  1. Don't listen to the people telling you to stay on the ship in Progreso. There are several mayan ruins excursions you can go on. You can go to Merida which is a city of 1million and just a half hour away. There are all-inclusive beaches and there is a free beach just a couple blocks from where the free shuttle drops you off. Check out the autoprogreso website. They are the ones who provide the free shuttle.

    I agree.

We have done a bunch of stuff in Progreso.

Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Dzibilchaltum, Merida, Went to see the salt pools, flamingos and a resort.

The only one we booked through Carnival was Chichen Itza.

Plus we have ridden the two dollar, three dollar, however much it is now bus.

Sat on the beach and went to the flea market.

  2. I never have understood those lamps that look like pencils.

Perhaps they are meant to represent something nautical, but I don't know what.

I have had one that was soiled and I do notice things like that.

Hopefully they were not expensive because they look cheap.

And it would be an obviously inexpensive way to upgrade the décor.

The phone charger is of no interest to me, but I can see how it would be to some.

  3. we do think this way! Four times now, we've gone to gsm and booked the next leg on the second to last night. It's been tba each time. Managed to get a pretty good cabin three times. Last time we pulled this, we ended up going to cuba, last minute. What a thrill! Won't tell what cabin we ended up in because of a cancellation. :d

    gsm?

    Tba?

  4. I know we're on the Carnival Board, but that's why we did the Navigator of the Seas this past January.

That being said, we're back with Carnival this summer. It's the whole family and our son would be very sad without the 24 hour a day ice cream!

Naturally, ice cream is definitely better than Aruba.

  5. If I get off the ship I will have a credit card and my passport.

I don't understand why a person would have a passport to prove their identity in a foreign country and then lock up that passport where they have no access to it while they are in a foreign country.

I would not want to be detained in another country and even less would I want my kid detained in another country without proper identification.

What if your kid is accused of shoplifting or matches the description of someone who did something and the also has no proper id?

I am thinking that police anywhere would not be too impressed by a library card or a school id as proper identification.

A sixteen year old boy may be seen as a man.

It is just too old to be unprepared.

My twenty year old daughter was left on the dock in Nassau.

It was not something we thought would happen.

The ship did not wait even one minute.

    Scary things can happen fast.

But she did have a credit card and her passport.

Stuff happens that we do not expect.

    Seriously.

    Be careful and be prepared.

  6. It looks like a slice of neapolitan ice cream with a bit of plain cake on the bottom and a bit of meringue on the top.

It is nothing like the photo linked to above.

It is okay, but nothing special unless you really really like tri-color ice cream slices. Seriously.

  7. I booked a connecting cabin on our upcoming cruise because it was one of the last cove cabins left that was not under the galley but did change it when another came open. Would prefer a non-connecting cabin if possible but not going to not choose it if it is the only one left in a location I want.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    This is exactly our situation.

The cabin I wanted was for three and since we are only two we were not allowed to book it.

All that was left were cabins that connect.

We did not want to be connected to strangers...

  8. A newbie question here... what is with feet swelling?

Is it from walking a lot and non-supportive shoes?

    Or is it something else?

I have issues with ankle swelling when wearing bad shoes, does being on ship intensify this?

Bad shoes are not going on the cruise. I have some Orthoheels I bought for the trip.

It is the walking and the heat, but mostly the salt.

I don't eat the soup or anything that I know is salty.

    And drink lots of water.

    It helps.

  9. Where do you want to sail from?

And do you want inside or a balcony?

If I was sailing out of New Orleans in a balcony cabin, then I would want Dream.

However, if I was doing and inside I would want Triumph.

Triumph has better places to sit outside.

Fantasy out of Mobile has a better serenity area.

It depends on what you want.

As for snorkeling there is usually at least one port on a cruise that has good snorkeling.

  10. I had one of their milkshakes once.

It was not all that great.

Not thick and not especially large.

Other than that, it would be interesting to offer a kid the do it yourself milkshake of ice cream and milk on lido and $4 to keep versus the $4 shake spot milkshake.

And then ask the child to explain his/her choice.

  11. So Eastern State Pen. I took this photo with a Canon Rebel XS, but had to reduce the size for upload. I'm not sure where I put the original size photo at. Anyway, I've always found something in this photo unique, but I'll let others be the judge. Just for context. The gated area, in front of the building, not to the side, was the prison garden, where inmates would work. It's almost easier to pick out if you zoom in, but I didn't want to blur the photo. Then again, could just be my imagination.........either way, its fun. 1929668_516286047088_7951455_n_zpsuhbtyact.jpg

    I see it.

    Very cool.

  12.

If you did not want to do the ruins in Progreso what else was available?

Perhaps take the autoprogreso tour to Merida?

You can book that tour with the lady in the little carnival shopping area.

They take you on a bus tour around the city, then drop you off at the "town square" area.

You can walk down the street and get some nachos and drinks.

Then meet back up for the ride back.

  13. We will rent a car and drop it off the night before the cruise. We are hoping we can find a hotel with shuttle service to the port.

Do you want to stay in the French Quarter or do you plan on driving somewhere else?

If you plan to have the French Quarter experience then you may not want a car.

If you want to visit the plantations along the River Road, then you may want to stay close to that area.

The problem with the shuttle service is that in New Orleans hotels may have you dropped off at the terminal, but they will not be picking you up.

  14. We have been on three Triumph cruises and if we go again I do not want the op's cabin.

On one a gentleman in a large family group sitting near us at dinner actually died during dinner.

It was interesting how they handled it.

It was on the upper level and those below were unaware anything was happening.

They still did the singing and dancing and napkin twirling downstairs.

    It seemed odd.

    And creepy really.

Kind of makes one wonder how much goes on during a cruise, or anywhere really, of which we are unaware.

  15. My mom and I were talking about going to The Myrtles one time for vacation. She loves that stuff too. I'll be bringing my Sony camera that records in infrared so we can do some ghost hunting of our own. Or maybe we can go on the Triumph. Hope you didn't scare her off!!

I have not experienced anything otherworldly on a cruise and I don't want to actually.

We visited The Myrtles on the way home from a cruise and found it beautiful and peaceful.

We laughed and joked about the ghost tour.

When we got home my daughter and I were loading the photos into the computer and looking at the ones we took at The Myrtles.

As we looked we joked and laughed as we pretended to find ghosts of kitties in the trees and birds and such.

When this picture came up we just sat and said nothing for a while.

    I took this myself.

I had it looked at by a girl with a degree in photography and she says it is a reflection.

    But a reflection of what.

It was an overcast day and behind the porch was a grassy area.

Notice that part of the reflection is in front of the porch railing and part is behind.

  16. Cruised on Dream last week and our cabin was the coolest we have had in a long time. We had a lido balcony forward and I never got hot, which is unusual for me. The air conditioning was working good on all parts of the ship. Maybe they cleaned the system during dry dock. By the way, we had a very good Meet and Mingle on this cruise. It was held at 1:30 on the first sea day and was attended by about 50 people. There were refreshments and the CD ( the Flying Scotsman) and the Entertainment Director were there and talked with us for about 30 minutes. I enjoyed it and meet several people.

We were on that same cruise and had a cove 2179. The air conditioning was perfect.

  17. We are traveling with people who would like us to go with them to Passion Island.

I have been reading reviews and they are so inconsistent that it does not even seem like people are describing the same place.

Some people describe an idyllic place with clean restrooms and good food and drinks.

    Some describe disgusting restrooms.

Others write of watered down drinks and long lines.

And some describe the food as really bad.

Some people describe an overly long slow ride on a "cattle boat".

Others describe being forced to stand in line to be photographed.

I have also read about being forced to listen to presentations begging for tips and descriptions of the poverty endured by their employees.

And apparently Passion Island is not really an island and is not actually all-inclusive.

I realize that people see things differently, but this is confusing us.

DH does not want to do this excursion now.

I would like for Passion Island to be wonderful so that we can go along with the others and keep the peace.

    What has been your experience?

Thanks in advance for your post!:)
