NCL did this for nearly a year in the Dominican Republic after running a ship aground, and not notifying passengers of the possibility of this port being canceled prior to final payment.  Please note that on my sailing in January, only half the passengers received the email notifying them of the port cancellation when the decision was made in December to replace the DR with a sea day.  The itinerary remained the same on the NCL website for the following month, and people who called NCL were told the port wasn't cancelled so there was a lot of confusion, so its important for you to try to help newer cruisers/cruisers who have travel limitations be aware of this situation so they can try to mitigate the difficulties caused by this itinerary change.

The other issue most are unaware of is the people you talk to are not in a call center if old days where everyone has the same information. Most are home based and in countries around the world and don't have "supervisors" in the room to reach out to. It makes it much easier to get incorrect information they will swear is correct.

I explained again that no one had been allowed to get off the ship there in any of the May or June cruises.

It's not that they weren't allowed to get off the ship there. The ship NEVER WENT THERE. They overnighted in Akueyri instead.

This is no longer true. 10 years ago it used to be in the contract for production cast members that they could not gain or lose more than 5 pounds. As the years passed, NCL took a healthier approach: now cast members are contracted for 5 hours of exercise beyond rehearsals each week.

I'm honestly not sure that's an improvement for some folks.

My daughter tells me that performers are avoiding Norwegian, in part because they have very strict daily weigh-ins (you’re out if you gain five pounds) and not the best working conditions.

If you can get the talent, why even try for the best shows?

Makes sense. And there going to have a lot more trouble getting them when talent feels their shows and contracts can be canceled without notice like they did to Kinky Boots

The low budget replacements that are currently being used are short-contract guest performers and entertainment staff already on the ship. It is cheaper to pay one bad ventriloquist than an entire production show cast and support. That’s the way it has been on our April and May cruises. We’ll see if it continues. I spoke to production managers on both cruises and there are no plans to bring on any other big production shows (Broadway or otherwise).

Such a said state of affairs for casts & crews that want to spend their careers on the seas. Fewer and fewer options. Glad I did it in the early 2000's but also glad I'm done with ships.

It’s hard sometimes to get actors who will leave home for six months and who can adapt to ship life.

Especially after Covid when they were not allowed off the ship  ports for weeks at a time!! Travel is no longer a benefit of the job if you can't see anything!!

UK the law is different if a cruise line cancels a cruise they are responsible for out of pocket losses that result from that cancellation.

(There are some exceptions that don't apply here)

You are supposed to try to mitigate your losses, for air that would be getting partial refund(eg. taxes) or if possible changing flights where that would result in a lower loss, the cruise line would be responsible for any outstanding loss like change fees and potentially the difference if there was no refund for a cheaper flight, not sure if the flight was more, probably not as you would have used the full amount of the original fare.

The problem, most likely, is you are dealing with a customer service representative in the US or even Philipines who has no idea what the UK laws are. You'll need to put them all in writing with all documentation and send to Miami Corporate offices and demand redress.

It's much less than $79/person direct on Flybus.

I avoid 3rd parties as I have read too many stories about loss of communication when you add extra companies to the mix. Even with Viator.

The anger at them on the Support board at TripAdvisor,  their parent company,  would be amusing if it wasn't so upsetting

It was $79 for 2 (just as I said $58 for 2 with Viator)

Note that quite a few people visit Iceland to make a land-based trips around the country, cruise passengers are just a small portion of tourists visiting Iceland.

I am sure, but we won't be competing with 3,000 people all at the same time to depart the airport

It would perhaps be helpful if you posted a link or screenshot, but I think you are looking at various discounts, not add-ons. If by VIP, you are referring to the option “Vrienden Loterij VIP-KAART“, that is the price for holders of a card from a lottery that supports the arts in the Netherlands.

Ah!! So they are discounts, not add-ons. Thank you.

  11. I apologize for yet another post on the topic...but I have read the others and still need advice. We are staying in Shepherds Bush a few days precruise. Deciding if it's better to do National Express bus from Victoria Station or a shared shuttle? We do not want to spend hundreds when the bus seems fine at less than $50....any input is appreciated
