Sorry, I just saw your post but can’t seem to upload the video again. It is an awesome stateroom.

I recently came upon these photos from eight years ago on Westerdam.

On our many HAL sailings, we have only twice chosen our stateroom and that was because we wanted an aft corner suite. Other than that, we book with a verandah guarantee. We’re happy with any verandah stateroom but usually end up several categories above the basic verandah category.
In our opinion, we’re paying less originally, so that gives us more play room when it comes to upsell offers (and our PCC expects our call requesting upsells within the month prior to sailing). We’ve gone from verandah guarantee to an SQ, an SA right across from the Neptune and many higher level verandahs.
We’ve never been disappointed because we don’t guarantee anything less than what we want.

Everyone has their comfort levels and after carrying them on for the last 15 years, we are comfortable packing them now.

I hope there are no Lido Cabanas and I hope they do not ever appear. That was a bad decision on the Eurodam. It makes that already crowded, narrow passage from the forward elevators to the Lido Buffet even more narrow & crowded. I wish they would take out the Lido Cabanas on all the ships, partly because it blocks the lovely view, but mostly because there is just not enough space for them and to use it as a passageway for the passengers.
Considering that the pool deck around the Lido pool is 2 decks, it would seem that it would be so easy to put cabanas on the second level. It seems like it is almost designed with cabanas in mind with the breezy curtains throughout. We love the Lido cabanas but prefer them more on NA because they are on the other side of the Lido.

Just a hunch, but I think that carpeting in the atrium was designed to look like tall buildings...which goes great with the New York theme.
I totally agree on that.

Agreed on the yellow chairs.
To us, everything that looked like it should be plush and comfortable was rather hard...all of those sofas in Billboard or the Gallery Bar, the new blue wing chairs in the Ocean Bar...just to name a few. Maybe they just need more time to be broken in.

I hope I haven’t caused an issue for HAL. [emoji32]

Exactly. The phone can charge on the desk while the CPAP user sleeps, but the CPAP user can't sleep on the desk.
I bring an extension cord, too, and have it taped to the walls/baseboard so I don't trip on it, but it gets messy getting all that tape off on disembarkation morning.
We plug it in before we go to bed and unplug it and put it under the bed when we get up in the morning.

A USB port, but no electrical outlet by the bed?
Another 'What were they thinking?' decision.
I guess they think people want to charge their phones nearby. Who knows.
We both use CPAP, so we have always used an extension cord and plugged at the desk. If it were just me, I’d probably want to plug it in at the bed.

So it sounds like different improvements for different cabins.
Well the suites were completely renovated. Other staterooms basically received some basic upgrades that included the wall TVs. I’m not sure that the carpet was new in our stateroom. We did have a new or newly-upholstered sofa.

*puts night light back in case*

I was wondering if it was an addition or if someone just left it there.

We just came off the NA and did not have a night light. But, we did find 2 USB outlets on the last full day at the desk, behind the booklets. I took them out of the holder to get some of our paperwork out and found the USB outlets hidden there.
Were you in a suite?

I thought you might know the answer to this:
We are just off NA and we LOVED all of the improvements. She had always been our favorite HAL ship and now she is even more gorgeous.
Looking around the ship, all of the changes/improvements/upgrades are pretty obvious (at least to us since we just sailed on her in October). One thing that we noticed, however, is that it seemed like they didn’t touch the Mainstage or the Dining Room (at least in ways they we, the passenger, could see). Are we correct in saying this?
Thank you!!

New lighted directory panels at each elevator:
New and improved stateroom numbers and mailboxes:
A nightlight in the stateroom bathroom:
USB outlets. These were on both sides of the bed only, not at the desk:

A few of the new carpets on NA. The stateroom passageway carpeting has been replaced on all decks below deck 8. Some decks are red and some decks are blue. The elevator lobby carpeting matches the color of the passageway carpeting.
This is the carpeting in the Ocean Bar. I want this in my house. [emoji2]

We are just off of NA yesterday. One evening in the MDR we were speaking with Denise, who is the Assistant Dining Room Manager. We were telling her that we feel like the MDR menu has become very limited over the past few years. Her response to us was “Have you ever tried Indonesian food?”
The next thing we knew, we were set up to be served Indonesian Rysttafel on our next night in the MDR. This was tasty, delicious and AWESOME. Our server told us that he was jealous because that’s what he gets to eat when he goes home. Our Tamarind servers told us that it was actually cooked up there.
Thanks Denise for making us feel special...

It’s a really nice thing. The gold was like engraved. Almost like something you could have framed if you wanted.

Everything, the "much hated" new Crow's Nest, the promenade deck on the newest ships, the partnership with you-know-who.:D
Oh ok. This post is more specifically about the physical changes to Nieuw Amsterdam since her drydock in December.

Reading the HAL boards, you would get the opinion that the changed are widely hated.;p
Are you referring to all of the changes throughout the ship or just the change in the Crow’s Nest?

Just off NA and the Navigator is great. I loved building our daily itinerary.
I don’t know what it’s like on other ships, but access to the HAL website seemed to move very slowly.

Greenhouse Spa day pass
in Holland America Line
Posted
Nope. No real spa benefits to the Spa level staterooms on HAL other than their location near the spa. They claim to offer special discounts on spa treatments, but the Mariner discount is better.
When Eurodam debuted, there was a spiral staircase that led from the Hydropool area up to the spa stateroom level (where the showers are normally located by the Hydropool), but there was still no discount. Not really sure why it even existed. Seemed like maybe it was a concept that never came to fruition.
