  1. This morning I woke about 6am (in my Puerto Vallarta Condo) and put on my exercise outfit. I then "armed" myself with my trusty iPhone so I could listen to Pandora music :). At 6:15 (when it was still pitch black) I left my Condo (right in the old town of Puerto Vallarta) and went for my daily exercise which was a walk to the Marina (cruise port) which is about 4 miles distant. This walk took me through a quiet downtown (Centro) of PV, out past the south Hotel Zone and Hotel Zone, past a 24 hour pharmacy (staffed by a single young lady who stood in the door way and traded Hola's (no security necessary even though there were tons of drugs on the shelves near the door) and eventually walked passed Walmart and Sams to arrive at the Port just as the Island Princess was making her 180 degree turn before docking. At that point it was about 64 degrees, the sky was starting to become light...and I turned around and walked the 4 miles back to the Condo to have breakfast.

I have been doing a similar routine here in PV for the past 12 winters. I have absolutely no fear of concerns walking in town (or out) day or night. Even at 6:30 I will see single ladies out for a walk or jogging...also with no fear. Last night we were out to dinner with friends and walked about a mile back to our condo (after 10:30pm) with no fear or concerns other then whether we should buy some ice cream or crepes (made by a street vendor).

So what is my point? There are few cities in my own country (USA) where I would feel as safe as here (and DW shares in this feeling). Yes, we read the State Department Advisories (which actually exempt PV from most of their warnings) and we see the concerns of some cruisers on PV. There is nothing we can say or do to alleviate folks who have concerns. But, DW and I could choose to live anywhere in the World during the winter months (we are snowbirds)....and despite having traveled extensively to over 100 countries.....this is the place we have chosen (for a dozen years) as our winter home. And I guess I should mention that there are approximately 50,000 other Americans and Canadians that live here around the beautiful Bay of Bandaras.....and most would feel exactly the same :).

I'm so jealous. Do you stay in the romantic zone? That's my favorite part of town. I can't wait to come back and eat at my favorite places, drink at Players, CYC and the Sun Devil bar and bask in how I feel so comfortable in PV. I can't wait to winter there when I retire.

  2. Jalisco (home of PV) is not on this list. San Jose Del Cabo is a different city than Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo is where there is more risk. I went to PV twice last year (Cabo once) and as soon as I can book for next January I'll be back. But, I'm fine with other people staying away since that makes the lines for all their wonderful restaurants a little shorter.

  3. I had the same thing happen to me. The "gentleman" was the rudest princess employee that I had ever talked to. Anyway, he filled out the paperwork but in the meantime, i went to their comment page. There is no place for this type of issue so I used "Post Cruise Comments" and gave them an earful. 2 days later I was back in my original cabin which I only noticed because I checked the website. Then I called and confirmed and also had them verify that once again, I wanted no upgrade. Give it a shot.

  4. I became an Elite on my last cruise, all the ports were dock accessible. I read that Elites get priority access on tenders. Do they have a separate line? I'm the only one in my party that is Elite, can my whole party come with me or just my husband?

    thanks

  5. They've tried to upgrade me twice even though I told them Meta Upgrade only and these weren't. Both times were to cabins in my opinion an undesirable location (right above the theater). The last time I had to fight to go back to my original cabin and I told them no upgrade whatsoever. but I was in a lower category so you should be good.

  6. Well, evidently my unhappy email worked and we got moved back to our original cabin M101. I called to confirm that I am on the no upgrade list for sure this time. The man I spoke to the other night said it was no longer available. I'm an elite on Princess and I have to say this is the first time that I have ever had a rude customer service person. I don't imagine he'll last long.

  7. Sorry, I just got off the phone with Princess and I am so angry I left out information. It is the Royal Princess E203. According to the map it looks like it is below the Theater. I have only found one review and it was so vague as to be virtually non-existent.

  8. I booked a regular balcony originally and got upgraded. I took that upgrade but then after reading about the front cabins on here, I rebooked to cabin M101 (and saved over $500) and forgot to tell them no upgrades. Just got an email trying to move me to E201, so I called and said no. She asked if I want to be removed from the upgrade list and I told her only if it's to a mini-suite. I'm looking forward to this big balcony where we can fit all 8 of us who are traveling! 3 months from today! Plus, I read a review on this cabin and they said there is noticeable noise from the Theater.
