We have previously sailed with Golden Eagle. I phoned them and found out they have a contract with the cruise lines which prohibits them from booking directly with cruise passengers. You can only sail with them if you book through the cruise line or you book and they don't find out you are a cruise passenger. So, we looked into Eagle Tours. It gets great reviews, goes by Maho Beach (not stopping at the beach) but it hangs out around the area to see the planes, and yes, we have done that a couple times and it's exhilarating. The excursion also has a couple other stops including lunch. We are going to book this. I hope this helps!

So have you been to Maho on a boat and had the planes pass over head? For someone that has never been and it's on my husband's list of things to experience would you say just go to Maho beach because it's a much better experience (for the planes) then from a boat or do you think they are pretty similar?  I really want to experience more of the island then just the planes at Maho, which I expect to be very crowded with us having like 5 ships in port that day.  My husband said he thinks from the boat will be fine.

Golden Eagle is nice. Mira Bella is nice. We’ve done both and had a great time on both Mirabella has a little slide (very little, but fun) on it.

I was looking at Golden Eagle's tour. It says it has a stop at Maho beach to try and see the planes.  Did your tour make a stop? Did you see the planes? Could you go ashore or was it just stop in the water and no one could get out?  My husband really wants to see the planes from the beach and I really want a nice catamaran/snorkel excursion.

  3. We are sailing on the Horizon next month and we love going to the movies.  Does the IMAX theater show new releases?  What about movies released that week?  There are a few movies coming out in the next month that we want to see but think it would be cool if it was onboard.  Is there a way to find out the movies that will be in IMAX?

We are thinking about booking a couples massage on the Liberty. I know that the couples massage suite has a whirlpool in it. When we've done these in land-based spas, they usually let you soak in the whirlpool for awhile, then do the massage. Is that how it works on the ship? I'm also confused a bit by the times. For instance, is a 50-minute massage just the massage itself, or does that include the whirlpool time as well? Would like to hear from anyone who has done one on what your experience was like. Thanks!

I think your answer would be here.

Have done several couples massages on different ships and don’t recall seeing a whirlpool in the treatment rooms.  They have them in the spa that you could use before or after.

How would you one know this?  Do they send something to your cabin and it says it there? We will be on the Horizon next month.  My husband and I booked a couples massage and we each booked a facial.  I didn't see anywhere online that you can use the whirlpool.  Thanks for any info.

All the boat tours take you to the SE coast so the snorkeling is all in the same area.

Jan to March can be windy, the last few weeks here have seen some very wet and windy days, not ideal for snorkeling.

Take a taxi to Cockleshell beach and snorkel there or go to Friars Bay. Both areas have reefs you can snorkel. You can rent gear at Reggae Beach Bar on Cockleshell and at Shipwreck bar on Friars.

That way you can change your plans if the weather is not so good.

Thank you! This is what we are going to do.  Do both beaches have chair and umbrella rentals?  What about food, drink, and rest rooms?

  7. We have a reservation at Bonsai Teppanyaki on the Horizon in February.  Is there a kids menu available or can my son order something from the MDR to be served at Bonsai Teppanyaki?  My son tends to get an upset stomach from Asian cuisine.  He will enjoy the show and the cost is not a problem but I am wondering if we should feed him first.  Thanks.

No. I had to apply it to a future cruise.

Do you happen to remember the rules of the cruise credit?  When is the 24 months valid? Date you originally booked deposit?  Also, is it that you have to use the credit within 24 months for say a deposit but could cruise after the 24 months or does the cruise have to be completed with in 24 months?

  9. My brother is getting married on the Epic February 2020.  My sister is currently pregnant and the baby is due in July.  The baby will be 7 months at time of sailing.  It looks like the baby will cost the same as any 3rd guest in a cabin.  NCL is currently running 3 & 4 guest free on our sailing.  Is there a way to book the baby? It seems like it will be a no since there is no name or birthdate yet, but asking just in case.  What is NCL name change policy?

Surely since it’s your sister, that even if the credit went to her she would just turn around and make it right,,, right?

Yes my sister will pay me for her deposit.  It's more that the cruise credit in her name will go to waste.  I know you get 24 months to use it, but we already have a cruise booked for 2020 and it isn't with Carnival.  So just trying to see if there is a way for her not to lose money.

  11. We had 3 cabins booked for February.  My sister had to cancel because she got pregnant and didn't want to risk anything with Zika.  I booked her cabin and used my credit card for the deposit.  I later switched the deposit to Carnival Gift Card.  I booked Early saver rate and cancelled before pay in full.  On Carnvial's website it says the person who paid for the deposit will be issued the cruise credit.  Is there anything to prove who used the gift card? From Carnival's site;

Does Early Saver follow Carnival’s standard deposit, payment and cancellation terms?

    • The deposit and payment terms are the same. Guests who cancel prior to the final payment date will receive a future cruise credit in the amount of the deposit received less a $50 USD service fee per person.
    • Future cruise credits are issued in the name of the original payee, regardless of whether they were ever booked in the cancelled reservation. For bookings paid with a travel agency credit card or check, the cruise credit will then be issued in the name of the cancelled guest.
    • The future cruise credit can only be redeemed on bookings made in USD currency, will be applied to guests’ cruise fare, is non-refundable, non-transferable and any unused portion will be forfeited.

did you all book through Carnival?  Wondering if this would work if I booked through Costco or other Travel Agent?

It shouldn't make a difference.  The rules just said a reservation on one of those cruise lines.  Didn't mention who you booked it through.

Unfortunately it does not work with Costco.  Costco does not except AMEX as payment.  I even asked if I could call Carnival directly and make my payment and was told by Costco that Carnival would make me call my TA to pay.  If you have not booked your cruise yet you could book through Carnival's website using the AMEX and then transfer the booking to Costco's.

  13. We went on a Carnival cruise last April and paid using Carnival Gift Cards from AARP.  We also put gift cards on our on board expense account for on board spending.  There was a way to add funds to use in the casino and then cash out the account.  Is this still available?  I bought enough gift cards to cover my sister's cabin and she had to cancel for our Feb cruise.  Needless to say I have $2000+ in gift cards.  Any help would be great.

  14. I have been trying to use the search option but can not seem to get good results.  On the old site I remember reading a post about which cabins would have the noise on deck 2 of the Vista/Horizon.  Some one posted a picture of deck 2 plans showing which cabins would be considered safe from the noise.  I can't find this post.  Does any one remember the cabins? Remember the post? The one who posted it?  Anything would help at this point!
