Today we arrived in Tenerife.   First land in six days.   We loved every sea day.

We eat nearly all lunches and dinners in the Grand Dining Room.   Food has really been wonderful and the service warm and professional.   Never a wait for a table for two.

Just when we thought the production cast had given us their all they knocked our socks off with another superb show.   Last night was “Acoustic Sounds” at take on MTV unplugged. The Sirena Band, String Quartet and the cast all occupied the dance floor for a great show.   We continue to be amazed.   😊

Our our trivia team took second place yesterday.

I spoke with Jennie the Oceania Club Ambassador.   Itinerary release for the rest of 2025 has been postponed until September.   She had reported during her talk that it would be April.   Allura itineraries will be released in August.

CD Gary had announced that Country Fair was only offered on crossings, but it would make sense to have it on itineraries with multiple contiguous sea days.

We are off today with a private guide to explore Mt. Tiede and La Laguna with five other Sirena cruisers.

Life continues to be wonderful on Sirena.

    Joe with Jeff in tow

    Congrats on your Trivia win!!

    • Thanks 1
  3. susie...I seem to remember that you had a passport problem on the O board? I've run into a problem and wondered if you could help me? On the government website it shows the wrong date of receipt of the renewal application...the date showing is 18 days after they cashed my check. I'm having no luck with the offered phone #..always busy..or call back at another time. Could you/would you email me so I could ask you who you ended up using to get help? Thank you! LuAnn

Another fine day on Sirena.   Captain and Staff Captain held a very informative Q&A this morning.   Our trivia team scored another perfect game. 🏆   Oceania Club party was today.   There are 386 repeat guests out of the approximate 450 onboard.   Most cruised guest has 405 days onboard Oceania.

Sticky Buns were an epic FAIL this morning.   They looked good, there was some syrupy goodness in the bottom of the pan.   When I went to slice into it, the knife came to a halt 2/3 the way through.   More elbow power, still no movement.   I turned the bun over and what should be ooey gooey goodness had formed a hard candy layer.  It resonated when tapped with my spoon.   Needless to say not even a bite of Sticky Bun today.   I could have broken a tooth.  😢

Even with that, life is still very good on Sirena.

    Joe

Maybe take that bun to the Head Chef and have him take a bite!!! 🙂 🙂

Did NOT see any animals on Riviera (12/13-23/2021) or Sirena (11/18-28/2022).

I wish cruise ships had a resident feline for good luck!

While on Sirena, did talk a lot about the pet tortoise one of the young singers had to leave ashore for her contract. She had pictures of it growing up, going from tiny to huge! We all wished she could've brought it on board.

Capt Kate on Celebrity always has her cat on board..and is quite the celebrity!!

Traditionally a fleece was made of sheep’s wool, these days they’re synthetic made from recycled plastics. You can get them in all sorts of weights and styles from super light layers to big chunky styles. Here are a few women’s styles we have in the shop right now. The first one is water resistant, the second feels like velvet, the third is a light layer and the fourth is a light full zip, there’s a huge variety these days. The 3 in 1 jackets from the north face or Columbia can have a full zip fleece as the detachable inner layer or a puffer jacket inner layer depending on the style.  I’m bringing a Columbia one with a fleece inner with me for Alaska.

First let me offer my sincere condolences to you & your family for your husband.

I went on the Level site directly to book. I'm not aware if miles can be transferred Chase/Iberia/Level. The Premium Economy service was very comfortable & got the job done. I'm considering for my next Viking out of Barcelona(Viking Sky, November 2023) of flying Iberia to Madrid, then taking the first class high speed train to Barcelona.

Thank you. It has just been one year the beginning of this month so still adjusting. Sorry..one more question..is the "level site" within the Iberia site itself or separate? I'm not sure that Premium Economy can be booked with miles? I have friends who live in Germany who are coming to meet up with me in BCN next April and they are using the train from Cologne. He sent me a U Tube video and it looked fabulous. I've been on 1 fast train ride in Europe and it was certainly nothing like anything in the US!! I think you'd really enjoy it!!

@eileeshb, everyone wears fleece (or at least owns some fleece outerwear) in Seattle / Pacific Northwest.  When it's cold and wet, it just added that extra layer that helps keep your body warn, and your skin dry.

Are you talking about a coat lined with fleece or ?

Pier 30/32 is in between two Muni Metro Stations; couple of blocks north, past the Bay Bridge is the Folsom Station, couple of blocks south is the Brannan Station https://www.transit.wiki/Pier_30/32

Board the front car, tell the train operator you want to take the F Line to Fisherman's Wharf and they'll call out the stop. Be sure to get a transfer so you won't have to pay again getting on the F Line.

For cheap burgers & cheap beers with a million dollar view, Red's Java Hut. Best dive burger joint in the city. Don't ask for lettuce or any other greens (except peppers n'pickles), they don't have that kind of stuff there. Full bar in the back.

Sounds like a fun "joint". Where is it located?

Bear in mind the Spa pool is not available to Club Continental suite guests on every Azamara ship. You need to check up the rules on the individual ships. (It used to be available on all when there were just three ships)

Having different rules for different ships doesn't seem like such a great idea? Do you know why this decision was made? Thanks!!

We are looking into car rental from San Pedro to SNA for our cruise next month. There is an Enterprise Car Rental that runs a shuttle to it's office not far from the port. Prices for a standard vehicle were less than $100 on Costco Travel. We liked the flexibility and the price not being much more than an Uber for 3 of us.

Do check to be sure that office is open on the day you need to book...in the past they were not open on Sundays!!

It varies from ship to ship, tapas were from 4.30 on Onward in November and afternoon tea was not available every day (we went up one day hoping) but sandwiches were available from 1 if I remember.  The trouble for your spreadsheet is maybe now its not possible to go into detail and you have to tell people to look in their Insider for some things as the ships are now all doing their own thing and you do not have a consistent product

So this is a new change from the new owners? Each ship is allowed to handle some things differently?

If you should choose to do your air independently, I recommend the Iberia subsidiary Level. The only(I believe direct flights LAX-BCN). Flew Level in December to sail out of Barcelona for my Viking Neptune trans-Atlantic. The premium economy was very comfortable, food delicious, flights attendants cheerful & attentive. I always do independent air because I don't like cruise line air routing.

Do I find Level schedules then within the booking "engine" for Iberia?  I'd transfer my miles from Chase to Iberia? Sorry for all the questions...DH always handled booking the flights and he's cruising "the heavens" now.

Though IIRC the psychology research in this area does indicate that the "best" part of a vacation is actually that which precedes it. The anticipation. Just the way the human brain works, once it knows about a future vacation.

I've always really enjoyed all the pre cruise planning!! But actually stepping on the ship is great too. My first cruise post shut down I really felt like I was "home"!!! 🙂

Allow me to give what I did.  Let me say, my approach is not perfect.  It does come from four decades of flights domestic and international.  Hear was my approach:

    • I booked my Oceania Cruise Labor Day 2022.  My cruise will depart November 9, 2023.  Over a year later.
    • We fly into Athens, and out of Barcelona.
    • I went to my favorite Air Brand, Delta and looked at what was available.  The answer was "NOTHING".  Delta does not post their flights until 8 or 9 months prior to the flight.  Live and learn.
    • I then looked at all the other air brands to see when their flight schedule opened up.  Seemed to be similar.  This got me to my next approach.
    • What would it cost me in money or points/air miles to book the flights as far out as I can go.  I wanted to see: a) What if I flew from my home base vs. driving to Atlanta, GA; b) What was the flight schedules from a stand point of connections and wait time at the connected airports; c) Where their weird ways of booking the flights to save money even if I had to wait longer on a lay over or take another connection; d) How many points/airline miles would I need and did I have enough; e) If I booked fully refundable coach, how did that compare to the $1,000.00 discount I get from Oceania if I choose to do my own flights.
    • I did the same approach as above for other brands.  Please remember, I am retired, have time on my hands and this approach was part of my life prior to retirement.  I know this seems like over kill.
    • Before it is brought up, I also look at Oceania Cruise only fares however it was six of one, half a dozen of the other for my situation.
    • I went on YouTube.com and watched reviews of Different International Coach, Coach Premium Plus and Business Class.  I must admit I also watched some of the better brands First Class just because we all have to have goals.  It was fun.
    • I realized, Delta was my brand, not perfect but my brand.  It helps that Delta's largest hub was two hour drive time from my home.  I also realized that I could us "ALL" my miles saved for years and transfer some from my American Express Rewards Program to get a Delta ONE Business Class ticket round trip for my wife and I.  The second set of tickets was for the same itinerary for the friends joining us which was a fully refundable coach ticket incase they bugged out on use for this cruise.
    • I booked both sets of tickets at 12:01 AM the moment they became available.  For anyone that wants to approach things this way please remember.  You can only book the flight when your return becomes available.  Just the way it works.
    • I was pleasantly surprised we could all fly out of my home base rather then Atlanta for less money and points/miles.  Shocked me and glad I looked.
    • To get the lowest cost on both we fly in the day before arriving in the morning, 08:00 AM and Fly out the day after the cruise comes back.  An extra day in Athens and one in Spain.
    • The Very Best Itinerary was Birmingham, AL to Atlanta with an over two hour layover.  Atlanta to JFK with a four hour lay over.  JFK to Athens Direct.  Any flights late or delayed have flight after them so I felt the decisions were good.  On the way back we have a Direct Flight back to Atlanta and a connection to Birmingham.  Much better and less time.  Delta had no direct flights from Atlanta to Athens.
    • Since booking these flights I have check on how much it would cost me now.  The Fully Refundable fare would cost $500.00 per person more now.  The Business Class fare would cost over a half a million more miles/points.  Now you know why I planned it the way I did.

I have used cruise lines promotional airfare before.  It only took once to realize it was indeed a little less expensive and a lot more stressful.  There were surprises for me that I did not like.  No points received and cost for checked luggage.  No seats early and no corrections unless you paid a fee.  When taking everything into consideration, it was a no brainer to do it on my own and do the early due diligence so I have the information I needed to make a good business decision.

I hope this adds to this stream.

Cruise well and enjoy every moment.

Thanks for all this info!! When did you book the flight? And do I understand correctly that not only Delta but all the other airlines are not posting flights until 8 or 9 months out...no longer the 330 days? Delta would work best for me BCN to SAN..I could fly to Atlanta and then on to SD.

Something you might want to consider is United’s new route nonstop Chicago-O’Hare to Barcelona, starting in May.  It would be a simple connection from LAX.

We always book our own air. We don’t want the uncertainty of whatever O’s air would do.

Do you know when in May this route starts? Thanks!

We are joining the list of Celebrity refugees in this forum too. We are Elite with X and for the last few years only booked Sky Suites as we fell in love with the Retreat product. However X is now pricing their suites as if they were on Regent or Silver Seas.  Our current 4 upcoming Sky Suite cruises are currently 20-30% higher than when we booked over a year ago. The final straw was when we looked at a Sky Suite on the Equinox for a 14 night cruise from Santiago to Buenos Aires in 2025. The Sky Suite would cost about the same as an A2 Concierge class cabin on the Marina for 18 nights. It was a no brainer, we are now booked on our first O cruise and looking forward to a more premium experience. My sister and brother in law are also joining us on this cruise and another couple we met in our roll call for our September Apex cruise decided to join us as well.

I've thought for quite a while that X cruisers were paying too much for the "suite experience" and would be getting more value for their $$ with O. I'm sure you'll be glad you made the switch!
