  1. We had our first extended aft balcony this spring.

I really liked being able to have loungers on the balcony.

The one we had was on Triumph and there were two lounge chairs, two regular chairs and a small table.

And there was still plenty of room.

It worked out well in a strange way in that I got sick on the cruise and I was able to sleep in a lounge chair on the balcony when I felt too bad to sleep in the bed. The breeze and the sounds were what lulled me to sleep.

Sleeping out there when feeling well ould have been even more lovely.

  2. I have sailed Triumph three times, both before and after the incident.

The most recent was this April.

Actually I liked it better before the upgrades.

I was not too impressed with Blue Iguana and Guys.

So far Triumph is my favorite Carnival ship.

It is much like Conquest, but better, to me anyway.

I have done a many cruises on Carnival, so I believe that I have basis for comparison.

  3. Grits are similar to polenta. Essentially cooked cornmeal.

Grits are made from white corn or hominy.

They are not really thrilling on their own.

    It's a southern thing.

    I eat them with eggs.

Grits should not be too thick and should be very hot.

    Butter, salt and pepper.

Bite of egg, bite of grits.

    Good with runny yolks.

Sometimes folks make casseroles with cheese and stuff that are nice.

  4. Same here. When we travel I get all the passports, ID's, and BC needed to board at before we leave home and hang on to them myself with our boarding passes. I make sure we get on that ship. It is called taking responsibility.

    My husband does this too.

When we took friends and boyfriends everything they needed to board went in DH's butt bag that stayed on him until we were all boarded.

  5. Thanks y'all for the advice.

We decided to go ahead and move to c622.

This is a bucket list trip for us and the thought of spending it barfy made it seem like a good idea.

We've been all the way forward and aft for short cruises in the Caribbean and we often sail during hurricane season and have been okay so far, so hopefully our luck will change.:)

    Thanks again!

  6.

BUT why do Carnival Corp not recognise all sailings on their brands eg Cunard, P&O all as one loyalty club?

    Exactly.

We have booked our first Princess cruise and were just talking about how it would be nice if our Carnival status got us something.

    But no, nada, nothing.

  7. In Cozumel, Chankanaab or Paradise Beach.

Just get a cab and go.

    Super easy on your own.

You can also get a cab driver to take you around the island reasonably.

    The back side is pretty.

The cabs are well regulated with set prices and plentiful.

Maybe in St Thomas do a tour with

    Sonny Liston. Book online.

You ride in a festive truck.

He'll take you up on a big hill to see the view and get a banana drink.

You can choose a beach and he'll drop you off and pick you up later.

    It's fun.

  8. The guidelines state that you can order only one drink at a time, so you'd have to order the drink and then the have the waiter make a 2nd trip for the shot. But in actuality, we found the rules weren't so strictly enforced on our May British Isles cruise. DH likes Scotch on the rocks, and one shot doesn't make much of a drink. After a day or two, waiters were happy to bring him a double. Your experience may vary, of course. But if the waiters know you have the package, it's a lot less work for them to bring a double or a drink plus a shot in one trip. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Hmm, so I could order the shot and then request a margarita?

It is okay to let the shot sit until I have both?

  9. If you are lucky like we have on our TAs, it won't make any difference. You are looking at Carib deck exclusively? On the Caribbean Princess they are larger balconies and command a higher price. Usually, the closer to the center of the ship is best for reduced movement. That kicks the price even higher. Where you want to be depends on priorities, Motion? Price? balcony size(how much will you use the balcony on a TA)?

We were liking the Caribe balconies because they are large enough for two deck chairs.

I like aft cabins generally and forward is okay too, until I started reading about how rough it can be in the Atlantic in April.

It's really interesting planning a trip on new cruise line.

    Different names for everything.

Like learning a new language. :)

  10. We have booked Caribbean Princess for a TA on April 6.

We are new to Princess and have never done a TA, although it has bveen on our bucket list for a long time. :)

So, the cabin we currently are assigned is C635, but I am wondering if it is too far forward.

I have been all the way forward several times and in aft cabins several times, but in the Gulf and in the Caribbean.

Including being in the Gulf with Katrina.

According to what I have been reading a TA has the potential of being rougher than I have previously experienced.

We are thinking of moving more midship C622.

    What do you all think?

Worth the money to change, or stay put?

  11. I was on the Triumph about 18 months ago (2nd time on Triumph) and had a similar experience. I washed the shower and bathroom walls because they had brown streaks (I also thought it was stained until I wiped it with a clorox wipe). It was dirty, plain and simple. The walls in the cabin also looked as if they needed a good washing.

I wrote it off as a bad experience, I've cruised 3 other times with Carnival and am going again in September.

I am willing to sail Triumph again.

It was my favorite ship so far.

But if it is not clean the next time, then I will have to think about it.

I was wishing I had the supplies to clean that balcony because I would have done it.

They hosed it one day, but it was no cleaner.

The carpet should have been cleaned.

And the walls needed cleaning and probably painting.

When did Triumph come out of dry dock?

  12. Basically for the past eleven years things have been pretty clean on the Carnival ships I have sailed.

However, on the last cruise things were not as clean as in the past.

The balcony was wonderful, but it was not all that clean.

The carpet in the cabin was soiled with what seemed to be grime tracked in from the balcony.

I had noticed a brown spot on the wall in the bathroom and thought it must be a stain until one day when I picked up a wash cloth and wiped it off.

DH says men don't notice what I notice. He paid the steward extra to clean the balcony.

I think it is due to the stewards having more cabins to clean.

I also noticed that the area around the Blue Iguana area was icky, especially the area with the condiments.

This was on Triumph and was my third cruise on Triumph over ther years.

While old does not bother me, dirty does.

I'm an antique dealer amd I know the difference between dirt and patina. :)

  13. fresh cut pineapple :D

    Oh yeah!

I also enjoy the sectioned oranges aqnd grapefruit in the morning.

The oatmeal is also usually good.

Sometimes there is a thing called an apple something that is baked with apples and something like pastry cream inside. It looks kind of like a cake. Whatever it is I like it. Sometimes it is partially frozen, which is not a good thing.

  14. The pie is simply one option, with a different kind served each night. There are other choices. No one is forced to eat delicious pie.

As for simply warming up a pie, I'm not believing that rumor. I'll ask next cruise. Even if the pies are frozen, it is time consuming to bake them.

In the interest of facts, please provide the numbers of how much it costs Carnival in money and time for pies and ice cream versus bread pudding (perhaps made with stale bread) or Grand Marnier souffle. I have no idea what Grand Mariner souffle is.

First world problems. God Bless them. :p

    Really?

I am supposed to have access to Carnival's time and motion studies and food costs?

Oh, bitter and blanc is not made with stale bread.

And it contains a relatively substantial amount of dark chocolate and white chocolate.

And Grand Mariner souffle was one of Carnival's specialities until recently.

It is a souffle made in individual ramekins and served with a hot vanilla sauce.

It is made from eggs and flavored with Grand Mariner liquor.

Both of those deserts, which were previously common on Carnival menus, are more labor internsive than pie.

Ever heard the saying "As easy as pie"?

    Well, there you are...
