Went onboard Dawn more than two years ago as a 4-night Airlie trip on a last-min deal. It easily beats the Carnival Legend that we went on late last year. Granted ship looks a bit tired in some parts, but you can't avoid that when you're on a 30-year-old lady!

I personally cruised three times, one each on PCL/CCL/POAU, and found the Dawn's offering acceptable (again compared with Legend). It's not the "oh wow" feeling like Princess has but miles ahead than Carnival which offers quite a bit of cr@p on mine.

They also offer some nice drink package which I took up last time I cruised with them - and yes I had endless cups of great coffee and tea. And mind you all my experiences were from before the ship went to dry dock in August this year.

Drinks - there is no difference in price pre-cruise or once on-board.  You should buy the package right away in order to maximize the value.

 

Spa - I don't think the Spa services in Personalizer are any cheaper, but they do run certain specials on board.  I have not availed myself of this location, so cannot speak with total authority on how best to maximize your value there.

Do you also happen to know anything about shorex and whether it would be cheaper to prepurchase that?

Hello all,

Being away from cruising for a long time so forgive me for the stupid questions!

I've heard that on Embarkation day there's all sorts of discounts for packages like Wi-Fi, drinks and Spa. Being from Australia also means that I was unable to prebook drink packages before boarding so I'm curious on what sort of discounts are we discussing here? Is that realistic to expect some 50% discount or stuff compared to pre-book?

Just an update that we do have that promotion down here

However I did not opt to refare that for my reservation - I have Majestic's 12-day South Pacific and the price difference is almost the exact amount for drink package + Wi-Fi for 12 days.... That is not a deal at all!

I'll probably wait for a better deal later on

However this is only for me - your trip might still be better off so check on PCL's website first before contacting cruise line or your travel agent directly (depending on how you booked your trip)
