  1. That settles it then, I'm spending more time on the balcony than in the closet. :p

I think I'm more worried about trying to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night, that's the side I sleep on. Should be interesting when I'm half asleep. lol

That's funny, I also sleep on that side and thought that it mite be a problem, but it wasn't. There is enough space to get by. It was just hard to get into the closet to get clothes out, etc. 2 people is a real problem. I wanted to store my luggage in their, but it was too tight of a fit.

We spent a lot of afternoons on the balcony enjoying the aft view.:)

  2. Enjoyed your pictures and reading your review. I will be on the Jewel in Oct for the third time. As part of the platinum perks, I’ve had the opportunity to experience several NCL behind the scenes tour and enjoyed them all. They seemed to be a little bit different on each ship. I really enjoy the Lavazza coffee machine, best part of the suites. There’s nothing better than waking up in the morning, enjoying the aft view with my cappuccino.:D

  3. Just got back from our cruise on the Jewel - It has been a very long time since I cruised on NCL - When they first started doing free style way back when I decided I didn't like it. So I have stayed away until now. There was 7 of us "Girls" on this cruise and we had such a good time. The food was very good and lots of choices. We ate at Cagney's one night and enjoyed it so much, we almost licked the plates. We also did the Jazz Brunch and it was one of the of the highlights of this cruise. Loved the Casino they had a great choice of machines, even the one I like to play here in Vegas. The guys and gays in the Photo Department were a hoot, had so much fun with them - have to give a little shout out to Darayl - you were the best!!! One of the things that impressed me the most was how the Senior Staff interacted with the passengers - I have never experience that on any other ship. They talked to us all the time and we even got chocolate covered strawberry's from them 3 times. I knew several of them by their first name and I couldn't say that about any officer on any ship in all my past cruises. We had a balcony cabin and found it a bit small but it didn't take away any of our enjoyment of this cruise. So NCL - I will be back!!! :D

ps - almost very senior officer showed up for our Meet and Greet and they had coffee, tea and sweet rolls and cookies for us - a very nice set up

Sounds like you have a great cruise! Do you happen to remember the names of the HD, CD and Capt?

  4. What time does the Gem actually arrive in NY and when are we ablevtindisembark. The itinerary says 10 o'clock

I am wondering when we will be able to board. Has anyone' returned from the 9 day Caribbean cruise

The Gem arrived in NY at 7am. We had a 2 bedroom suite and were able to board by 11:30 and had lunch in Cagney's at noon.

  5. We had a deck 12 center aft-facing cabin and my parents had the handicap room next door.

Whenever there was a DJ and party up in Spice H20 at night, our cabin floors, walls and bed shook from the vibrations and even with the balcony door closed and sealed, we could still hear every song played. Calls to Guest Services fell on deaf ears, their response was that they would call the DJ and ask to lower it. It was never lowered.

Finally on Friday night they offered to move my parents but they needed a handicap cabin and there were none available so they sent up a bottle of wine the next day with an apology.

So, heads up, if you don't plan on going to the parties at night in Spice H20 DON'T book an aft-facing cabin at least from deck 12 on up on the Breakaway.

We also were on deck 12 aft and yes, heard every song they played. There were at least 4 parties during our week at H2O.

  6. Hi Zay,

Just finished reading your review and WOW-- you did such an excellent job!:) It made me feel like I’m back sailing on the Breakaway again and having a great time. We’re so glad we met ya and you are a fun person to cruise with. We really enjoyed all that quality time drinking and eating those chocolates out on our balcony. Hope to go on a future cruise with ya. We will definitely keep in touch and looking forward to seeing ya in Jan.

  7. Just got off the Breakaway a week ago and had the large aft balcony. We loved the views and spent a lot of time out their. My favorite thing to do is have my morning cup of coffee and just relax and watch the wake. We met a lot of people and invited them back for drinks on the balcony. Can't go wrong with this cabin as their is plenty of space.

  8. Just done the B2B on the Breakaway and Gem. BA is a beautiful ship, but prefer the smaller ships, as it was crowded in the main areas. The entertainment was very good. We had an aft large balcony cabin and loved the balcony, but the cabin was a bit small for us. On the Gem we had a 2 bedroom suite and loved all the extra space. So I say go for the Gem.:)

  9. If you've been on the 9 day Caribbean this fall -- COME BACK!!

Tell us about your trip! You KNOW you want to re-live it here with us!;)

    What was GREAT?

    What was not as GREAT?

    Any photos to share??

Sorry - getting antsy here...wanting to read recent reviews.

    Thanks!

Just got back from the Gem and we had a wonderful cruise. Julie is still the CD and she remembered us from a previous cruise. She is really nice and fun. Meet a lot of nice people on our cruise. The weather was not great as we had some rain in every port, but it didn't stop us from having a fun time.

  10. My DW and I have always sailed NCL in a suite, mostly aft penthouses. We never used the butler or concierge service much aside from dinner reservations. We love the free Cagney's breakfast perk (we know it is the Haven restaurant on the Getaway), and the Haven is something we just don't use as we spend most of our time on our own balcony. Love the aft view and the mesmerizing sound of the wake. We want to try the Getaway, but with our oldest in college, we just can't swing the price of a suite on the new ship. Will we be disappointed?

We sailed only with NCL in aft penthouses and love them. Also enjoy the aft view along with the huge balcony on decks 10. We are booked on the Breakaway and originally had a regular balcony cabin and after hearing all the stories how tiny it was, I regretted not getting a penthouse suite. It was really expensive at the time we booked. Our balcony dropped in price and I was able to upgrade at no charge to an aft balcony on deck 12. The pictures I've seen shows it to be a large size. So I'm happy about this and I get my aft view.:)

  11. A couple of weeks before your trip call - 855-625-4283, give them your booking number, and your email address, they will email you a welcome letter and a request form that is tailored to your specific suite category. You can fill it out and email it back or just call them back and answer the questions on the phone and they will then send out a confirmation sheet to your email. In my experience, the first contact with the pre cruise concierge is initiated by you.

There are lots of threads here re: tipping, just use the search bar. that tends to be a very personal thing. Really depends on how much or how little you use the services provided. Depending on the size of the state room and/or how much of their time I require will dictate the tip, I calculate a per day amount and then tip in full at the end of the cruise. Butler tends to get more since they are more front line and taking care of more of your daily needs.

An email was sent to me by the concierge on my last two cruises. I informed them of my wishes and emailed it back. So, I'm assuming the same will happen on my up coming cruises.
