  1. I'm a commercial contract attorney. Just as an FYI, a company you contract with is responsible for the errors, omissions, malfeasance, etc. of its own subcontractors. If the original contractor comes out of pocket for its subcontractor's mistakes, the original contractor has a cause of action against the subcontractor. Contract law 101, just sayin'.
  2. Same thing happened to me recently. Had purchased the 2 discounted SDP, then later added FAS+. After a few days the 2 SDP turned into a payment against the cruise fare. I called NCL to ask why and nobody could give me answer before disconnecting me after about 20 minutes on hold. Happened 4 times. Not giving up, I finally was able to get someone at NCL who knew exactly what was going on without putting me on hold. She informed that the discounted SDP are limited to 4 meals per person. Either get them with FAS plus the 2 discounted SDP or get them through FAS+, but not both. If you want more than 4 SDPs you have to buy them at full retail.
  3. Oh my, and what about the FCC desk and down payments on any future cruises???
  4. I'm just a little confused here. VAT is owed for the purchase of any goods and services, not just beverages and duty free goods. If NCL closes down beverage and duty free purchases while in port shouldn't they also close down their specialty restaurants for those who are actually purchasing their meal rather than using a prepaid SDM voucher? What about laundry service or room service (there are some items that incur a fee; shrimp, canapes) while in port? Just wondering. I'm guessing that spa services in port are ok as the company running the spa is not NCL and that company has figured out how to account for the VAT. In addition, my understanding is that the cost for shore excursions includes any VAT as well, so the shorex desk wouldn't have to close either. It's telling that NCL can't or won't make this work more smoothly for drink purchases in particular. Not even being able to get a soft drink is crazy. Just sayin'.
  5. I just went back to view the videos on cruisedeckplans and I think you're right Doug. It looks like all the Club Suites on deck 12 have bathtubs (even the regular MAs), while decks 11 and 13 all have only showers (even the Family Club Suites). I think you probably just made your wife very happy. 🙂
  6. From what I've read, only the Family Club Suites have tubs. Please don't take this as gospel, you'll need to confirm somehow.
  7. Thanks, that would explain the complimentary food service, but wonder why ncl would refer to it as a complimentary food-beverage service. It may just be an incorrect reference by ncl because people don't check their own websites for mistakes.
  8. Can someone pride details on what this is and how it works? I called ncl directly to find out the answer and what I got in response was particularly uninformative. Something about a "special" menu that's in your room. Thanks.
  9. I had my TA speak with ncl directly about how using an SDC in Raw Bar works. It's ridiculous that one oyster counts as an entree. The answer is that ncl has no clue how to deal the 1-1-1-1 rule when it comes to Raw Bar, ncl put the policy in place without thinking that through. Accordingly the advice the ncl rep gave my TA was to be nice and discuss what makes sense to count as an entree directly with the Raw Bar employee. I'm guessing this has started to come up more and more frequently after ncl's policy has gone into effect. Maybe the Raw Bar employees are coming up some kind of policy that makes sense for what an entree should be (one dozen oysters say)? $48 for an entree doesn't sound unreasonable when compared to the price of other entrees in the specialty restaurants. Not a great answer, but better than using two SDC credits for an eight oyster entree.
  10. The company my TA works for provided all of the free offers ncl offered for a Mediterranean cruise on Breakaway this fall, plus prepaid gratuities, OBC (sliding scale based on cost of the cruise, mine came to either $350 Visa debit card, $350 OBC or $500 cash back for spending on board, my choice) and a modest shore excursion credit valid through their sister travel company (very reputable excursion travel company). She seems to also have some kind of "direct" line with ncl as on more than one ocassion she has put me on hold, called ncl to resolve an issue and then get back on the phone with me ... all in about 15 minutes. All of this for a $24.95 non-refundable fee, well worth the investment. She has worked through many of the issues/questions I've had that me calling ncl directly have not been successful.
