Did SS give prior notice to do that? Because I never heard of it till now?

I never got anything from SS for this or to date, advice we will be tested on embarkation.

this is the visit japan website. Create an account and provide the information requested. Vaccination uploads, passport and flight details, customs declarations and where you are saying. Nothing too taxing, though it wasn’t obvious (to me) the hotel info and prefecture for example. Once done it takes a day or so to get your confirmation through and your QR codes to use on the auto gates.

Here's what I received from Silversea today about the data breach:

    "Dear Silversea Venetian Club member,

You may be aware that some of your personal information including future cruises booked and your credit card data may have been visible to other Venetian Club members via the My Silversea portal for a brief period on March 28. This was not a data breach, but rather part of a new Silversea marketing campaign designed to increase sales by making you envious of other Venetian Club members and the wonderful cruises they have signed up for that you haven't. In addition, the only reason we shared with you the credit card information of other Venetian Club members was to make it easier for you to make a deposit on a future cruise, especially if your current credit card has been maxed out.

We hope you appreciate our new marketing campaign and we look forward to surprising you with other unique features in future.

    - The Silversea Marketing Team"

If only you had posted that yesterday! Would have been quite apt!

Les, we have--if our flt from LAX is on time--about 1hr45min to get from terminal 3 to term. 1 at Haneda for our flt to Itami-Osaka. If we miss it the other option on JAL is to KIX-Osaka airport which is way the heck out of town, hopefully the airline will be able to contact SS to pick us up there.

There is one flight per hour on JAL from Haneda to Itami - that's the reason I'm not phased by the high risk of missing the booked connection. This would be dealt with by JAL not SS. Not a chance they would be involved. But obviously the transfer will however be arranged by SS for your allocated flight. Not sure how that would pan out. If they are not at the airport to meet and greet, I will just take public transport with my bags to the hotel and not bother with SS if they are nowhere to be seen. Its approx 1h10m and a bit of an adventure. if it wasn't for the luggage, I'd probably prefer that to the coach they have probably laid on! Its a similar time for Kix too and there is a one train line to within a few minutes walk of the Imperial.

Obviously if you are delayed and you are able to get in touch with SS prior to leaving Haneda, there is a possibility they will act, but im certain its not something they monitor. It's probably something to ask prior to leaving "what if". I doubt they have a plan B, but they should be able to advise and maybe sort in the short space something else. However - note the time difference.... its improbable!

Just prior to Covid our BA flight was eventually cancelled after waiting gate side at Fort Lauderdale for 6 or more hours. BA abandoned us at the airport, though did put us up for the night. They expected everyone to make their way to Miami at their own expense and agree to a change of ticket. (That would mean getting out of the 1200 Euro compensation owing.) To top it, they wanted to downgrade us to Economy as flights were pretty full. We eventually got a flight home from FLL after being on the phone most of the night and morning with BA who were extremely unhelpful. Luckily the agent we booked with I managed to speak to and they could see there were spare seats on the flight we caught home - but had to argue the case. SS didn't want to know.

Acquaintances who flew to Haneda last week reported that “getting through customs was a zoo with very long lines and a lot of confusion as people are supposed to have downloaded their entry forms and filled them out online, but a lot of people hadn’t.  It took us an hour to get through.”

Ok, so sounds like I'd suggested and the issue was arrivals unprepared. I've done all the necessary and printed out the QRs credit card style sealed in plastic. Ive also got the Jpegs on my phone as well as immigration things all printed for easy access.

Hoping its not a Zoo if organised - and holding up the QRs will make it nice and easy. I think our connection in a different terminal and 10 minute bus ride, might be a bit tight for our 1h50m connection, though luckily the service is frequent so hopefully not a problem.

  5. OK, this time in 3 weeks, we should be half way onto Japan for our Osaka cruise. Normally, there wouldn't be too much to be fact finding for outside of things to see, but not this time!

Firstly we know to board, we have to have a covid test result from within 48 hours (there are differences for Antigen and PCR - but this is just acknowledging its the case.)

To date, we still haven't been sent any info by SS and for the Dawn last month, we were told SS no longer issues cruise tickets. I did get an email "welcoming me on board" but was quite generic. On the Roll call it seems they are being sent to US guests. Thanks to CC and a thread in January it wont be a surprise when arriving in port, but going on reports, it has been for some who've arrived without.

Anyway, we know its going to happen and we know they'll also take a temperature check.

On that other site, apparently this temperature check is daily and all staff are wearing masks in Japanese waters.

    Anyone able to verify that?

On the Dawn last month, it was quite close to being back to normal. But on the Moon last year when they did temperature checks daily, all activities were also accompanied with close contact notes. (ie who you sat with at meals, triv etc.) Obviously having been there done that, this can and will have a negative impact. After having to isolate, I chose to no longer mix without some distance or attend Triv.

I have no idea if that has come back for the Muse in Japan, but hoping anyone onboard now or the next sailing could comment. With the things Ive heard and the fears  for cruising by Japan, I do wonder if that will be the case. I hope it isn't.

Also, the cruise starts from Osaka. There are 2 possible start places that I can see. One is the Tempozan cruise centre which is the nearest to the hotel we are staying, the other is Kobe Osaka - which as the name suggests is actually in Kobe. Now understandably, it sounds pretty obvious that the cruise will start from Tempozan. My doubts come from Cruisemapper and the Osaka cruise port info, which appears to confirm it starts from Kobe Osaka.

Ordinarily I'd not be too concerned as the transfers are included. However, we've kind of decided that on the morning of the cruise, we will catch a return Bullet train to Kyoto for a very brief visit and make our own way to the ship...... ie it would be good to know beforehand which it'll be so we can calculate routes etc.

My gut feeling is that it will be Tempozan.

Last question - arriving in Japan and the Visit Japan QR codes. What Ive seen online, once youve made your declarations, you simply use the auto gates which are very quick. Then passport control. Again, on the Roll Call, someone has posted something theyve seen from another guest saying they had to queue for 2 hours with their QR codes, which doesn't sound right. We fly to Haneda. Not sure if that info was for Narita, but suspect it will be similar. All the YT videos Ive seen suggest if you have your QR codes, then its a simple process.

Thanks for this thread.  As a control freak, it was really freaking me out!  So today I booked my flights directly with the airlines.  Now the question is whether to keep my D2D but back out the Business Air and take the no-air credit, or switch to P2P and save some more.  [More research!  Keeps me off the streets...]

Whilst I'd usually prefer flights not using silverair, the caveat for me has always revolved around the outcome should the CL deviate the cruise or even cancel it.

For shorted distances (and I am referring to cash not air miles), Id take the chance, but on a voyage like my next which is London to Osaka and Anchorage to London, I'd not take the risk. The other thing to be wary about for insurance purposes, is booking a cruise and flights separately could have a huge impact on cover. (ie your cruise may not actually have cover at all.) All in the small print, but is something I'm acutely aware could end badly!

I've since retried 0207 340 0700 and it now seems to work. From forums elsewhere it appears hit and miss as to whether you can get through, though it is closed today. All the website information pushes the 0844 number though so it can only be a matter of time before it's the sole option

The website has had that number shown for at least 4 years now and commented on CC at the time with the same thoughts as now. I've always been able to speak to someone on the 0207 number listed by beaujolais. The direct number I had to my SS consultant has now been retired after he was promoted. That has now been replaced with a different 0207 direct dial number and to date has worked.

I'm guessing you may have heard an automatic out of office reply. Hope so anyway. No one wants 0844/45 and there is absolutely no reason to push it.

Looks like they are all singing from the same song sheet.  The "system glitch" is now an "issue being investigated internally and has been contained".   Both are lines pulled from their corporate PR handbook to be used during this type of situation.

    It genuinely doesn't matter.

The fact I could see other peoples personal details (and others obviously mine) that is a data breach by definition. Perhaps it needs to be investigated externally as I don't think they quite get it!

  9. I cant say I've tried too much Japanese food before. I'm pretty fussy and not keen on anything raw. However, I tried lunch on the Muse in 2017, Dawn last month at lunch and thought it was OK. I did try in the evening on this trip and enjoyed it. We are on the Muse in 3 weeks and looking forward to trying some food in Osaka and Tokyo and have rebooked the Japanese on the Muse for this cruise, so its a thumbs up from me.

We enjoyed our lunch there very much. It was more of an appetizer though, so we went to the grill for dessert burgers an hour or two later.

They kept insisting we had more... and if they had their way, would have become Mr Creosote! 🤣

  10. My drink of choice on the Dawn was Ginato (Orange flavoured) with fever tree Mediterranean tonic. As mentioned they certainly had many gins on the ship posted above. But things will be subject to locale.

Unbelievably for an Italian ship, with a Pizzeria, they had no Peroni on the entire ship. Said they couldn't source it. Annoyingly, they wouldn't let us have Asahi in the fridge, despite it being available in Kaiseiki.

Be warned, they have introduced that disgusting "royal club" tonic and soda's.

That's a dumbing down luxury step too far!

    Try 0207 340 0700

Thats one of the numbers I have and just re-tested to be sure. Seems to be working ok.

I've long since removed our landline and now mobile only. Calls to 0844/45 are not cheap especially when you know you'll probably get the voice message, attempt to connect and then eventually another message to call back or leave a message.

I get the impression SS would rather we book elsewhere.

Resurrecting this thread briefly to ask, as someone who will be taking their first SS cruise this Fall, where in all of these threads one can find a post showing a few typical 'Chronicles' for one of the newer SS ships.  Trying to get a sense of onboard activity on a typical day for Dawn.  My searches thus far haven't turned up any of them, but am sure that those who frequent the SS forum may recall where they might have seen them.

I am on the Aug 27th sailing. I booked direct with SS, my first SS cruise, then transferred to a TA in North America. After I booked, my itinerary “disappeared” from SS website.  It caused months of worry.  Then it reappeared waitlisted.  Some relief until through my persistent digging I found the UK company who had chartered the ship. I reached out to them, incognito, and was told I could only book through them.  Well, not true since I have booked direct and have yet to be bumped.  I have my air confirmed as well, so we will be on the ship.  Now, I (through my TA) have asked SS to compensate us or at the very least get us into the advertised enhanced entertainment program.  They have said clearly “no can do”.  So after this upcoming cruise, I too will say NO to SS.  This will be my first and last cruise with them.

It seems very clear that SS have changed your cruise and should have been honest and offered the opportunity to cancel and be refunded. You are now on a charter and the company selling are saying that’s a fact.

I suspect you were under the impression you were on a really popular cruise that had sold out.

I’ve seen the price this 12 night cruise is selling for (@ £2999). Would I be correct in saying your cruise cost far more? Sorry but the responses you’ve had seems dishonest and morally wrong.

Not quite a "full charter" since I am on that sailing, traveling solo, paying full price. I had an awful experience with my husband on a river cruise where about 90% of the passengers were one group. Granted a smaller ship, but I think full disclosure would be lovely if I am to spend 14 days with a charter group. Will Dawn become the "party ship"?

    Hopefully not.

I’ve no idea what percentage on my sailing was with this agent, but the disproportionate number of Brits on this Caribbean cruise suggests the numbers were quite high and as mentioned it was wait listed months beforehand.

On my sailing, I didn’t feel like the mix was remotely “us and them”. I did think there may have been a slight difference compared to other sailings with SS, but genuinely it caused no problems. That said, if this is the shape of things to come and more common, then it will affect things. Why book with SS or normal SS selling agent, when you can book the same cruise cut price. Slides and slippery spring to mind.

On a side note, I received an email today from the CEO asking for feedback on the ports of my cruise. (On top of the one done on the ship.) Unfortunately the IT gremlins were back again and the link within to fill out the requested info was a broken link so guess there won’t be too many responses!

In other words, no nefarious outsiders caused it – just internal incompetence.  Which is worse???

Which time are you referring to or both times? We never got to the bottom of the last time despite the promises AFAIK. Taking privacy and secrecy seriously seems to apply more to the company than guests whose info has been spilled. Both are incompetence, but obviously being hacked poses more worrying implications. I'd like to think past guests wouldn't exploit this leak, but assumptions are not wise. God knows how long it was open before I spotted it!

Like I added in a previous post, that response was akin to move along nothing to see, which I couldnt disagree with more. Its a date breach pure and simple and is reportable.

Good lord - how hard can it be for them to terminate any active sessions on the database

Sure you can’t log in but it hasn’t kicked off existing sessions so data for other parties is still accessible

who is running Silversea IT? It’s amateur hour!

It's not just active sessions as I said above.

I opened a different web browser I dont use and it jumped me straight in. They've done something for sure, but not enough and details are still visible.

I agree.  And, while I don't know what the GDPR is, considering I can see all personally identifiable information along with full passport details of other people without even having the slightest technical acumen, certainly implies identify theft could occur.  I know here in the U.S. if someone else has our passport number we're supposed to alert the proper authorities, namely the State Department.

Full address details, full passport details... just needed CC details for the full set (which luckily are not stored there.) Luckily no one knows when you are out of the country and house empty........ oh wait!!!! 😨

I'm still able to access, albeit more restricted and many clickables are now page not found. But just in the past 2 minutes, I can still see addresses, though passport details have now gone thankfully.
