  1. For PUP's, can anyone help refresh my memory please?  Did they not have some sort of a "gift box" that you clicked on last year that gave you a New Year's present of a bonus point (or two or three??).  Or maybe it was for another holiday/special occasion, but I'm sure I remember something like this at some point and thinking it was New Year's?

The colour of the sky in this pic is absolutely stunning!!!

Also love the pictures of doors that you have posted.  You have such a great eye, Jim!

Continue to enjoy .... so glad you have the second half of the B2B to cruise so there are more live reports that we all get to keep reading.  ☺️

My DH had a bad attitude before sailing.  We booked it 2 years ago pre-pandemic.  Well, he said it was our best cruise ever!  How is that for positive??

Hahaha....that is so great that he experienced such a turnaround ☺️    Was it maybe because of his attitude pre-sailing that it made it easy to beat expectations?  We are sailing in June with a couple who have never cruised and never had any desire to but because of Covid said to heck with it, let's try it!  I'm almost hoping they go in with an attitude of "we won't like this" and thus will be pleasantly surprised.

But, I decided this was a potentially dangerous situation that warranted more immediate action and put out the cigar myself.  I then called the desk to advise them of what I'd done, asking if they could send someone to remove the cigar and speak with the man in the event he returned while I was waiting.  About 15-20 minutes later, two staff from one of the specialty restaurants (not security) eventually responded and took the cigar.  A few minutes later, I happened to see the smoker in the coffee shop.  I probably shouldn't have said anything to him but since the ship staff seemed to have no interest in speaking with him, I approached him to tell him that he'd created a dangerous situation by leaving a burning cigar on a flammable surface.  His response was to verbally and physically threaten me.

Good for you Bluewake, for taking the initiative to look after a potentially dangerous situation yourself!  Sorry you didn't receive the support from staff that IMHO you should have.  Will never know for sure, but I  think the fact that DH immediately identified himself as a firefighter when he called to report a potential fire/safety hazard may have helped with the quick response that we received.

Ever notice how many folks who are clearly in the wrong immediately respond with a verbal assault when someone dares to challenge them, even if politely?  SMH

  5. ArmyCop42 - I hope that you have a fabulous cruise and enjoy Celebrity!  '

Thankfully this was the one and only time out of eight Celebrity cruises (plus a couple of cruises on a couple of other lines) where we had a situation to call security but certainly understand that issues can and do occur.

My brother was career military and finished his career as a sea trainer for safety with Canadian Navy so the one time he took a "pleasure cruise" with us I received some impromptu safety lessons haha (which I shouldn't laugh....some pretty great advice was provided!)

And thank you for your service!

  6. LOL - love your post OP!

To chime in, we were on the 7 day maiden voyage of Edge in 2018.  Admittedly that was some time ago now so can't speak to changes made since then however DH and I did very much enjoy the cruise.  Thought she was a beautiful ship and of course had the usual great service that we have always been fortunate to have on Celebrity.

Not sure what type of cabin you are sailing in, but we had an IV.  For us, we are glad we tried it but personally would not book one again.  The IV cabin by no means had a negative impact on our enjoyment of the cruise itself overall.

So to answer your question, yes we sailed the E class and enjoyed it ☺️

I truly hope your enthusiasm for your first X sailing resumes and please come back and share your experiences.

If another passenger was threatening to you in some way, do you believe the ship security would respond helpfully to a request for assistance? Any safety tips you recommend?

Yes in our situation security was very responsive.  We reported someone in the cabin next to us for constantly smoking on their balcony (this cruise was shortly after another ship had a fire aboard which of course the cruise lines take VERY seriously).  My husband happens to be a firefighter and naturally noted the dangers of a fire on a ship when he called.  Security came immediately and spoke with both DH and the guy next door who then started yelling at my husband and was quite nasty.

They promptly moved this guy and his wife to another cabin and charged them cleaning fees (and a fine I believe) as they had to wash the walls down etc. -  turns out they had been smoking in their stateroom as well as on the balcony (Sorry - I'm getting off topic).

As an aside, DH is 6'2" and can "handle himself" in a difficult situation and he commented afterwards that there was no way in he11 that he would ever mess with this security person lol.  He was not a large man but it was obvious that he was well trained, very physically fit, he de-escalated the situation well, and was extremely calm and professional.  BTW of note is they wear body cams.  In our case as soon as the guy next door started yelling, hubby noticed security turn it on.

  8. Thank you so much for your review!  So great to hear  ☺️

Your post was particularly helpful to me as we will be sailing Equinox (not until June 2023 tho) with two other couples....one couple has never sailed X and the other couple has never sailed at all.  Passing your comments along to them as the couple who have never cruised before are a little apprehensive and don't know what to expect.  This was a great summary!

And thank you also to the poster who commented on the glass blowing...the other two ladies have already signed up so am passing your comments along as well ☺️

Thanks for the prompt response. Will try for maybe 4 people and do it separately as maybe trying to book for 8 is an issue.

    You're very welcome 😊

Wondering if you have you linked your cruise reservations?  We have a party of seven (three cabins) in June 2023 Equinox and I linked all of our reservations before booking dining.   Made it very convenient to book dining times as I think you can book up to eight passengers per reservation?  Hope this helps!

  10. It should not be too early to book dining times.  We sail the Equinox in June 2023 and booked our Select Dining times several months ago with confirmation.  After reading your post, out of curiosity I just went on to check my April 2024 Silhouette cruise (also select dining) and was able to follow the process all the way through to book our select dining times as well.

Aside from confirming that you should be able to book at this time, unfortunately I don't have anything helpful to suggest.  However there are many others on CC who are more experienced sailing Celebrity than I am who may chime in with some good advice.  Good luck.

  11. Silly question but can you change a booking with refundable deposit to a non-refundable and lower the final cost?  Or if you try to do that will they change your booking to current rates? (current cost is almost $1800 Canadian/cabin higher right now than what we paid).  Cruising June 2023 and booked back when cruising was just re-starting and we felt more comfortable at that time with refundable.

  12. Thank you so much PinkSandGirl for the fantastic live thread!  Especially appreciate your detailed comments and pics of the Sky Suite.....have been considering this suite to book (usually sail S class deluxe verandah/large angled balcony on the hump) and pretty sure your comments have convinced us to give it a try when we book (hopefully soon!) the Beyond 😊  Thanks again!!!!

Spent a month on the Silhouette this past February… it’s a beautiful ship and the action never stopped!

sayvan quick off-topic question.....I just noticed you are from Stratford.  Do you know of/ever shop at The Green Room?

Totally Agree!  When I typed my post earlier in this thread I intended to mention the Martini Bar as another great spot to hang out but for some ridiculous reason it completely slipped my mind!

Do either of you recall if Celebrity installed new TV’s during the remodel?  Are they still Samsung TVs?  As I recall if I want to hook up my Fire stick, I will need to bring a Samsung remote to change the TV input.

it worked different on the Apex last year.

    Thanks

I'm sorry jagofee.....this was my first cruise on the Silly so do not know if the tv's were new or not compared to pre-refurb.

  16. Hello Gusman.    We have sailed the Silhouette after her refurb and can confirm the earlier comment by Moonarino that the ship looks great!   Have never sailed RCCL and my only Carnival cruise was many years ago so I am no help with comparisons but am happy to share what we enjoyed onboard the Silhouette (similar age demographic to you but of course YMMV).

We loved the silent disco as well as some late night DJ'ing in the Sky Lounge if you like to dance later into the evenings.  Also had a great dinner at the Lawn Club Grill.  If you are in to sports you might enjoy grabbing a booth at the Craft Social as they have several TV's in there with various sports games being shown and some "pub grub" you can order (extra charge).  We have seen some really funny comedians onboard (especially the late night adult only) but of course this can be hit or miss.

As for the dining room, my DH and a friend were once turned away when wearing dress shorts but this was a few years ago on a different Celebrity ship.  From other comments on various threads it seems that there is not always consistency enforcing the policy of men wearing long pants at dinner.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy your cruise on the Silly and would love it if you came back to report on your experience!  Always great hearing feedback from someone's first cruise on Celebrity!  Enjoy 😊

  17. PinkSandGirl thank you so much for the welcome aboard to follow along with you on the Beyond! 😊 Especially interested in hearing your thoughts on the Sky Suite.....we are considering making a foray into the suite life and that is the suite we would try.

Like you, we are also lovers of the "S" class and the infinite balcony just wasn't our thing on the Edge although we enjoyed the "E" class of ship overall.  Interested in your thoughts on the Beyond as she looks like a gorgeous ship!  Have a fabulous cruise!!
