  1. Not the best of advice as noted previously many cruise lines do not allow them to be brought on board and if found will confiscate them to be returned after the cruise.

There typically will be the necessary outlets to allow for its use.

I have always taken my extension cord and never been stopped. I have yet to sail where there was an outlet close enough to the bed for me to use my machine without the extension so no, there typically is not the necessary outlets.

I tried asking for an extension cord on one cruise line and they said they did not have any. Glad I had mine with me.

  2. The one thing that does slightly bother me only very very slightly is the suggestion on some boards that it isn't the trained Characters that write the signatures, but some pot washers earning some overtime. Disney would never allow the integrity of the signatures to be that way.

Sorry Techie but I too am a past CM (over twenty two years) and worked at one of the WDW resorts for several years. Autographed character photos were given to kids for special occasions and I personally witnessed that they were signed by any CM that could replicate the particular character signature, even the "pot washer", which by the way, is where I started my career with the company.;)

  3. So I understand, you are thinking the cruise line should somehow comp you for some, or all, of the costs of getting to the ship? You do realize they have no control over these costs?

If they gave comps for these costs how should they then make it comparable for those that live 20 minutes away? What perks should they provide for them to make it even?

    Just asking.

We only live two hours by air from several ports. I sure would like to get a comp for some of our airfare. Yeah, like that's going to happen.;)

  4. anitat, It's all good, I screwed up the spelling of Toronto too.:D

I also agree, Valdor sounds like a cool name and you should get the credit if it were to ever happen that a ship got that name.

    Enjoy the cruise.

  5. The OP specifically asks if they (her and fiancé) are being selfish. In my opinion, and considering her attitude toward the relatives that said no to the cost, the answer to that is absolutely. After living together for as long as they have I would not even consider spending that much money and time to go to a wedding that is essentially just a formality type of thing. Especially if I was in a pay check to paycheck situation. Again, JMHO.

  6. Why start another thread when you already know this isn't the problem you claim it to be?

Please advise what authority declared you "qualified" as a "cruiseologist".

Apparently he/she didn't like the answers received on the previous thread. Even though they did come from actual "qualified" persons such as Cheng and Bruce.

  7. Tampa is NOT that close to Port Everglades!!!!! They are coming from TAMPA..not Ft. Laud airport!

I believe the reference was for returning the rental car to FLL airport after driving from Tampa. No one ever stated it was close to Tampa.

By the way Essiesmom, great photo.

  8. Carnival needs to treat everyone like kids, because of the bad behavior found on the ship. Cheap cruise, smuggling, equals one giant party. Other cruise lines will treat you like an adult, but than they don't have the same reputation.

After 8 cruises on Carnival ships I have yet to see this "bad behavior" or the "giant party". Yes, an occasional over indulger but not that bad. Reputation does not necessarily equal truth.

Of course there is the expensive, family cruise line, Disney, which allows you to take all the booze you want pretty much. I once watched one guy board with a portable hand truck stacked with cases of beer. I've seen some real drunks on their ships, so which is worse, smuggled or wide open overload?

I don't smuggle, don't concern about people who do, and personally, I have no problem with this new rule.

Not looking for an argument, just my 2 cents.;)

  9. Forgive an obvious question, I've never done this before. If you order a bottle of alcohol and mixers for the first day online prior to the cruise, it will be in your room for you to enjoy anytime, as a cake or bottled water?

Just making sure there's no catch...

Just be aware it may get there late in the day. We have had items that we ordered show up well past leaving port. On our last cruise in Dec we had two cabins. Our daughter and her husband were sailing as well. I ordered birthday cakes and tuxedo strawberries for my wife and daughter as both had birthdays during the cruise. I wanted to surprise them with these items in the room when we boarded. Surprise was on me as the gifts didn't show up until dinner time. Oh well, the girls were still happy.

When we placed our order for this water it stated it could be delivered up to 9:00 PM I believe.

  10. Just to make it very clear to a couple of you, including the OP, I am far from a "fanboy" or am I even a big fan of DCL. I just don't feel the OP was clear or consistent with their statements nor do I see much of an issue. And by the way, we are allowed to disagree with the OP, "fanboy/girl" or not.

  11. OK, so you saw her drink three drinks in three hours at a table next to you. Could you see the bartender include alcohol? Perhaps they were virgin drinks?

You also stated that you saw her "four hours later" at the pool working. Even if she did have one alcohol drink per hour over the course of three hours I doubt they had much effect on her four hours later.

Consider this as well, most cruise lines have no lifeguards at the pools. While I would not want a drunk lifeguard, one that had one drink a hour for three hours and came to work four hours later is certainly better than no guard at all.

  12. did you read the FULL thread?

up front it says the ressie was cancelled and a rebook happened to get the freebie booze pack ....

when the cancel happened, all bets were off.

Yes, I read the full thread, did you? At no time did the OP state they cancelled and rebooked, all they did was ADD the drink package.

  13. How many places are you going to post this identical rant.

Perhaps she reposted to the NCL board because the second responder on this thread suggested she do so? I for one do not see this as a rant but as a legitimate gripe. It would have pi$$ed me off too. She had a legitimate reason for booking the way she did and it is reasonable to expect your booking to stay that way unless there were extenuating circumstances, which there does not seem to be in this case, even though the cruise line does reserve the right to change you. Adding a drink package doesn't seem like an extenuating circumstance to me.

To have the guests now booked in those rooms move would involve extenuating circumstance as the cruise line screwed up the prior guests reservation and should correct it. The second guest should be justly compensated as well. Just my humble opinion.

    Now for the flames...

  14. Try a professional line, and see how well things are supposed to work.

What do you consider a "professional" line? Something more expensive, like Disney? Been on them four times and guess what, the lines at GS got long on those ships too depending on when you when you went to the desk. Couple of times on HAL also, same situation. It's not exclusive to Carnival.

Companies like CCL are in business to make a profit and answer to their shareholders, which are always looking for those profits to increase. Adding additional staff to the desk will increase costs and reduce profits so what happens, the price of the cruise for everyone goes up to cover the additional expense. You want more service then you're going to have to pay for it, one way or another.

As for FTTF, seems pretty simple to me, if you don't like the product or the price don't buy it. What difference does it make to anyone if another person chooses to make that purchase? Besides, they might possibly be saving you money in the long run.

  15. Caribbean Helicopter does a great tour into the live volcano on Montserrat

OK, Not sure how this helps? Montserrat us a far piece from Aruba and Caribbean Helicopters doesn't list a tour on Aruba.
