You realize that NCL DO come here and read these threads, and now your avatar is a clear selfie of yourself - bet that they will post the photo everywhere on the Escape when you board on Sunday!!

Declare and pay up like we all do!

    🤣🤣

So true. You will also be denied access to the glass bottom viewing room, the marine life is amazing.

So when staying at a hotel that is $300 a night you tip $60 a day (20%) ? Not a very good analogy IMO.

If you tip at a fair rate you do, if not, you don't...which makes it a perfect analogy, btw.

Better to ask, if you are willing to tip $60 for a $300 dinner, then why would you not be willing to offer the exact same tip for the hotel staff??

Thank you for explaining that. It now makes perfect sense. You are definitely more generous than me since you

would opt to tip at the fair rate of $51.43 per person, per day on an $1800 cruise instead of paying the absolute bargain price of $15 a day.

The "normal" rate for tipping these days is 20%. Given that, lets look at the cruise numbers...

$9,000 for a family of five is $1,800 per person.

    20% gratuity on $1,800 is $360.

Assuming a 7-day cruise, that breaks down to $51.43 per day.

I'd much rather pay $15.00 DSC than a $51.43 DSC.

That $36.43 difference makes the DSC look like an absolute bargain.

$15.00 in DSC for an $1,800 cruise is a gratuity of 5.8%, seems very cheap for a tip, no?

So when staying at a hotel that is $300 a night you tip $60 a day (20%) ? Not a very good analogy IMO.

  4. My uninformed, uneducated guess is that eventually the drink package will not be honored at Coco Cay.

Whether right or wrong somebody in charge has to be thinking there is a lot of money to be had by charging people

$10-$15 a drink when they are stuck on an island for two days.

Cruise lines have a hard time resisting following what other cruise lines do. Some are good and some are not so good but

one company starts it and others follow. Is RCCL the only one that honors the drink package on their private islands ?

Room service charges, pay dining venues, private islands, slides, drink packages, paying for programs that offer special services, smoking restrictions, more elaborate onboard shows, can't bring alcohol onboard, can bring two bottles of wine and the list goes on.

Why on earth would you expect prices beneath land-based operations? I would expect them to be the same as a big city, like they are on most other cruise lines.

Drink prices used to be less than a big city, like New York, until drink packages were offered.

The price per drink went up to encourage people to buy the packages and it worked.

Individual drink prices on a cruise are still less than New York City bar prices.

Cruise lines pay a lot less for liquor than bars do in US cities.

You booked a 4 night "party barge" cruise.  What did you expect?

Brought her back from Europe last fall and she was in fine shape then.

The 3 and 4 night  trips draw a different crowd and lots of wear and tear.

Ridiculous statement. I have been on Brilliance for a four night, over spring break, and it was far from a party barge.

Sure if you want to think that.

I think anyone with a brain would infer that I just don't like wasting food, but per the usual Cruise Critic, there's always a thorn amongst the roses.

    🙄🙄

P.S. - It's people like you that ruin Cruise Critic.

I can take being called brainless but saying I am helping to ruin Cruise Critic, that hurts.

    I had RNY in 2012.

I only order what I will absolutely eat in that seating.

I will also tell them to omit the starches.

I don't like wasting food; too many starving people in the world.

I've sailed multiple times on several different lines and I've never once had an issue.

They just want you to be happy.

So if a cruise line goes through less food they send the extra to starving people all over the world ?

Also, I have a problem with references to second hand smoke and its relation to lung cancer. The EPA did a study of  recent lung cancer deaths among non smokers and found that the leading  cause was Radon, a naturally occurring gas in rock.

I lived in Connecticut, and when i bought a home, a radon inspection was a requirement. It  turned out positive, and they had to drill  a hole in the foundation , install a duct to the outside  with a fan to draw the gas outside.

Only the leading cause of lung cancer deaths should be addressed ?

Cruisers have carried beer off the ship in coolers.  But not in hand.

Seriously, if you need a beer in hand to walk down the pier to buy one at a local bar within a 1/4 mile of the ship, you may have to give some thought to joining Friends of Bill.

In the ports where you are going,  two bars one on each side  right off the pier in Grand Turk.

Several places in Amber Cove right at the cruise port, St Thomas has Sr Frogs glaring at you when you arrive.

San Juan is a short couple of blocks up to a plaza surrounded by bars and restaurants.

Seriously, if you need to grab as soon as you get off the ship, you may have to give some thought to joining Friends of Bill.

Or maybe you are just on vacation and your desires are a little different than in every day life.

  12. I guess people using scooters or wheelchairs are next. I use a scooter when cruising which allows me pretty much use of the ship i cannot walk more than a few feet at a time. Ive heard the remarks behind my back, cowards would not address me face to face. Oh boy, i think some people should read Mein Kaumpf. Get the picture?

Obviously that will never happen because people with real mobility issues need scooters and wheelchairs.

The same way people have a real need for service animals and will continue to be able to bring those animals

    on the ship.

I am curious why you think anyone would be afraid to address you face to face when you cannot walk more than

    a few feet.

  13. I agree about Stingray City but be aware that the boats carry a bunch of passengers so each persons time with the Rays is limited. We chartered a boat (with captain and mate) from Ebanks Watersports and had no time restrictions- could also do snorkeling and beach time as we wished.

You can spend as much time as you want with the stingrays, plenty to go around.

  14. It's one thing to brag about smuggling booze onto the ship. It's extraordinarily stupid to brag about smuggling contraband through Customs and Border Protection.

I'm sure Customs has already tracked that person down and put them in cigarette jail.
