  1. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda 62 this AM and reaching a high of 82 Good selection of days as is the quote Pass on the buffalo but never the buffet We have been to Taormina, did a great walking tour of the whole town including the Greek theatre Packing and moving is pure torture Heading off for my twice a week bike ride Have a great day and stay well
  2. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda 63 right now heading up to 81 this afternoon Interesting days, I’d like to try a cream cheese brownie The quote is also interesting My sister makes a great green bean casserole Never really been to Japan unless you count a rest stop on my way to Vietnam in 1967 Have a great day and stay well
  3. Right now it’s more than minor irritants with HAL.
  4. You didn’t bother to post my whole thread but yes when you’re use to evening turndown service for 44 years of cruising with chocolates on the pillow then all of a sudden it’s one thing after another that is being taken away from us then it’s good bye HAL, we will stick with Celebrity and Princess.
  5. You can make light of it but we also think HAL has issues, we are 4 Star Mariners and HAL has had just too many cutbacks with service, entertainment and dining. Our last cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam was horrible, one morning I had scrambled eggs that were frozen, they rationed out butter like it was gold, I like lox and bagels for breakfast and the lox was gray instead of pink and tasted like it was tainted, I complained to the head waiter in the Lido had brought me some nice and pink fresh lox but the next day it was back to gray so I just gave up. Meals in the MDR were so so but I did have some pretty good Dover sole one night but the portion was a joke, 3 bites and done. Entertainment on HAL is a joke with hardly any shows in the main showroom, now they’ve cut out Lincoln Center and I heard BJ Kings is being phased out. Since the pandemic sort of ended we have sailed 10 times on HAL, Princess and Celebrity, HAL is the only line that cut out evening turndown service so we are done with HAL after many wonderful cruises with them, it’s too bad but they have lost us as loyal passengers. As far as gratuities, we have never lowered or withdrawn them but the last 2 cruises with HAL we didn’t reward anyone with any extra cash gratuities during or on the last day of the cruise.
  6. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda 60 degrees right now with a nice and sunny 79 later in the day I love to ride my bike but not when it’s windy or wintry which in Florida is any temperature below 60 I love lox and bagels Good quote To me chicken and beans is not a good mix 8AM tee time today Have a great day and stay well
  7. Will see what my body feels like, the cold mornings this year haven’t helped, I really have a hard time getting loose especially yesterday as I hadn’t played in 6 days because of rain outs. Here’s hoping you can still play at 86 and beyond. We have a Mens Member Golf Association and we have one guy who turns 90 in July and 2 others who are 85, one of the 85s stills smokes and like a chimney.
  8. Feb 12, also Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday, it was nice growing up in Chicago as the schools were closed and always had my birthday off.
  9. I hear you about the arthritis, I turn 78 in a few days and I hope I can get in 2 more years of golf, started playing golf in 1960 and along with 30 years of tennis my body can’t take much more, 80 will be a good number to quit with 66 years playing a game that I love.
  10. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda 54 this morning and 77 this afternoon, 3 straight days coming up in the 80s starting tomorrow Good selection of days, I spent some early years in the Cub and Boy Scouts, I have some nice memories from those days I also like the quote as well as Hungarian Goulash We’ve been to Messina and Taormina in Sicily but not Catania Pollen counts have been very high in SW Florida and my allergies are acting up, sneezing and coughing more than usual DW will have the stitches removed today after her sprinkler tripping event last week Have a great day and stay well
  11. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda A cool 50 heading up to 73 with a gradual warming trend in the next few days, low 80s on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I won’t be celebrating any of the days especially ballet day A strange quote by one of my favorite Greeks I’ll give the acorn squash soup a try We’ve been to St. Thomas over 35 times on cruises and it’s still my favorite Caribbean port We’ve been packing the the last few days as we are moving a little bit west and north to Port Charlotte after returning from our Celebrity Equinox cruise which is from the 15th to the 24th Off to the course in a few minutes Have a great day and stay well
  12. Yep, we will stick with the Equinox, 6 cruises on her and never an issue.
  13. I have had that happen on numerous cruise lines.
  14. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda Another cool day, 52 right now reaching a high of 70 with sunny skies and breezy Some strange days as is the quote I’ll pass on the meal I have never been a fan of King Charles but I’m hoping he wins his battle with cancer Have a great day and stay well
  15. Great photos, brings back memories from almost 50 years ago. I’m still fascinated by Montreal’s Subway as the train ran on rubber wheels in slots, much quieter than Chicago and New York.
  16. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda Another cool rainy El Niño morning, no golf today Silly quote I’m good with the meal We took a road trip from Chicago to Montreal and Quebec City in 1975, wonderful cities. Being from Chicago I admired Adlai Stevenson and when I was 10 years old my favorite uncle took me to the 1956 Democrat National Convention at Chicago’s International Amphitheater and we saw Mr. Stevenson’s nomination acceptance speech for President. He was a rare breed, he was an honest politician and he also was very good when he was the United States Ambassador to the United Nations in JFK’s administration I also happened to see JFK speak at Chicago Stadium 4 days before the 1960 election as part of Mayor Daley’s Torch Light Parade from Downtown to the Stadium I also shook hands with Richard Nixon at Disneyworld in 1984, enough politics Have a great day and stay well
  17. Looks to me for some reason HAL port charges in the Caribbean are higher than Celebrity and Princess, why would that be. For instance we are sailing Feb 15 on a 9 day cruise to Grand Cayman and the ABC islands, port charges are 129.00 per person. We are also on the Sky Princess for a 7 day cruise in May and port charges are 180.00 each. A 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise with HAL in December is 225.00 each, something smells.
  18. On another note, don’t you live in Newcastle? I started watching Vera and I think it takes place in your neck of the woods, so far a good show but Vera is quite a character, haven’t figured out yet if I like her as a person, she’s a little rough around the edges.
  19. So sorry for the passing of Julia and hope Paul pulls through.
  20. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda 66 right now heading up to 75 but quite a bit of rain coming today and again tomorrow, looks like I won’t be playing golf on Monday. Doesn’t look good either for the final round of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am out in California, they’re going to get pounded with tons of rain and probably some flooding. I know some jerks but I wouldn’t call them significant Interesting quote I’ll pass on the meal Wordle was tough today but I prevailed and got it on the last try, still undefeated at 31-0. Have a great day and stay well
  21. Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda Low 50s right now, 73 this afternoon Just returned from our favorite diner where I had a nice Western Omelette Good quote but ugh on the days We’ve been to Seattle and Puget Sound I ordered Beef Stroganoff on our Sky Princess cruise this past December and it was very good Have a great day and stay well
  22. I was stationed at Gettysburg Air Force Radar Station in South Dakota in 1966 and early 1967, some of our guys had personal rifles and as a favor to local farmers they would drive out to some of the fields and shoot the gophers or prairie dogs as the gophers harmed the crops.
