  1. We were on the Jewel for her first stop in Trujillo and I can tell you that it is not a "pitiful" place. There are shore excursions offered by Norwegian, very nice beaches within walking distance of the port with bars and restaurants, a quaint town square with a small souvenir market, the immediate port area is brand new with bars, shops and a restaurant. Above all....the locals are very nice and very happy to have tourism come to their small town.

I personally found it to be very refreshing to visit a port that has not been so commercialized by the tourism industry.

We were on the 2nd sailing of the Jewel to Trujillo and I agree with your review. It was nice to visit a new port.

  2. We never thought we would make it but due to some unbelieveable circumstances I am cruising on the Gem 11/9 with my DD, DSIN and 2 kids, 18 month and 3.

We are in a 2 bedroom suite. This is from some who has done a balcony once, an ocenview once and lots of insides.

Don't know the Gem, the kids have not sailed in years and the grandkids never.

Please give us the down and out details of what to expect. We are excitedly looking forward to it but know there will be limitations with the kids. I am grandma but will take time for myself to decompress.

Any info would be greatly appreciated and is there a DVD in the 2 bedroom family suite.

Many thanks from all 5 of us!

I've sailed in a 2 bedroom suite last year on Gem. The cabin is amazing, plenty of room and the bathroom is very big. There are 4 TV's and 1 DVD in the living room. You will love it!

  3. Yes, you would *think* they'd have it figured out by then! And the weird part was, I recognized that woman from several of our cruises - she's always there in the pier building, which made me think they were "trying" something new. John wasn't happy when he heard what I told him.

Chocolate night is very nice - I can't say how much I loved that Hazelnut Milk Chocolate bar!

Do you remember which night it was on your cruise? The Hazelnut milk bar sounds yummy!:)

  4. Yes for sure - a change is needed. I like going to the shows, but I'd like more of a variety from cruise to cruise and especially from year to year!

But to be fair, we have seen some really great acts over the years on NCL with world champion magicians, ventriloquists, hypnotists, impressionists, comedians and so on.

I may be in the minority here but I was really glad that the improv group (whose name is escaping me right now) wasn't on board our ship. I really did not enjoy them but they were on our last 4-5 cruises.

Do you mean Second City? I seem them at least 5-6 times and it's always the same. It's supposed to be improv, but many of the lines are the same on each cruise we been on.

  5. The Cobalt Blue Martini. It's not on the menu anymore, but they'll still make it for you at Shaker's. It's vodka, blue curaco, and iniskillin ice wine. The ice wine is what makes it. So yummy. I also enjoy the Rebellious Fish when I don't want martinis.

I have to agree with ya on these 2 drinks. They are my favorite.:)

  6. Thinking about booking my first Princess cruise and have a few questions regarding the cabins.

Mini Suite on Deck 8, aft only 1 left E725

    Balcony, Deck 14, Lido - L202, L206, L215

Balcony, Deck 13, Aloha, A 226, A 219 and few other cabins around these numbers.

I want to make sure I have a fully covered balcony and not familiar with Princess. Can anyone suggest the right cabin for me?

  7. The new Modero may be bigger but I have never seen Breakfast or Lunch in Cagney's that crowded. Why move it. I personally like the old Cagney's location. I could see the change on the Star where they have added more Suites!

They may never have moved it. The Jewel could of always been serving breakfast and lunch in this location. At least they did this back in 2009.
