  1. There is a new app "Royal IQ" that works on the Harmony and other new ships. No Internet access is required and works only on the ship. We used it extensively last week on the Harmony. You create a signon and all of your reservations are available on your tablet or phone! It also has the Cruise Compass and texting capabilities while onboard with other app users on board. Even if you do not used a tablet or phone aboard, there are numerous tablet kiosks around the Harmony that you simply wave your sea pass or your WOW bracelet and your personal schedule is available within seconds. This was the most impressive improvement I encountered on the Harmony.

I for one did not like the old RCL app, much of what I needed/wanted to get to was either not available or not easy to find.

The Royal IQ App is only applicable to just a few ships.

  2. For us, the advantage is lower cost over buying drinks singly.

If you can make a drink package work for you, then that's the best way to go. We cannot keep up that level of drink consumption over the entire cruise, so the package usually does not make sense for us.

The drink card gives you 10 drinks for reduced price, which varies. I've seen it as low as $59 and as high as $89. Even at $89, it's less expensive than buying single drinks, unless you buy only beer. The card can also be shared, so if we can get it with at least two full days left in the cruise, it saves us money.

Thanks Bob. Always great logical answers.

I thought generally, that drink cards didn't show up until later in the cruise. When do they normally show up? So until they show up, you find it cheaper to purchase drinks?

Our biggest reason for purchasing a package, it is paid for long before the cruise (just like grats). I would rather the charges paid for in advance than worrying about charges during the cruise.

  3. A simple solution is a divided/separated by glass or a wall casino. On one side, non-smoking. On the other side smoking with only slot machines and automated poker machines and roulette machines. That way, the only ones who want to be in the smoking sides are the smoking public. Will take some investment on the cruise line's part but they could do it when they drydock.

No, the simple solution is to BAN SMOKING in any indoor area non smokers could breath the smoke and after smoke stench.

  4. A little bit, sure ... go back and read what I wrote originally. I didn't say that they are the exact same experience but rather that they are so close that the cost of maintaining multiple platforms is questionable.

I find your postings interesting and I am sure you have more experience than I do with Apps and HTML.

Some of your posts I find hard to understand with the use of Acronyms. I am clueless regarding the meaning like MDE and HTML5.

  5. I have snuck in to both the suite lounge and the diamond lounge in the past.

    It was pretty easy...

More power to you. Personally, we are not one who checks credentials, but there are those out there that do.

If one is not Diamond or above, or a Suite Guest, wouldn't this be similar to stealing something one has not earned?

  6. And maybe shifting again. HTML5 is a game changer. There are a couple of "apps" on my tablet that are really just thin wrappers around browser functionality.

    Clueless regarding HTML5.

As was stated, people are becoming more dependent upon apps. One may manage bank accounts, money markets , pay bills, deposit checks, make reservations, check internet speeds, manage flight reservations, calculate tips, see conversions, and so much more, all from Apps. Sure, maybe they are tied into a website, but that is not what the end user sees.

I would like to know more regarding HTML5.

  7. I was comparing the browser version of MDE to the MDE app. They offer the same capabilities. The Disney app works the same whether you're using the actual app or using a browser.

To me, an App in my phone is a lot more convenient than using a browser on my phone.

  8. Though that's a great example of an app that is unnecessary, given that I'm able to do everything I can do in the app just about as well via a browser on my tablet.

Can you make dinning times in real time (MTD) using a browser??? The Disney App you can.

Can you reserve a time for Flowrider in real time? The Disney App you can FastPass most rides.

Can you see wait times for Flowrider online? The Disney App allows you to see wait times in real time.

  9. Bunch of us went on the Majesty back in February and really enjoyed the VCL. My wife and I, daugther and her friend and My brother and SIL all had gold cards (Suites). My niece and her friend and my sister and BIL had outer rooms. What I liked about VCL was we could all be together at the end of the evening for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The outer room people had to pay for their drinks but were allowed to sit with us. We say on the end next to the ropes. I didn't notice anybody sneaking in but did notice many people stopping and read the sign and turn around.

Did your non Suite or Diamond and above participate in the hors d'oeuvres as well?

We will be cruising on MJ in June, as Diamond and Suite Guest. We will check it out

  10. If the product is more information based that just has simple HDMI5 content then a mobile browser experience is perfectly fine. Deck plans and adding reservation can all be done simply by using a smartphone browser.

However, if the experience calls for more interactive content, it may require more hardware control (such as vibration or notification alerts, using the camera or NFC antenna, etc), or go beyond a browsers limitations to accomplish specific tasks (such as instant messaging or call features). This is why a separate phone based application is necessary, simply because of the limitation of a browser based platform may not deliver the same experience or control.

    Huh ???

  11. What ?

If RC is eliminating MTD , that may be it for us with them . This is not like mints on the bed or steel bands on the lido or an increase in gratuities . We started sailing when non set times in the MDR was just getting started . It was our clear choice . We holiday to get away from set schedules .

I find it hard to believe that they would do this and will wait for a formal announcement . Perhaps they will be bringing back smoking in the cabins at the same time .

From your history, doesn't seem like you are loyal to Royal anyway.

  12. Does anybody know how much coin in or chips played it takes to earn a point?

I don't play Slots but for those that do, your points are loaded onto your SeaPass card and you should be able to keep tab on your points.

Table play is based on $ avg per bet over time.

You may always ask the Pit Boss of Casino Host for you running point total. Generally it is calculated around 8pm ships time each day.

  13. You get these on virtually every RCL ship these days if you qualify! :D

I would think if you "Qualify", you would have a CR VIP sticker on your SeaPass card, which would entitle (I hate that word) you to comp drinks in the Casino.

We have had the Casino Host send Wine to the room. I play a lot on Tables and have not seen these passed out. Obviously they exist, just never needed one for myself.

I think the use of "free" should be "comp" drinks.

After updating the App, the heading of App indicates it is a retried App and no longer supported.

The App continues to work but after next iOS update, who knows how much longer it works. I sure wouldn't use it to book a Cruise.

  15. On my iPhone updates today, the Royal Official App showed an update needed. When I read the details of the App, it said it was officially retired and no longer supported. Didn't use it that much. Mostly used for quick look at Deck plans by ship.
