  1. We really enjoy cove balconies.

The breeze and the sound is so wonderful that we really almost hate to leave the cabin.

We tried a cove and liked it so much that we booked a cove again.

And soon we will be have a cove for the third time.

All three times that we have been booked in a cove, we have received an upgrade offer from Carnival.

So that is something to think about.

However, we just laugh at the offers to upgrade us from a cove.

What I really would not want is a balcony right above that deck where people can walk around the ship.

I think that is deck 5 and the deck above, 6 I think, has balconies that have very little privacy

Oh, you might want to check You Tube for video of the view from a cove. John Heald recently shared one on his facebook page. I think it would make you feel a lot better about your assigned cabin.

  2. No Italian except the 24/7 pizza station :). You basically have buffet, Guy's Burgers, Guy's BBQ, Pasta Bar, Steak House, Coffee Shop, Pizza Station, Indian (India) Station, Burrito Station, MDRs (Coffee shop costs unless you have Cheers)

Tip you might already know, don't stop at the first section of the buffet as that is what everyone does and it gets packed, go to the back section of buffet near back of ship and most times have same stations but no lines. Also the one Station outside at back of boat(opposite side from Pizza) serves breakfast items along with doing Omelets and no one goes there so no line.

Pasta Bella was still there in March.

    Is it gone?

It is really good, to me anyway.

I don't like those cold burgers and fries they were serving.

    Or the dry skimpy pizza...

  3. I assume legionella needs water to survive. If all water is chlorinated, what's the problem with air jets?

Unlike noro, legionella isn't very common on ships?

I don't know about legionaires on ships, but a bunch of people got legionaires from the fancy new hotel at Graceland. And just yesterday I heard that a friend's mother is hospitalized with pneumonia which has turned out to be legionnaire's disease. She recently stayed in a hotel in North Carolina.

It seems to be more common than I had realized.

  4. I love Carnival, and have very few complaints. But this one thing: when they do not want to address a particular issue, there is deafening silence or a lot of conflicting information is disseminated.

On this matter, Carnival has not responded. One passenger on our cruise demanded a partial refund and received it (don't know the amount). As for me, I have not gotten any response other than what I mentioned in my beginning message for this thread.

To be clear, in regard to the Thalassotherapy pool, the two large faucets continued to pour out water, but there was no type of jets, bubbles, or agitation of the pool.

    Any first-hand experience from cruisers?

So, without movement of water it is like sitting in a bathtub?

I wonder about the hot tubs on deck.

  5. Somehow I think Carnival’s problem is with the Italian builds. The Finnish builds (Fantasy and Spirit classes) all have separate buffet stations and a much better passenger flow. I know Farcus designed the interiors but who was the naval architect? I’ve heard that Carnival is going back to Finland in a few years Hopefully that’ll help with these issues.

Biggest issue is with the cooked to order foods- Guys, Pizza etc. but we are those issues in other lines as well.

I cannot imagine why they thought it would be a good idea to put the salad bar into the hot food buffet.

  6. If I may ask, is there anything else besodes the water that made you regret Puerto Plata?

When we went to Puerta Plata it was 1982, so a while ago.

It was both beautiful and hideous.

I remember a sick looking child with sores all over him among the other children begging.

One needed a guide to keep the beggars off, but you would still be walking down the street and people would be following along. The guy we hired was not so good at keeping people off.

A man offered to sell us a baby. I have always hoped he was kidding.

About that time we headed back to the ship really fast.

  7. Sooo not comfortable with this either through CC or FB. I’ve seen some nice posts from nice people but I’ve seen mean/crazy posts from mean/crazy people. While I may like to meet a few of the nice ones, the mean/crazies ruin that idea. I am active on my FB pg because I only have real life friends on there that I have known for 30+ years and a couple of coworkers that I’ve known for 10+ years, and unless you are a friend of a friend, my page is inaccessible.

I dropped out of the media roll call for our upcoming cruise as it seemed to be infested with yucky people. Then when I checked the roll call on CC for this cruise there were 6 posts from the same couple wanting to meet people to eat with them and go on excursions with them. Over and over... Um, no thanks...

  8. The Order to get on the boat is:

    Diamond

    Platinum

    and then FFTF

Same way to get off the boat

    Diamond

    Platinum

    and then FFTF

In March we were excited to see there were no weddings as weddings take forever to board and they go first. There were premier people seated where they usually seat the wedding folks. The premier people were boarded before platinum/diamond.

John Heald said that it was not supposed to happen like that if it did happen.

    It did happen.

11:45 to 12:00 is about the average time to board. I try to be pulling into the parking garage at 10:30, but sometimes it is more like 11:00.

  9. Thanks everyone, I'll call the PVP #

I called that number and said that I was thinking about booking a cruise and asked a question.

I already knew the answer to the question,

but wanted to find someone who was well spoken and patient.

    I talked to three.

The first I had trouble understanding her diction.

    The second was impatient.

And the third one I went ahead and booked with and we have been working with her now for years.

  10. I had it last month on the Miracle. I wasn’t impressed - I could see other people weren’t as well (lots of pieces left at the tables).

Sometimes they overcook it and it comes out really dry and not good.

Sometimes there is almost no chocolate and sometimes there is way too much.

I recommended it to table mates, they all got it, and it was yuck that night.

    I don't recommend anything anymore.

But if you get a good one, then it is very good indeed.

  11. Royal cut Enchantment of the Sea in two and added a 73 foot section in 2005. Carnival was certainly not the first or the most radical.

NCL cut two in half and added sections in the mid 90's. Wind became Windward and I forget the other one. I believe that NCL was first to do this type of remodel.

Royal did it to Song of Norway in 1978, but I don't know if she was first...probably not.

I believe Song of Norway was Royal's first build.

They were really proud of her and that she did not need tugs to dock.

But they did not change her name or call her new.

She went to the wreckers long ago.

Too small. It was a nice ship...

    :(

  12. When Sunshine was first rolled out, the Carnival website did have a banner proclaiming the ship as new. Now whether they were trying to make people think it was a new ship or if it was just a marketing gimmick, much like a decade old store having a grand opening after a major renovation, I can't say. All I know is that the website did promote the ship as new and shortly thereafter the banner was removed from the page.

Yes, I knew I remembered this.

    And yes, people were fooled.

I know someone asked me about the new Carnival ship.

I could take my house down to the studs, put on a new roof and redo everything, but I can't sell it as a new house.

  13. I don’t care what a ship is called as long as I enjoy being on it.

    Sorry, but who really cares?

These were his/her own words that I cut and pasted here.

Yeah, my post is rude, but I am making a point here.

Some of us are tired of rude for the sake of being rude.

    Seriously.
