  1. Can someone please help me understand what "scope" is...I clicked on the links but it said something went wrong...not your error try later?

Scope stands for Periscope, which is an app that is available on Apple and Android devices. Those who do not have the app, can view the scopes through a computer. That is why I attached all the links. For those not on Periscope.

I am not sure why you are having trouble viewing it. I did click on a few of them and they seem to work fine for me. My daughter, who followed my blog through the week, also used the links to watch all the scopes, as she does not have the app.

My only other suggestion is to download the app on your device (it's free) and search for "LoveToCruise2002". From there you will be able to see a list of all the broadcasts by me, and watch it from there. I have not deleted any of them so they should be there. Or try clearing cookies and cache on your computer before clicking on the links and see if that helps.

  2. Thank you again for taking the time each day from your vacation to update us with pictures and Periscopes. Really enjoyed those. We're even more excited than ever now for our turn in the Yacht Club in January.

You mentioned in a few of your scopes that MSC isn't the Royal experience. We've mostly sailed with RC, and since 2014, exclusively in suites. We've enjoyed our cruises with RC, but always felt like something was missing with their suite class. Maybe it was the smaller, crowded concierge lounges that turned us off. Our best RC suite experience was on the Harmony transatlantic in 2016, with the larger suite lounge and Coastal Kitchen, but we didn't love that ship. We were in a GS for that cruise, so we've never experienced having a genie, but for 2 people, that's a lot of money. The sun deck area on Harmony doesn't look nearly as nice as the one on Seaside.

Just curious what you felt was missing with MSC. Were you talking about how it felt outside of the YC? (I've had that feeling before sailing with Carnival, then going back to RC. Stepping onto the ship you have an AHHHHH moment, and feel like you're home.) Do you think you'd do YC again?

Yes Jules, that is exactly it. RCI cannot compare with the YC, except Coastal Kitchen. But outside of that, when you look at the overall package, I prefer RCI. Would I sail YC again? Most definitely! Is it a better value than RCI? Also a definite yes. But sometimes there are other factors to consider too and that is where Royal has some edge, all IMO. And keep in mind that when I compare to Royal, it is the OA class ships that I am comparing to.

  3. I mostly just lurked and enjoyed the posts on this thread but I wanted to delurk to thank you for taking the time to post your reviews, comments, and 'scopes. You've piqued my enthusiasm for my first YC cruise but sadly I'll have to wait until November 2019 before that happens.

Thanks again for sharing your week with us.

Thank you for following along! Glad you enjoyed it [emoji4]

  4. Many of us know who he is, but much like "Hubby", we don't know his real name!:D Actually, if I am not mistaken, you blew it in one post way back when and I think I know Hubby's name (but I won't bet on it).:D

Mentor or not, you did a fantastic job. Also very happy you got home safely.

No way! I don't think I slipped! But you know how to contact me and I will confirm your guess [emoji12]

  5. Hello,

It was great reading your review. I just wanted to know what the themes were and if people actually dressed up for them?

I'm afraid I did not venture too far out of the YC all week. Have a look at the daily programs that I posted for the themes. I will post the remaining 3 later this afternoon. Sorry I cannot comment much on this.

Thanks again for your reviews and periscopes. It was a wonderful experience for me as I impatiently await our cruise.

You're welcome! Thanks so much for following along! [emoji4]

  6. I certainly will try and scope! We’ll have our two daughters (11&15) along so I’ll try to show some of the kid/teen areas. We’re more DCL cruisers than RCL so I expect less kid-focused activities than DCL but the girls are getting old enough they often like doing their own thing versus kid-stuff activities. We’ll see. I’m hoping the YC will seem like DCL Concierge Class to them which we could never afford.

I've never done DCL concierge class but I can tell you after 3 DCL cruises, YC food is way better, pizza is better, the outdoor water area is 100% better. IMO, the only thing that DCL does better is the shows. And I cannot comment on the teens area on either ship because I had no kids on MSC and my kids don't like Adventure Ocean or Oceaneer Club. But, I am beyond excited for you!

  7. Sabrina, I think I mentioned earlier I planned to contact my TA about waitlisting a YC from Aurea for our Thanksgiving cruise. Well she hit me right back that 18030 was available. So, based solely on your scopes and this blog it looks like we’ll be enjoying the YC difference! My TA thanks you for the additional revenue!

  8. On oasis and allure when staying in sky class they haven't scanned our seapass for towels. Though i wish royal did have nicer pool towels like yc doesl

Yes, on Harmony they did not scan up on the suite sundeck either. I was thinking of the main pool decks when replying earlier. Or did you mean that on Oasis and Allure they never scanned at all for any pool deck?

I've been enjoying your posts and scopes! It'll be and my mom on in December in the YC so I appreciate you taking the time to post about your experience.

No worries! That is the wonderful thing about a live blog. A great resource to learn and share from each other.

I loved your review Lovetocruise2002. Seemed like i was still on the ship in the top sail lounge through you posts. It has helped me deal with the post yc withdrawals. Hope to meet you on a future msc or royal cruise.

Another difference in the yc is there were a lot less pretentious and needy people compared to suite lounge on royal. Don't know what it is but people seemed more friendly and down to earth? Not saying that everyone we have met in suite lounge on royal is needy but seemed like cruisers were friendlier in top sail. You will always get the entitled person on any cruise. To my wife and i seemed that the cruuisers in top sail were more laid back and chill.

I most definitely hope we cross paths one day Frank! It will be fun to share Arthur stories. We took a page out of your book and gave him our bubbly too. I am glad I helped you deal with post cruise depression, who will help me with mine now? [emoji17]. I think I have problems...I fell asleep on the plane earlier and dreamt of Arthur and dinner in the Top Sail Restaurant. Sadly, we came home tonight and ate out of styrofoam containers instead. And there was no Arthur.

I know exactly what you mean about needy people in the suite lounge on RCL. And I agree, there was not much of that this past week in YC.

Thanks for your very detailed review! Wish I didn't have to wait so long for my upcoming YC cruise. Really looking forward to it.

    Thanks for following!

As others have said many times, thank you for such a fun & detailed review. I am debating now moving up from our Bella Balcony Gty to an Inside YC. But I am torn as we do enjoy a lot of quiet time in our room and on the balcony and the inside YC cabins look smaller than regular balconies.... Oh, decisions, decisions.

I would say it is an easy decision. If you can make the YC experience happen, you absolutely should do it. I agree with jvalentine, that there are many spaces to enjoy private time. I was in the lounge most of the week and it never felt crowded. We had a balcony but barely used it this time as there was no table out there.

  9. A final note on internet usage. After many posts to this blog, scopes, texting, FaceTime with kids, and regular daily surfing, I still had a lot of data left...

This was Hubby's usage. We did FaceTime with our kids through both accounts.

In retrospect, it would have been cheaper for us to get one package with 6GB and then pay the additional $59 to top up an additional 2.4GB.

  10. Waiting for our flight now back to DTW. I will upload the rest of the daily programs either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I still owe everyone 3 days worth [emoji6]

Feeling sad as the reality of laundry and grocery shopping now awaits. At least we still have our can of Pringles. The last little bit of our wonderful week in YC on the Seaside.

  11. We made it to the airport after a long, long wait. More about that in a bit.

So disembarkation was a breeze. We went to the concierge at 8:05am and let them know that we were ready to go. We were escorted by a butler right to where they scan your card to get off. That is where it completely ends. The butler does not get off the ship at all.

We made our way through the gangway and past customs. From the concierge desk to curb was 15min! We got lucky as there were not many people disembarking at the time. Customs was quite empty. One thing to note here is that you have an option after customs to either take the elevator down or the escalator. This is the case with most terminals at disembarkation. What was different here was that if you are carrying off more than once piece of luggage, then you either had to take the elevator (which had a huge line) or stack your bags to take the escalator. The reason being that they needed you to have one free hand to hold the rail going down. They were very strict on this as one person was standing right at the escalator to make sure you had one hand on the rail. So, if you carry all your luggage off like us, be prepared to wait in the elevator line or stack your bags.

Upon walking out of the doors of the terminal, you are met with MSC crew members who will direct you to cab, self-parking etc. It was very organized. We were told by rep that they had shuttles going to Miami airport for $8pp. For $16 we thought why not? Well, we now know why not. It was 8:20am when we got on the shuttle. It was 9:30am by the time we were dropped off at the Delta terminal. Hubby did not mind the wait as he thinks the time is either spent waiting at the airport or in the shuttle. I however did not think it worth it wait for the shuttle to fill

up, go to different terminals, etc. Next time, we will go back to Lyft, especially if we have our girls with us.

  12.

Was also wondering if you need to check in and out towels like on RCCL? Or are they just provided to you?

Okay, back to your scopes. I may come back with more questions.

This week went by way too fast! The pool lounger and towel situation is exactly as gimletgal described. If you are dying for a chair right by the pool then it might be hard to come by on a sea day. Otherwise, plenty of space always. And they don't scan your card like Royal for towels.

Thanks so much for a great week and for sharing so much great info. It’s been fun checking in throughout the week to see where we are today or what’s for dinner. I think we’re all sharing a bit in your post-cruise blues this morning.

Seven more weeks until it’s our turn. Safe travels!

Thank you! And regretfully, I did not see Vishnu again so I did not have a chance to ask KF he will be on in 7 weeks time.

It's most definitely not an English speaking cruise line - Papperdelle in Duck sauce - sounds like pasta in chinese duck sauce.

Items may not be fully cooked - means might be rare/medium/notwelldone

Glad you had a good time! Safe flight home!

Thanks for following Ellceee! And the pasta was delicious. It was actually the desserts that were a bit disappointing this week. But all in all, a great time!

  13. Thanks so much Lovetocruise! After following your review I feel like I have taken another great cruise on MSC. (I thought that last menu was one of the best I have ever seen in the YC.)

    Thanks for following along!

You have certainly whetted the appetite for our YC cruise which starts today !!

Oh my, you are in for a treat! Say hello to Arthur for me. And Justin and Richard (the bartenders in the Top Sail Lounge) are amazing! So is Joel. He wasn't our butler but he was always in the lounge. Super nice guy. Have a great sailing!!
