  1. We are a family of 4 considering sailing on the Epic in December 2019 out of Puerto Rico. There are no available cabins for 4 except suites and we do not want to spend that kind of money. The 7 day cruise is port intensive with only one sea day. My inlaws will also be joining us, so a total of 6 people. I thought about booking a cabin of 3 for us and a cabin of 3 for my inlaws with the hope that we could switch to a cabin of 4 if someone cancels. When I price out a cabin of 4 a different week (with similar fares to our week) a balcony cabin for 4 would be around $4000. However I stated looking at photos of the cabins and noticed the weird couch bed and then the 4th bed right in the middle. I do not like the look of this so now I am considering 2 cabins for our family of 4. My boys will be newly 11 and almost 10. To date we have always shared a cabin since they are currently 9 and 8. Would you book a balcony and an inside or 2 balconies? The price for a balcony and inside right across is $4200 and for two balconies is $4900. But an extra perk for the balcony. Can I book my 2 kids by themselves or does it need to be an adult and kid in each room? My thought here is could I book my balcony with the drink and Dining and then their room with wifi and dining and my husband and I would both have the drink package? Also I like the thought of opening the divider to both balconies and having a larger balcony. Do all the balcony dividers open on the Epic? At this time there are also no connecting rooms left.

    Questions I need help with....

    1. Do all the dividers on balconies open?

    2. Thoughts on 2 balconies vs a balcony and an inside

    3. When I book do I have to book my husband and a child and me and a child. How does this work with the drinking package since my sons don't need it.

    4. Should I worry so much about having the boys across the hall?

  2. Tendering to the port usually takes about 20 minutes, but it takes about 20 minutes to fill up the boats, too, then unload. Expect at least a half hour from the moment you get on to getting off.

As far was waiting in line, don't do that. You will be standing in a long line that wraps around the entire floor (Deck 1 or Deck 2) for an hour at least. Just wait, if you don't have an excursion rushing you. The boats hold at least 200-300 people each, and they will have at least 2 filling up at all times, then another pulls up immediately after one leaves. It will go like that for a couple of hours at least.

If you have a Carnival excursion you will meet in the theatre, as stated on your tickets, and will be lead to a tender together. If you DO NOT have a Carnival excursion, but an independent excursion, you will find out from Guest Services where to meet to get a tender ticket to get you on an earlier one. The other people, standing in the long long lines down the hall will go last.

    Just a heads up....

Thanks for the info. We do have a private tour booked and hoping to get off ASAP. We will be there early for a ticket.

  3. What was the cost per person for Bay Island Adventures? It sounds amazing!

I sent them a FB message and the reply was the 5.5 hour tour is $120 plus tax for adults and $90 for children. This is the tour with 2 snorkel stops and steak and lobster lunch. They also have a 4.5 hour tour for $100 plus tax adult and $85 child that stops at 4 snorkel sites and includes an island lunch. We are looking into them for our April cruise. Its between them and Radical Adventures.

  4. You have a beautiful family. Sorry to hear about your phone.

We are sailing on the Magic in April. Our first time on Carnival. Do you happen to remember if the ship always stayed on ship time (FL time)? I called Carnival and received different answers from different agents. One said if the advertised port time in Belize is 8-5pm that is the time we will be in Belize. But the fun times say to stay on ship time which would be 6-3pm local time. Thanks for any help.

  5. I am struggling with this right now. We have him booked for July 9th on Carnival out of Port Canaveral. It says we are there from 8-5 but I have heard that Carnival stays on ship time which means local time will be from 6am-3pm? The first ferry local time is 8am and if we did his half day tour we would have to take the 1:30 ferry to make it back by the last tender. We always do excursions on our own but this one just has me thinking its too rushed to be worth it?? plus with the half day we don't see Hol Chan even though Ive hear the half day is great without it. Soo conflicted!!

Do you remember what time you were in Belize? Ship time 8am-5pm, was that 6am-3pm Belize time?

  6. We went with Bay Island Adventures and had an AWESOME time! It was the highlight of our cruise!!! We did the 3 stop snorkel tour, steak & lobster lunch with open bar (beer, mimosas, rum punch, vodka). I was disappointed that we didn't get Captain Ray, but the crew for the day was fun and awesome! After the snorkel trip they took us to see the monkeys & sloths. We would book with Bay Island again in a heartbeat! Hope this helps someone on the fence.

Thanks for following up. I am going to look into them now for our April cruise. Was hoping for a catamaran but this sounds great.

  7. Rooms that you already had? Did they open?

I'm praying that this thing is pretty accurate because we are counting on them being able to open. The last cruise they said they couldn't open them and basically ruined our "normal" cruising experience for my friend - she was not a happy camper :-)

No rooms we will have in April. Sorry I can't be more help.

  8. We will be in Belize from 8 am to 5 pm in April. Is Caye Caulker feasible on our own? I have the water taxi schedule. Is the taxi within safe walking distance? Can we take a taxi to the water taxi?

    Thanks for any help

We will also be making a stop in Belize in April on the Carnival Magic and our port time is 8am-5pm. Not sure if you are on Carnival but they stay on Florida time. I have done a ton of research on this and local time will be 6am-3pm. You might want to double check all your water taxi times to this. We wanted to do the Hol Chan and shark alley tour and were told be the company we will not have enough time because the tour is 5.5 hours and starts at 9am local time. Our last tender is 4:15 ship time so 2:15 local time. We are now looking into booking a private tour so it can start at 8am local. Good luck!

  9. My wife and I will be visiting Roatan in January for the first time. I want to take a boat snorkeling excursion and it looks like there are a lot of options. I want something that includes transportation from Mahogany Bay. Beach time is nice but not necessary; the same goes for food and drink options.

    So here are some questions:

    • How does the snorkeling compare on different sides of the island? Is one side preferable to another?
    • Have you used any of the shore excursioneer site's snorkel options, and if so, which one? Would you recommend it?
    • I'm considering this three-site snorkel excursion on the south side of the island. Has anyone taken this trip or visited the locations (French Cay marine park, Coco view reef wall, Prince Albert shipwreck or Big French Cay)? If so, what'd you think?

Can you tell me what you picked? Snorkel boat tour or West Bay? Trying to pick for our April cruise.

  10. If you are snorkeling, you HAVE to do it in Belize! I don't remember the name of the excursion but it is the one that stops in Caye Caulker for lunch and includes feeding the sharks and rays. It was, hands down, the best snorkeling we have ever done! The sharks and rays were awesome too!

Did you do this through the ship or private excursion? We are planning to do this on our April cruise on the Magic and I have been debating to go with the cruise or private company. Glad to hear you loved it.

  11. Hi, I know this is an old post of yours but I'm struggling with the same issue for my Carnival cruise this week. Did your cruise end up being Florida time leaving you with 6AM-3PM at Belize? What did you end up doing for the excursion?

Can you tell me if you took this excursion and how it worked out? Did you feel you had enough time to enjoy it? I have researched the ship time vs local time and figured out we will actually be in Belize from 6am-3pm local time. Thanks for any help.

  12. We will have a rental car from MCO-PC. We are a party of 6 with a bit of luggage (my in laws always over pack). We were thinking of dropping off 5 of us at the port with the luggage and then having my husband return the rental and take the shuttle back. I am figuring it will be easier for one person with no luggage to jump on a shuttle to the port vs 6 people with luggage.

Also, we are planning on getting a one way rental for the return as well. Our flight out of MCO isn't until 8pm. How is the rental car shuttle service at Port Canaveral. Is there good instruction on were to catch the shuttle? Is there any way for my husband to go get the rental and come back to pick us all up at the port?
