for Ivanka Trump and the Kardashian sisters.

I'm not trying to convince others to see it my way. Half this board will agree with me and the other half will disagree. I would just like the OP have some understanding of how his post can come off to others.

You don't get it. The OP spent the $1 million and the OP gets to decide who they spend the next million bucks with. The loyalty is with the OP and the million spent.

If one cabin is a one and done customer the OP will fill the cabin next time with a different employee. As a bonus NCL gets to try and make everyone of those cruisers a life long customer.

  3. You may be a Mom and Pop business but NCL is not. To you spending approximately $1 million on cruises over the last years would make you the equivalent of a top customer at your business and the biggest fish in the sea but to NCL you're one of many. NCL's bidding system offers opportunities to its cruisers to upgrade to rooms they normally wouldn't go after while helping NCL maximize their earnings. It's genius.. To cut you a deal just because you are a loyal customer undermines that completely on two levels. First, those customers on your sailing who put in bids that would have been accepted on other sailings may not because a loyal (or I'd say loyally entitled) customer swooped in and took that opportunity away from them. Second, NCL doesn't maximize its earnings by cutting you a deal when other customers may have been willing to spend more. The rules of the upgrade program are stated clearly and fairly. I don't think NCL wronged you in any way to warrant this rant of yours.

I would be surprised if NCL makes things right in your eyes. And quite frankly, if NCL does, I would be very disappointed. I hope NCL stands their ground on this one. In the end, your $1 million over however many years shouldn't mean too much to them.

Too many things wrong with your post to try and correct. $1 million on cruises with the same company makes her a very big fish. At the very least in the top 1%. In business you take good care of your customers but you take very good care of your top 1%.

The people putting bids in are all trying to get something for a discounted rate and are playing the system that NCL put in place. If the OP is able to cut a deal then she is getting a discounted rate for playing the system NCL allows. Good for her and I bet she succeeds.

  4. Your to funny. Your reply just shows lack of social development. I don't smoke and I don't care about smoking. I do eat healthy so oh well. What I don't do is come onboard a ship which is a community at sea and insist everyone conform to my idea of right or wrong, healthy or not healthy. I realize that freedom provides choices. If you can't handle that someone smokes etc. stay home or don't cruise. It's that simple.

I choose not to smoke or eat sugary food, foods or desserts or meat. However, if we are both onboard I won't be complaining about you eating meat, desserts that clog arteries etc. or someone that smokes. I leave that at the gangway and accept everyone onboard and their habits. If I couldn't handle it I wouldn't cruise. So fix yourself to perfection before you force your opinions on others. So tired of it

I see your point and I agree with you. I hate it when people throw sugar at me, rub

desserts into my hair and shove meat into my mouth.

  5. I hear this thread caught the ear of NCL brass and they are going to turn the newly built ships to no smoking.

The main reason is they want to appease the 50 or so folks on here who want the ships to be smoke free. Is that great news or what!!!

They also called carnival and asked them what mistakes to avoid since Carnival tried a non smoking ship and it bombed they were the lowest $$$ maker on the line.

I also heard one of the ships will be kid free there bringing back lobster and getting rid of the bidding system for that ship all cabins will be haven cabins so everyone feels special. There bringing back fireworks and the welcome aboard drink. Plus there will be two huge pools on the ship. And no one has to pay for or book the shows.

 Man I wish this thread would die this is the worst part of CC divide and conquer smokers vs non smokers, drinkers vs non drinkers , familys vs old people who hate kids...... All this stuff should go away it does no good and it is not a learning experience it is screaming your argument on a soap box.

Some people just can't see what is smacking them right in the face. Your attempt at humor actually proves what is happening. Smoking has and will continue to get more and more restrictive. The cutbacks will continue. These trends will not just disappear.

All the cruise lines continue to do these things.

A cruise line will take away a mint to save a penny. Don't you think they have seen how much they save by making the smoking policy more restrictive ? Are there more cabins sailing at a higher capacity now than when you could smoke in the restaurants, cabins and on the balconies or less ?

All these same arguments come up whenever a cruise line takes away another place people can smoke but all the cruise lines continue to proceed in that direction. Yes there will be smoke free casinos and it will not be that long from now.

  6. The fad of ripped jeans has passed. Additionally, it is usually too hot to where jeans. With that being said, there are only two venues that require long pants and "gently ripped" should be OK.

The temp in the restaurants is the same as a restaurant in Alaska in February or Yuma in August

  7. Ya sure sort of expected that comment - reply ---

What if the Big Mac meets the real Mac the 18 wheeler type - I managed to salvage the usable portion

of the tray and with MacGyver modification brought it back to life enough for my purposes - flat and packs

nicely in the bottom of my luggage with minimal weight - think back 50 years to a TV tray for cruisers !

Sticky fingers maybe someone had pancakes and Mc Sausage with syrup ?! Want fries with that ? LOL !

The thrift shop types maybe a bit of an overkill with all them chrome features suitable for a tea party.

Anybody else have no idea what this all means ?

  8. My understanding has always been that as a corporate decision they disapprove of bottled water. They believe their tap water is fine. And in order to further their belief yet accommodate those who insist. They make bottled water prohibitively expensive. So don't buy it. They don't want you too. However. I do think it would be a good idea to hand it out as we get off the ship in certain ports. They don't. And that is consistent with their bottled water practices.

    You're joking, right ?

  9. Pretty useless reply above. Even a short cruise needs some research.

I loved the Enchantment. It has a great pool deck and a very manageable size. Great ship for a short cruise. Majesty is nice for an older ship

but there have been a few problems lately with departing on time. Coco Cay is an awesome private island.

  10. About 15 years ago I took Marie on a local dinner train for her birthday. A co-worker took the same train the week before. We compared notes after and he hated it. For him it was slow service, cold food and not a scenic ride due to trash along the tracks (he even took pictures of it). For me it was terrific, the service matched the relaxed pace of the trip, food was normal temp you would find for a chain restaurant, and looking out over Lake Washington towards Seattle and the Olympic Mountains was breathtaking.

Marie still mentions this as one of her favorite birthdays. It's all about perception and attitude.

So if you don't like chocolate ice cream it's because of your perception and attitude ?

It's not possible that different people like different things ?
