  1. Unfortunately that's true, but your expections although different are no less important. Consideration and compromise are two words that are fast becoming oboslete. Avril
  2. We have a 3 bedroom house, we had one, the 2 girls shared and our boy had the 3rd. I don't see a problem🤔 Avril
  3. Then she's needs to buy a larger house, instead of thoughtlessly making decisions that cause others stress and worry. If that was their reason then they will most likely move anyway. Avril
  4. Good morning LL. More and more now, we are seeing thoughtless or inconsiderate individuals try to ride roughshod over another's rights. Well done for standing up for your rights and congratulations on a well deserved victory. As for the neighbours, I wouldn't worry. They were in the wrong and should have had the decency to apologise for all the stress they have caused you. If it's any consolation, you can always wonder how much money their attitude has cost them in the end.😇😉 Avril
  5. Am I being naive or simply living in the past, but isn't rubbish collection included in the council tax?🤔 Avril
  6. Luckily our council is one of the remaining 40%. So far that is🤞 Avril
  7. Was it Lonnie Donegan's 'My Old Man's A Dustman' by any chance? Avril
  8. We have grey for general household rubbish, blue for paper and cardboard, brown for glass, plastic and tins, and green for garden rubbish. It was a real faff ar first but now we're used to it it's fine. Avril
  9. In hard training for 2024 Wheelie Bin Washing Championship ???🤫 I hope it is something so trivial.🤞 Avril
  10. Same here in my part of Barnsley. Forecast was 21c and full sun, but we're actually sitting under thick cloud 15c and feeling more like 10c. Ho hum, maybe tomorrow. Lets face it, they have to get it right sometime............ don't they??😏 Avril
  11. I'll second that kalos👍. We won't have gas in the house after a sad incident many years ago with a family member. You can never be too careful. Avril
  12. Barnsley's original open air market was a large area in the town centre, with separate sections for fish, meat, fruit and veg etc, and in the centre of it all was a large old stone cross surrounded by steps that flower sellers would sit on in the Victorian era and possibly earlier. It was bulldozed down without a thought and thrown away. I know when we were growing up we didn't have what they have today, but I am glad I grew up surrouded by our beautiful historic buildings and not the cold soulless structures of today. Avril
  13. Also a Penny Farthing and a Tommy Treddlehoyle☺️ Avril
  14. You know kalos, Oldfields is still going strong, it's in the new market now. I doubt you'll get a deep pudding bowl for your pie and peas, or a mug for your tea, but a dish and a cup and saucer. ☕ Avril
  15. There still is a lot of spending in Barnsley Harry. We're just more careful now, and don't throw it about like a man with 6 arms😁 Avril
  16. No we aren't John, and that shop is still there, just as upmarket as ever. Avril
  17. I've lived here for 67 years now Harry and feel like a Barnsley lass, so need to apologise. The 'old Barnsley' that I remember in the early 60's was a marvellous place. A wonderful real old fashioned market that people would travel miles to visit just for a day, beautiful old buildings, some are still surviving, but for how much longer I don't know. In the rush to 'modernise' they destroyed the essence of Barnsley, rebuilt modern style boxes, demolished those and rebuilt again. They ripped the heart out of Barnsley when they 'modernised' the old market. If they had put the money into restoring Barnsley instead of destroying it, we would have had a town along the lines of Chester. Barnsley is an ancient town that was first mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086 and has an interesting heritage. It wasn't always what most people think --- 'a mucky old pit town'. Sorry about the soapbox rant, but as you can tell, it's something I feel very passionate about.🤫 Avril
  18. Unfortunately Harry I didn't know about it. I clicked the link, but couldn't listen to it as not signed in etc, etc. Malcolm Bird is Frank's cousin, if it's the same one, so it would have been interesting. By the way Harry, I'm a Southern girl, born in Staines Middx. We moved to Barnsley when I was 9. I do feel like a Yorkshire lass now though, and proud of it. Avril
  19. Not to be taken literally Graham, it will just feel that long😄 Avril
  20. Not only invisible John but, according to my personal experience deaf, illiterate, blind, senile and brainless. 🙄 Avril
  21. Many congratulations Great-grandad and Great-grandma Kalos. Such a lovely feeling. To be a parent is lovely. a grandparent is wonderful, but to be a Great-grandparent is absolutely amazing. Pleased that mother and baby are well. Best wishes to all the family. Avril & Frank
