  1. I missed that since I was looking at the purple heart information at the time. I am just glad I stumbled across the information before arriving at the port.
  2. So it looks like my family is leaning toward one of the tours at Good Hope that included the river tubing and zipline. There are 2 different package, the Ultimate and Eco that have both. The Eco tour is cheaper and is missing the bamboo rafting, which no one minds missing, but also does not include lunch. Has anyone done either of these tours and have any insight? The teens would also like to play in the waterfalls, pool, and water slide but not sure on how much time we will have to just relax. If lunch isn't included, what are food prices like?
  3. At 8 and 10 we shared a balcony room with the kids. It was a tight fir and sometimes we were in each others way or rushing to get everyone showered and ready for dinner after a day at the beach. It wasn't awful and we all had a blast and everyone has asked me to schedule another trip like this again but school, work, COVID and we are just now getting the chance to go with a 13 and 15 year old. We have 2 connecting balcony rooms. The kids thought it was going to be the same as last time and would have been cool with it but are excited to have 2 rooms with 2 bathrooms available, though 13 wishes they didn't have to room with 15.
  4. I am so used to liquids being restricted, I wasn't thinking there was a difference and liquids can come onboard with us. I would rather it be in the carry on just to help prevent it from busting and become a sticky mess (even in a ziploc bag). I'll put it near the top to make a quick check easier at security if needed. Though it would be nice to hear they have it onboard but I can't think of any standard bar drink that would use it. We will bring a small bottle and restock in Mexico if needed.
  5. Chamoy is a liquid and shouldn't be a banned item but not sure it can go in a carry on. It is basically like a flavored syrup. Tajin is just a seasoning.
  6. So my kid wants to know if they can make a mangonada? So those who have cruised out of Galveston, would the bar have chamoy and tajin or should they pack it in their luggage to convert a mango daiquiri? Would chamoy be allowed?
  7. I think that is what we did. One of us went down first with the older kid (2 slides) and then the younger kid and other parent. After 2 times the 8 year old was good going up without us and we hung out at the bottom but of course that depends on your comfort level and the age of the kid. Now my kids are teens and my worries are completely different.
  8. I always see a lot of threads about favorite cocktails and other alcoholic beverages but what about the mocktails and other non-alcoholic options? What are your favorites for adults and kids? We have the refreshment package for everyone and would love to try new things.
  9. The rapid PCR should be fine. The ones we do at the hospital are just as accurate as the one that takes longer. It is a PCR test. The biggest difference will be cost. The rapid PCR tests cost more to run. If you are being charged, you will likely see a difference.
  10. I don't know requirements/limits for Voyager but the tube slides on Liberty my lightweight (at the time) 8 year old was fine alone. We didn't try to slide with them but we were allowed to walk them up the stairs and then slid down because we are too lazy to walk back down but some parents did that. I did see younger/smaller kids sliding but don't recall anyone coming down with a parent.
  11. Just a heads up since I stumbled across this change, there is no longer free port parking for disabled veterans and purple heart recipients. It is now a 15% discount. It would have been a surprise for us when we arrive to sail since it was free parking last time we were there. Apparently this changed in 2021(?) so I am sure it might still catch others by surprise. Of course this is stuff everyone should always verify before travel but honestly it was pretty low priority and something I might have forgotten to check before heading out.

  13. I have done a search and can't find anything recent, except for the larger ships. What are the activities for teens (13 & 15) on Liberty? I know they can come and go as they please and we will get the cruise planner onboard but I am trying to let them know what will be different. We have been on this ship before but they were younger (8 & 10) and had no interest in being dropped at the kids club and are thinking the teen club will be boring, but also they don't want to just hang with us on the ship anymore.
  14. If we have connecting balcony cabins will they still remove the divider on the balcony. We are on Liberty if it makes a difference. I know this was something they did years ago and hoping it is still a thing. If so how do we go about having this done? Also do we just let the room steward know we want the beds in one room separated into 2 or do we request this in advance?
  15. We will be stopping in Falmouth on our cruise. My family wants to go to Scotchies but also has mentioned a food tour if we can find one. What would be the best way to go about this? So far they just want to eat on this vacation. What are the best tour companies that are still in operation? Last time we did Scotchies and Blue Hole but I think my crew wants to skip Blue Hole or do something different, except going to Scotchies. Family consists of 2 adults and 2 teens (no ziplining or ropes courses).
  16. We don't like eating at the packed buffet and my teens want to go to The Spot. Kid 1 got food poisoning from buffet on day 1 last time and has already said no. We won't get to Galveston until late the night before and when we disembark we will need to start the 12 hour drive home. Our schedule doesn't allow for a lot of extra time this year. The Spot is a decent lunch before boarding and we don't generally unpack until after dinner anyway. For us less crowded at boarding is preferable to the rush of everyone trying to get on. Granted our last sailing was pre-COVID but I imagine most people are still going to crowd into the buffet and onto the Promenade early and spread out as the rooms open. Our biggest stress on day of is getting bags dropped and getting through check in. If we can drop bags at 9, we can cruise the island, grab lunch, and continue to relax once onboard. This seems like what will work best for us this time around.
  17. My kids were 9 and 11 on their first cruise. They were allowed to go get food from the buffet or other food places and come back to the room and a few other short trips. Also repeatedly going over to the splash area and water slides while we stayed on deck. I trust my kids but not really other people in a crowd. Now they are 13 and 15 and I will give them more freedom but it is still stick together and check in by text. Show up to get ready for dinner and in room/lights out by X time depending on next days plans etc. A lot depends on ship size and of course the kids plus parent comfort level. Honestly no matter what decision I make, someone is going to be annoyed/mad at some point.
  18. When my kids were that age we did a Christmas cruise and our day before was spent at Moody Gardens doing everything including the holiday stuff. My kids are now teens and still want to go to The Spot for lunch when we are in Galveston this fall. This time work schedules mean arriving in Galveston the night before the cruise and probably just going to the spot for lunch before we board. We skipped the pier other than looking based on prices for tickets but that is my kids. Moody Gardens we did get tickets that included the ropes course which the kids had a blast doing but they were mad I didn't pay for the zipline which I didn't realize was extra. If by some luck I get an extra day off work, we will go a day earlier and go to Moody Gardens again.
  19. We are cruising out of Galveston this fall on Liberty. If we pick a later boarding time, how early should we arrive and can we drop bags at the port early? Everyone is vaccinated and adults/teens. The teens have requested lunch at The Spot before boarding but I don't want us to be rushing when we arrive at the port. Ship departs at 4pm, so what would latest check in and arrival at port be and earliest to drop off luggage?
  20. So would a ship be included if you have international roaming for your cellphone plan? We live on the border so we have this as sometimes we pickup towers from a different country while driving or at work. I am not sure my local cellphone store would know anything about cruise ships since there is no ship ports near here. I will check with the company of course but if anyone knows, plus looking to maybe change companies soon.
  21. I will look into it. As of now kid is unsure if they want to get certified yet. I don't want to force them but I would love to have someone to dive with on vacations. It feels awkward to leave them behind and go diving alone during a family vacation.
  22. It may have been. It has been a few years since our last cruise. Our last vacation plans were for summer 2020 and we all know what happened then. Our next cruise is this fall.
  23. About $7 sounds right. If you really enjoy mocktails and want other drinks like lattes and sodas, look at the refreshment package. It might be a good deal for you. This is what we get because we won't drink enough alcoholic drinks to make up the price difference between the refreshment package and the deluxe. I do remember a mango mocktail that was good but can't remember what it was called. I usually tried the daily one because we had the package and if I didn't like it, it was no big deal. If I hadn't had the package, I would have stuck to my tried and true daiquiris and pina coladas.
  24. I know this has been asked time and time again but the pandemic has changed a lot of things and dive ops have closed. I will be in Cozumel October 4th from 7-4 (so 8-3ish). I will have a new junior diver with me so our depth would be slightly limited and I have not dove in Cozumel in over 15 years. I would like to find a dive op that can accommodate us and maybe do a drift dive to one of the walls. We will be limited to max depth for kid of 18m or 60ft. Looking for tips and recommendations and maybe even other people to book with in same situation.
