  1. I do believe some genies truly read your answers. One of our genies on a past cruise had decorated our room (on an in suite formal night dinner) with quotes from our dinner guest choices. I had Einstein, Oprah and Stephen Hawking quotes up the staircase and on the walls! It was really lovely!

  2. We were in cabin 8132 and had the lovely stripper pole. I walked into it twice. The noise was awful, until 3 am. Sounded like chairs or trolleys, I don't know but didn't get a good nights sleep at all. This was. JS which was basically a balcony cabin.

That is my fear about the pole possibility. The sight of it would not bother me, it would be forgetting it was there in the middle of the night and smacking right into it!

  3. Out of curiosity, why do you feel that way? I've been on both ships and I admit the sailings were several years apart but from what I remember, the ships are pretty much identical.

Yes, the ships are identical but I found that the entertainment was more to my liking than on the Oasis.

The staff was a bit more friendly.

I believe the food quality was better on Allure in the specialty restaurants.

I also thought that the concierge on Allure were a bit more pleasant, a bit more personable and more available than Oasis had been when I was on it.

    Just my observation.

    I'm sure others will disagree.

  4. You are right about the decline in civility. The crew on the Allure were really lovely and we saw other passengers act rudely, crudely and moody to the staff. Most crew members know English as a second language. It may take them a second or two to understand what you are asking for, or of them. It doesn't mean they you have the right to criticize, humiliate or yell at them. They ALL deserve respect for the work they do. Their work is constant, repetitious and hard. They are a large part of what makes cruising so wonderful.

  5. I feel so sorry for him! I know what it is like! I have had chronic hives on and off since I was 5. I have been tested for everything under the sun and with the most recent bout, finally figured out that it was the water.

(went on a trip to NY and didn't have a single hive.) Now I only drink purified water. - and no hives. (for now) I often think I am just allergic to myself.

Don't give up on trying to figure out what it is!

  6. I don’t eat buffets but during my last Oasis cruise, I did observe. Please keep in mind, this was only 2 days of a 7 day cruise:

    1. Tongs/utensils dropped on the floor, then placed back on the buffet

    2. Children picking up bread/desserts, smelling it, and then putting it back on the buffet

    3. Sweaty passengers grabbing tongs with sweat dripping into pans of food at Labadee.

I’ve worked in the service industry. I’m not naive. I know unspeakable things happen behind the scenes in the kitchen. But for the love of god at least I can’t see it. But these are things I’ve seen. Add that onto what happens “behind the scenes” and LOL, good luck.

You are right. Germs are everywhere. Including the supermarket shopping carts, ATM machines, door handles, gas pumps and even the magazines in a doctors office. I know they are there but I'm not going to live my life worrying about it and not having the best experiences that I can in the one life I get to live! :)

  7. We rarely enjoy dinner in the mdr-It is too noisy, too crowded and too slow. We just want to eat and then go and do all of the fabulous things available during the evening. I am not looking for a two hour dinner. Even the specialty restaurants seem to move at a quicker pace than the mdr. Many options in the windjammer such as salads make it a healthier choice on days when we over indulge elsewhere.

  8. I wasn't able to order the narrow ones on the cruise critic website and ended up on Amazon. I like the plastic straps better also. Silly thing is I have 12 of those CC luggage holders somewhere in this house and I cannot remember what I did with them!!

    You'll find them.

As soon as you get back from the cruise.

  9. I also find the wait times to be exceptionally long. Every once in a while I get lucky and someone answers within 10 minutes. Other times I have waited close to an hour and then hung up and tried again later. That being said, I believe most of the casino reps are the nicest, friendliest and most helpful people to deal with. Every now and then you get a grinch, but that can happen anywhere.

  10. Just another interesting Andrew Lloyd Webber story. We sat in the first row of the balcony right above the sound tech and his video screens. On one screen there was a conductor actively using his baton to seemingly direct an orchestra. Later during a backstage tour, I asked where he and the orchestra were. I was told there was no orchestra because ALR did not trust RCIs performers to provide high enough quality music. He insisted on a tape with full orchestration. The conductor appeared on screens that were also on the front of the upper level to only provide visual timing clues to the actors. The tech guy said sometimes as a joke the conductor will high five on the screen to the non-existent band members.

That is an interesting little tidbit! Thanks for sharing!:)
