Your logic makes sense, but I can think of one possible reason to upgrade someone with a minisuite as opposed to someone already in the Haven - if the total final price was equal.

It  might be a way to convert someone to Haven, if they have a great experience and it was their first time, and in turn it might mean more revenue for the future.

Yeah, possibly.  I was just thinking that it would make the most sense if it were structured from the top down.  If they fill an H4 with someone who originally had an H8 then it opens up an H8 which would get a higher bid than a mini-suite.

Hi All!   I am sure somewhere in the 5000 responses my question has been posted and answered.  But I really don't want to scroll through 5000+ questions!  SO -

We are on the Getaway starting Dec 13. for 9 days.  We are in a balcony now, and bid for a Haven Suite.  My question is, does anyone know what the typical accepted amount is? And when do you typically find out if your bid is accepted?  This is our first bidding process.  We had previously booked through Costco travel and they were not part of the bid upgrade offers.

Thanks and sorry for the repetitive (i'm sure) question.

There is no typical amount, too many variables :D.  Best advise is be happy with the room you have and bid what you are comfortable spending extra for on the room you want.

  3. You'd still have to pay in full by 120 days for her booking in the second room.  If she is considered a no-show you wouldn't get that back so not sure why you would want to do that.  But I think you mean a no-show as the 4th guest in your room?

If he has to cancel before the cancelation period you should be able to cancel both of them and add her to your room as a 4th at that time.

I'm curious. since the min bids for Havens will depend on your starting cabins, do they upgrade higher level cabins first (i.e H8 to H4 vs minisuite to H4) or based on overall bid.

This bidding system is confusing.  I liked the old method of calling in and asking....lol.

Side question: Ronmalley99 -- are those bids in USD? The ones I posted before were in CDN.

There have been no discernible patterns as to why certain bids are taken over others...  That information has not been communicated.

It would only make sense that it would.  The final price for the cabin would be the bid plus the original booked room costs.  Wouldn't make sense for them to upgrade someone with a minisuite to H4 over someone with an H8 if the bid was the same or even if the final total price was equal.  I'm sure they use a very sophisticated algorithm to make sure they get as much money as possible.  I'd also assume that they fill the higher class cabins first since it will open up another cabin to take a bid for.  Which is why they probably still take bids for a class of cabin that currently shows as being sold out.

Lol, then they didn’t think it through when designing the ship imo 😱

No disagreement there.  I often wonder why they never put a full size pool in an adult only area like Spice or Vibe.  They are basically forcing anyone who wants to get into a pool into that one small area.  If there is one thing I'm not a fan of when it comes to NCL ships it is the layout of the top decks.

  6. I don't think that "personal safety" was what was meant when they said "safe", I think they meant "personal satisfaction".  An Inaugural cruise can appear to some to be like a Beta Test, and I can see that.  Just because the crew has trained for all situations doesn't mean that some people won't achieve 100% personal satisfaction on a cruise.  This is Cruise Critic after all :classic_biggrin:

  7. I've never had an issue with Spring break cruises.  There may be more children but that never bothered me.  An over 18 cruise will still have college age spring breakers which can be worse than children.

Also, I have mainly had balcony rooms and I rarely ever have an issue with the movement in the room.  I mostly feel it when I am walking through the interior or sitting down in one of the MDRs.  There are three types of motions sickness and they are all caused by the conflicting information of what is sent to the brain. First, If your body sees motion but doesn't feel it.  this is normally caused by virtual reality simulators and video games.  Second, Your body feels motion but doesn't see it.  This can be caused by riding in cars and the sensation I referred to about walking the interior of the ship and sitting down at the MDR.  The third is when you see and feel the motion but they do not correspond.  This type is where regular sea sickness falls into and carnival rides.  On a large ship you won't get this type unless the waves are relatively large but they normally try to stay away from sailing in waters that rough.  I used to get very sick playing FPS video games so I do not do that anymore.  From all of my cruises I have only ever felt nauseous twice but have never gotten sick.  Both instances the waves were around 7 feet or higher.

  8. I'm looking at the itinerary for my cruise in FEB 2020 and have noticed that the itinerary has changed slightly.  It is now showing that the Jamaica and Cozumel stops are "Overnight".  It no longer lists arrival time or a time for when we can leave the ship.  Anyone have an idea of what time you can usually get off the ship if it is an overnight?  I don't think this is an actual overnight, just that it arrives sometime in the middle of the night.

Anyone do the Maya Key Private Island tour through NCL? If yes, what did you think?

I liked it.  The weather wasn't great that day but I had a good time, it is pretty good if you are just looking for a beach day.  There were two ships that had excursions to the island but it wasn't crowded at all, might have also been due to the weather.  The snorkeling is really good, you can go out right from the dock with a guided tour that is free if you have your own EQ.  We also did an animal encounter with the Capuchin monkeys which was really cool, no charge.  They will climb all over you and try to steal anything you might have on you or in your pockets so they make you take everything off and empty your pockets.  The buffet food was decent and you only get one time in line.

    Here are some reviews:

I loved the waterfront on the BA too and spent lots of time out there, including sailaway.

Sorry, My post was more about the optical illusion than the double posting of the pic.  That was the only reason I realized it was posted twice.  You can tell when you zoom it that it is the woman's shoe who is sitting on the stool behind him.

By this time, it was time for sail away!  You have some choices for this.  Get pushed and shoved around on the upper decks.  Or, see it from my favorite vantage points, The WaterFront (again).  Grab a drink at one of the bars and hang at the railing.....

You posted this picture already.  I remember because the guy sitting on the bench looking at his phone looks like Penguin from Batman.  There is an optical illusion causing his nose to look extraordinarily large. :classic_tongue:

Is 123 days out correct? I am cruising Feb 23 and I am 145 days out... I am frustrated because only the minimum excursions are showing and all the restaurants etc say "Too early to book." I am curious as to when that will change.  We are in the Haven so I think it opens up like 10 days earlier but still no idea when that might be. Does anyone know?

Yeah, Feb 01, 2020.  Exactly 22 days before you.  I sail on a Saturday and you must be sailing on a Sunday.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about the EPIC... we were on it last year and the ride at night was so awful, usually cruise ships rock us to sleep but on the EPIC, it was like experiencing an earthquake because the bed would shake so rough, it was like  if someone is shaking it so bad, to wake you up and it DOES!  This was so bad for my husband because the next day he just didn't feel rested, my son didn't do well either fighting the sea sickness from the rough sail...  I was not so over taken from it all just I didn't care for the ship (I enjoyed the GETAWAY having a mini golf, this one for a 58 year old, didn't have anything really for me to enjoy on the Epic) so wasn't too crazy about the EPIC but was always wanting to visit the Southern Carribean Islands and offered by the EPIC so I figured, we'd be mostly visiting the islands daily anyways so it didn't matter much to me...

BUT TOTALLY forgot how it affected them and booked an 11 day cruise yesterday!  When I mentioned to my husband and son that it was on the EPIC, the same ship we were on last year, they made me RECALL right away how they didn't enjoy it, my son doesn't even want to go now!!!  So when I called Norwegian today, they said they can't cancel the trip without losing my money!

I just wanted to know has anybody experienced this rough shaking at night on the EPIC?  Maybe it was just the ocean that month, I believe end of November?  Or maybe they're saling more smoothly now, it seems they were saliling maybe tooo fast, IDK but we're going on beginning of January 2020.  Has anybody else experienced this on the EPIC during the month of January?   Please advise or copy paste this question, where it's suppose to be, I TRULY would appreciate your all feedback or your suggestions...  Thanks in Advance!

The worst I had ever experienced was on the Escape, and not the listing cruise.  At night it felt like the ship was leaving the water and slamming back down.  The last sea day, there were 3 of them, I had sea sickness so bad that I just slept on a deck chair all day.  I don't believe either your cruise or mine can be attributed to the ship.  Sometimes they just have to sail through a rough patch of sea.
