We are from the northwest of UK and Viking does a tour from Liverpool to Port Sunlight and Ness gardens. We have been to both places before as they are only a 1 hour drive from home and really enjoyed them. I suggest you read the Viking description to see if it is your type of trip. Not many people in the UK would even know of these let alone have been there unless they are local. We were in Port Sunlight last week and it has a wonderful feeling of oldie worldliness. Hardly anyone was there. This time we were meeting my sister so we did not do the Lady Lever Art gallery (except the café for lunch) but did walk around the village which was built by the Victorian, Lord Leverhulme, for the workers in his soap industry.

Thanks to poulsbo-cruisers for the heads up.
We have been able to cancel our already booked PCR tests with a full refund in 14 days. 24 hour notification was needed so 14th June would have been too late for our cruise.
Having booked for 2020, then 2021 now 2022 looks as if it is happening at last.

We were on this cruise September 2019 ahead of V Sun by two days. We were on V Sea. Arrived in Bergen and set off straight away on embarkation day to try to avoid hurricane Dorian. We still had severe seas! We missed Shetland and Faroes but had extra stops in Iceland after the sea days. We had only one stop in Greenland and the second was scenic sailing in a more sheltered sound. After recovering from my sea-sickness (when I was saying never again) we booked another cruise onboard for 2020. About to take that in two weeks time (fingers crossed) after it was Covid cancelled for 2020 and again for 2021. The included tour in Saguenay was
La Fabuleuse Live Stage Show
which really was fabulous. Staged by locals of all ages and I’d happily see it again.

JD, so sorry to hear your news. After looking forward to the invitational cruise for such a long time this really is awful for you. I hope that J is not too unwell and is coping with quarantine well.

Hello survivors, hope everything has started well for you and continues that way. We’d love to hear about your experience this time and how many made the trip.

Sounds good, hope you all have a good reunion and a safe, uneventful cruise to gain lots of lovely new memories.

We were wondering if this is happening on Viking Mars as we have not seen any posts recently. I’ve found the roll call now but not the itinerary so are curious about the ports of call. We’ve heard it was christened in Valletta on 17th and that it is now in Gozo. Love to hear any news. We wish the ‘survivors’ an enjoyable return and safe sailing.

- I posted this from our NL cruise in February 2022 about the difference of the Viking optional cruises in Alta and Tromso. Other
We’ve just returned from the previous cruise today. We had 4 sea days at the end (2 were scheduled and 2 missed ports, Bodo and Lerwick), because of the hurricane speed wind and waves of up to 30 feet. We both used seasickness tablets on the first two of these days plus I used wrist bands, green apples and crystallised ginger. After that the last 2 days were OK , waves down to about 6-10 feet, winds still strong, it was bracing on deck!
Just a heads up on the Chasing/Searching for the Northern Lights in Alta and Tromso. Although the descriptions are the same the excursions are not. The one in Alta has facilities, loos, shelter, campfire etc for the minus 16C temperatures, (sorry not to know the equivalent in Fahrenheit) whereas the one in Tromso is in a forest near a road with no facilities. When we heard this at the port talk we realised it was not suitable for us and cancelled. As it happened the night was cloudy and there were no sightings, so we were not too disappointed.
As usual, we really enjoyed being back on a Viking ship ( we have done 6 River and 8 Ocean with 3 more this year postponed from 2020 and 2021)
I hope you all get better sea conditions than we did and get to see the lights and all the ports.

I think the title of this thread is misleading. I thought something dreadful or dangerous must have happened.
While some new destinations would be nice, it is not a serious happening.- 7

I was wondering about bringing some materials but couldn’t decide where I could go to paint if there are no organised classes with designated areas. Any ideas for places to paint on my own?
-
More questions about Art. Are materials provided or would you have to bring your own? Is there a charge for the classes?
-
There were none on our trans Atlantic in 2019 but then it was rather challenging avoiding hurricane Dorian. May have been difficult to have a class during the conditions.
-
Where are the Art classes on board held. I’ve not seen any on the shorter cruises that we have done. I’d be interested in classes.

Hello all
I note that there are Art classes on the World Cruise at present. Has anyone had them on shorter Ocean cruises? I went to one on a Viking River cruise a few years ago but have not seen any on the other VO and VR cruises that we have done.

Just logged in today with no problems. Coincidence or has the problem been solved? Keeping fingers crossed.
-
Yes I have the same problem in the UK using my iPad mini. My husband does not have the problem with his iPad. I assumed it was my gremlins which follow me to everything technological that I use! I’m so pleased to hear from you about this as I thought it was me. Keep posting if you find out how to fix the problem. It comes and goes but is usually the double login requirement.

I love ‘The Traveler’ music on the ads in the UK, always reminds me of our 14 cruises with Viking and counting. Looking forward to our B2B in June on Venus.

We did the Northern Lights cruise this February and did mainly included tours. We had excellent guides in Bergen and Narvik but the one in Alta did not do his job properly. He did not bring his quiet vox transmitter as he said he preferred to use his voice. Most of the 22 could not hear him and those with hearing loops ready for the quiet vox had no chance.
He did not have much to say and luckily the Cathedral of the Northern Lights guide took over (even checking his numbers and informing he had lost 2) She was excellent. Several people including me complained that he did not guide us properly. Viking takes onboard all comments both positive and negative. I think lots of guides have had to take other jobs because of the pandemic and now there are not enough to go round.
I praise the good ones as well.

I’ve never looked before but will be onboard for 4 weeks in June, so I wondered if anyone could post a price list for a ladies hair cut.
-
I forgot to ask in the previous post which ship and the name of the cruise.
-
Sorry I missed hearing this , but where and when is the invitational cruise? I hope all those onboard have a safe and enjoyable cruise.
We’ve just returned from a NL cruise and had bad weather conditions. I cannot imagine what you went through. I hope this chairman’s cruise goes some way to giving good memories.
-
My cancellation was onboard and went to OBC as described in post 3 above.

When we cancelled the NL Tromso excursion it was put into 2 categories, non refundable OBC for the part we paid with shipboard credit and refundable OBC for the part we put on a credit card. We were told the latter would be repaid to the credit card 3-6 weeks after our return, but in the end we spent it all! New handbag and raincoat.

A friend asked me about drawer space in the DV and V cabins. I know there were 3 drawers added in the wardrobe on the later ships and can’t remember when this was done. I know this has been posted before, probably by Peregrina, but I can’t find it. Am I right in thinking that only Star and Sea don’t have the extra drawers.
Missed Port Lerwick
in Viking Ocean
Posted
We should have docked in Lerwick, Shetlands today, but woke up to find that weather conditions were such that we couldn’t get in to Lerwick. (Winds and narrow channel?) Captain’s noon announcement might elaborate.
It turned out we were right it was the wind, as the waves are not bad.
It appears we must jinx the Shetlands as we missed them when we did the Northern Lights cruise in February.
So now we have 3 consecutive sea days as we sail to the North Cape. Lots of reading and eating!
Yesterday was an enjoyable day in Orkney with good weather, great scenery and history.
Has anyone made it into Lerwick this year? We are due to return on 3rd July.
