What is being done about coronavirus.....

South Korea has tested over 100,000 of its citizens, The UK has tested 25,000. These countries used the test developed by the WHO, in January 2020, to detect this strain of corona virus. Our CDC didn't want to use the WHO testing platform. Therefore they developed their own version (delays and bad test kits resulted). The USA has tested 4,400 as of 4 p.m. on Monday 3/9/2020. I think it fair to say that the U.S. didn't have the preparedness of other countries to deal with this ongoing health emergency. -

A cruise ship is being held off the California coast after a former passenger died from coronavirus From CNN's Faith Karimi and Steve Almasy A cruise ship passenger from California died from the coronavirus on Wednesday, nearly two weeks after he returned home. Now, the Grand Princess cruise ship he was on is being held off the California coast, so federal health officials can screen passengers and crew members. The unidentified California patient was 71 years old and had underlying health conditions, Placer County health officials said. He was likely exposed to -

What about cruises departing prior to April 3rd? What latitude is Regent providing those customers? -
There has been a 25% increase in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. in the last 24 hours; 118 cases with 9 deaths (all in the state of Washington). That equates to a fatality rate of 7.6%. I think that the number of confirmed cases will grow exponentially, especially in Washington, as the improved test kits are delivered to local health care officials thereby reducing the fatality rate to what the rest of the world is experiencing, between 2 - 3%. Do not be surprised if King Co (Seattle) institutes some severe restrictions on congregations gathering similar as to what is

I think what posters are saying is that Viking Cruise Lines, by temporarily changing their cancellation policy to allow for full FCC on cancellations up to 24-hours before a cruise, has put the decision of whether to cruise or not to cruise back into their customer's hands. The possible COVID-19 scenarios are to numerous for any cruise line to address them all. Viking took the "easy" way out by placing the decision process squarely back on the customer. The question is whether Regent will do the same? -

Reality check: Just to put the numbers related to Influenza and Covid-19 in perspective to each other. There have been 12,000 influenza related deaths in the United States this year from a probable 31,000,000 cases according to the US CDC. This translates into a morbidity rate of ~.03% due to Influenza. Covid-19 has 78,900 cases worldwide with 2,465 deaths as of this morning. That translates into a morbidity rate of ~3.1%. Covid-19 is significantly (90+times) more dangerous than influenza. Side note: SARS related deaths were 774 deaths from 8,098 cases worldwide. The morbidity rate for S -

"Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask. CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility)."
