  1. @NE John I am taking a grandson to Alaska at the end of August on RC on one of the 5,000 passenger ships. I am not looking forward to being on a ship that size, but it has the kid friendly fun aspect I need for him. In September we’re cruising on Oceania on a really small ship and I’m looking forward to it, especially comparing the food to QG.
  2. @NE John I saw the same UTube video showing the Yacht Club. I was amazed and glad when he mentioned very quickly that QG on Cunard had superior food.
  3. @devonuk I realize that is an option, I know people won’t say anything, but I wouldn’t want people walking through my dinner so I don’t do it. I am capable of going around.
  4. I think you keep what you have, but you don’t get what is tied to the upgrade. I can’t answer for sure because our upgrade was tied to a rebooking for a reduced rate and we had already lost some of the obc. But please contact Cunard and ask. I’m sure you’ve already read the FAQ that came with the option to bid.
  5. @bitob I think the walk in closet is smaller in the Q4 than the Q5, at least for hanging clothes.
  6. I think an issue of getting around QM2 is remembering you have to go down the short flight of stairs on 2 and walk through the art gallery to get past the Britannia Restaurant, and then up the short flight to 3 to get to the Queen’s Room. To avoid going through King’s Court to the Grills use elevator D, and don’t count on the directional lights on the outside of the elevators on deck 7 to work.
  7. @bitob We did the same bid and got it. We really liked the Q4, 9060, as it had a good location, walk our your door and you’re at the C elevators, though further from the Commodore Club. The extra room is really nice and the deck is great. We really liked having 2 bathrooms. Good luck!
  8. We boarded at 10:30 to QG. Ran up to our muster station and no one was there. Asked about it and were told to do it the next day, so then hustled over to QG grill and talked Osman into feeding us. We tried to do muster the next morning and were told to go to the Purser. He just checked us off as having done it.
  9. @exlondoner I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I was disembarking the morning of July 7.
  10. @NE John Thanks for your supporting post. We’ve discussed before that the real issue is the port authority and that hopefully with MSC entering the game things will change. It was interesting, as we stood waiting for our pre-arranged car, another couple arrived bad mouthing Cunard. The man handling the cars, collecting the booking tickets, etc. really really bad mouthed Cunard and blamed them for everything saying they aren’t paying enough. You would be proud of me because I kept my mouth shut and moved away. It is as you say, things need to change at the port and that is probably not going to happen without politics. (Enjoy a good bottle of wine tonight and I really hope we get to cruise together some day. I think you and my DH would have much to discuss.)
  11. @NE John I appreciate your post. I agree the majority of issues were caused by poor planning on the part of the port. I do wonder how much effort was put into coordination between Cunard and the port. My father used to call it “PPP.” Five hours standing in a line is too long. 1 - People arrived when they shouldn’t have. Not Cunard’s fault. But why were people allowed to enter the building at the wrong time. 2 - There were only 2 screening lines for security. There should have been more. 3 - There were two lines for accessing check in. One for Diamond and Platinum and one for everyone else. No line for Grills passengers. 4 - There were no chairs for people while waiting in line. We pulled in chairs on the last line because people were in such bad shape. A man beside us who could barely stand was sent back to the line to go up the escalator rather than use the elevator. 5 - There was total confusion over the red numbered tags being handed out. Some people received them and some did not. There wasn’t a sound system so announcements could be heard which caused additional confusion and frustration. 6 - Once on board there was reported inadequate food in Kings Court. 7 - I will never forget Nicholas, a port manager, saying, “There are no babies, but there are a lot of cry babies down here.” No one working with the public, especially as a manager, should ever even think, little less say, such words. Totally unprofessional. We will sail with Cunard again, but if I could I would avoid Brooklyn ever again.
  12. We really enjoyed this wine and ordered it several times as it was great with lunch and then a 1st glass at dinner.
  13. I thought of both of you @NE John and @D&N. My hands never touched the wine list. DH was having too much fun. I also wasn’t told how much $$$$.
  14. One of the nice things about the Cunard forum is the way we help each other.
  15. @QuestionEverything thanks for posting this question. I have purchased it on all of our cruises and really know nothing about it. I look forward to the responses.
  16. @rmsEtruria Ah the entrance to Brooklyn…not at 5:00am, more like 3:00 or earlier. Once you are docked you can see her when you go to breakfast on the QG side….don’t make use those port/starboard adjectives if I’m not onboard 🙂
  17. @rmsEtruria Think about what you will consume the most of and if you are going to do a drinks package and the final if…if you will take something onboard with you. you need to remember that you get two bottles, but when one is finished it will be replaced by another of the same or something new. On our TA in December we spent very very little time on our veranda, so we spent a lot of time in the Commodore club drinking cocktails, so we shouldn’t have ordered a bottle of vodka as one of our two bottles. We bought the drinks passage this last cruise and probably shouldn’t have. We spent lots of time on our veranda with a wine glass. Also, are you people to go out after dinner or do you return to the room and kick off your shoes. So much to think about for the next year and a half! Have fun.
  18. I posted the QG drink menu last week somewhere…here it is again
  19. Last week we took four bottles on board in our hand luggage in Brooklyn. No problem.
  20. Grills Lounge on QM2 last week we were offered skewers every night with our cocktail.
