Why no shore excursion to Plitvice Lakes NP?
marazul replied to miacincin's topic in Other Mediterranean and Black Sea Ports
Maybe it didn't sell on previous cruises? Maybe you are right about the weather in April? Are some of the park admission hours limited earlier in the year? Do they offer it on summer cruises? -
I have been there on a driving vacation. This is a new port for Seabourn. Which ship? The peninsula (actually an island connected by a causeway) is very scenic and interesting. There are two main towns, Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole which have long been holiday destinations in Italy. No doubt SB will eventually offer other excursions inland. There are many hill villages and great wineries in the area. But the peninsula and its towns are definitely worth a visit.

Best way to get from FCO (ROME) airport to Cruiseport for 2 people

Europe? You need to be more specific. Which country? Which town? For Rome, there are a some of limo companies and shared ride companies posted here. Go to their websites. Standard point-to-point services, like Central Rome to airport or port are posted there. For other destinations, you need to email them and ask. Rates are usually competitive within a given market. For taxi fares, google "[name of town] official taxi fares." You are right. What's reasonable to one can be outrageous to another. This board can only point out where to find the prices and let each one decide what they can afford. -
@ted burke Arrange for a private transport to the airport including a two-hour tour of Athens. Then you will not have to worry about storing them or waste time retrieving them. Get in touch with www.georgestaxi.com

NICE-suggestions for must see's at the end of a tour day
marazul replied to Travel To Be Free's topic in France Ports
The first one. You can plot it on google maps. I don't know how long you are hiring the car service for, but you should be done at Eze by 2:30 at the latest. Decide where you want to allocate your before and after Eze time. -
It is too tight. You might not be allowed to disembark until closer to 8 am. There is no immigration coming off the ship, but even with private transport you are cutting it too fine. It is possible, but I would look for a later flight.

@ghw For a private ride: Stefano's Rome Cabs. https://www.romecabs.com/ Or for a shared ride: https://sharedshuttle.it/ -
@jerseygirl3 Well, it can be done easily. There are frequent high speed trains from Rome that take 1.5 hours. The ferry pier is by Piazza della Concordia, about a 10 minute walk away from the train station. If you work the connections right, you could be in Positano by 10 am. Spend time there and then take the ferry to Amalfi if you wish. Then ferry to Salerno and back by train. You can easily be back in Rome by 7 or 8 pm. It is a long day, but it avoids all the road traffic if going by car. So, why not?

Valletta Malta Itinerary help needed
marazul replied to zinniagirl's topic in Other Mediterranean and Black Sea Ports
@zinniagirl And I agree with @cruisemom42 on the Co-Cathedral and Grandmaster's Palace. One word of warning. The Co-Cathedral is open to tourists between 9 am and 4:15 pm (last admission). It is closed to tourists on Sundays and church holy days. If you are there on one of those days, you can attend services and seat quietly to admire the church, but you will not be allowed to roam inside. https://www.stjohnscocathedral.com/visit/ And book the Hypogeum here: https://heritagemalta.mt/explore/hal-saflieni-hypogeum/ -
NICE-suggestions for must see's at the end of a tour day
marazul replied to Travel To Be Free's topic in France Ports
About the same 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. A lot less than MC to Nice and then to Villefranche. If you skip Nice, they can stop in Cap Ferrat and Beaulieu on the way back Really, ask your driver. Tell them you have to be in Eze by 11:30 and what else you want to see. And ask for their advice on itinerary. They know the most efficient way to accomplish it all. I would even be prepared to let them decide on where to go first at the last moment depending on traffic. Normally, everything works just fine, but you never know if there may be a road closure or some traffic problem. Leave it to the pros. -

It could take close to an hour easily. There can be a lot of traffic getting into MC. Just saying. Nice in the morning. About 15 minutes to get there. -
Good. Here is a picture of the supermarket: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.7355194,7.421202,3a,75y,186.51h,93.45t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sP8WmpmSuxqTatNOBSF7ZxQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en&entry=ttu

Which Beach would you choose on a Greek Island cruise
marazul replied to EliseL's topic in Greece Ports
Mykonos and Crete have the best beaches. The ones in Mykonos are easily accessible by bus. This would be your best bet. The ones in Crete depend on where you port. Rhodes would be my next pick. Santorini has red and black sand beaches, but it is more complicated to get there. -
Here is a map showing the Casino Supermarket right at the port. They always have a great selection of cheese and cold cuts, pastries, fruit, and ready made food, etc. Pick something up and a bottle of wine and you are all set. Picnic somewhere along the port. There are benches right across the road. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Casino+Supermarket/@43.7348133,7.4206379,16.37z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x12cdc28c3ababf93:0xcc3dcded52cf771e!8m2!3d43.7353046!4d7.4210558!16s%2Fg%2F1hhkp3jj9?hl=en&entry=ttu Benches: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.7357291,7.4212052,3a,75y,60.49h,111.1t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNKtScr3rpYpoh5EA-JY1Ig!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en&entry=ttu

NICE-suggestions for must see's at the end of a tour day
marazul replied to Travel To Be Free's topic in France Ports
Anyone can park there. Go with a reputable agency and let them worry about those details. -
MC is one of the most expensive places on earth. There are some inexpensive places here and there and some street food sometimes around the port. Go to a supermarket (Casino, a French supermarket chain, has some small ones around there) and get some takeout.

NICE-suggestions for must see's at the end of a tour day
marazul replied to Travel To Be Free's topic in France Ports
@Travel To Be Free I am not sure about the regulations since we haven't been there in two years. Having said that, we always drive ourselves and park in the garage. Yes, it is a very short walk of about 5 minutes once you are on the top. If they can drop you off in front of the Cathedral, it is about a 3 minute walk to the palace. The parking is quick. The driver can always drop you off by an elevator and you can call him when you are ready to go back down. Did you check with https://www.friend-in-france.com/? -
Valletta Malta Itinerary help needed
marazul replied to zinniagirl's topic in Other Mediterranean and Black Sea Ports
@zinniagirl The Hypogeum only allows 10 people in at a time about 4 or 5 times a day. You must book it now and then plan your day around that. A taxi can take you to the Blue Grotto and Hypogeum. You don't need transport to Valletta, the ship docks there and you just walk around. Save it for after the other two. -
What to do in Nice (Villefranche), France?
marazul replied to livetravelcruise07's topic in France Ports
@Hlitner Dolceacqua is a medieval, almost vertical town. Monet painted the bridge. Apricale is another medieval mountain village without the tarting up of Eze or St Paul. There is a really good restaurant, La Capanna di Baci (the kissing bell), which is very good. In both, there is plenty to enyoy quietly. Not much to do if they mean shops. Just look around. Tourists have not arrived, yet. They are both in the "most beautiful villages" of Italy list. On the way back you can stop at Ventimiglia, the last town in Italy before France, where they used to sell $20 "rolexes" at the market. Or continue on to Menton for a very civilized time. But as an experiment, stop for an espresso at both Ventimiglia and Menton. You will go from coffee heaven to just very good coffee. -

marazul replied to livetravelcruise07's topic in France Ports
@Hlitner Love it, although we may be your elders. (Respect, now!) The rental to Dolceacqua would be from MC. If anyone can manage it, it would be you. I should have known you have been to Menton, but that incursion into Italy is really worth it. We have been hearing about age restrictions here and there, but so far no one has refused to rent us a car. -

There is always renting a car and going to Dolceacqua and Apricale. 😉 -

How about going to Menton instead of Eze? It's the next town on the train from MC. And it is lovely with fabulous restaurants. -
If you stay at Montalcino or Montepulciano there will be plenty of wine tasting within walking distance.
